Arcturus was a simple chap. It didn't take much for him to be happy, the simple pleasures would do nicely. Plentiful food, bright and clear days, lovely surroundings. The last one was certainly checked off. Not because the place was stunning, which it was in its own way, but because of its vastness. Such huge, sprawling open spaces. It spoke of freedom, and new life. That was a beauty in and of itself wasn't it?
Yesterday's encounter still niggled on his mind. Clearly he would need to be more careful with the wolves of this area. He would move onward for now, but it would perhaps be helpful if he had a sign to say 'hey, not an asshole, pls don't hate' to trail along with him. The local pack scents still crossed each other so perhaps he would meet another where he could make a good first impression, rather than being mistaken for a psychopath. That would be nice.
The day was overcast but bright, and Arty decided to head toward the higher ground in order to get a bearing of where he was and where he would go. His sharp eyes had spotted a few rocky outcroppings amongst the pines so his long legs had made the ascent to one of the lower outcrops relatively quickly.
Arty ventured out toward the edge and looked out, marvelling at the huge expanse of land before him to the east and west, with mountains cutting through the landscape heading south. Having been in a single pack for nearly all his life, he'd had no idea how big the world truly was. He reclined to his haunches and wrapped his tail around himself, obscuring some of the scars on his legs, though others were thrown into harsh relief with this light of day. He'd relax here for a short time, enjoy his dark fur soaking up what little heat the day offered before continuing his pilgrimage to nowhere.
