Kajika’s words seemed to calm the man down, though he was still muttering about the rabbit. Tagg would have to burry it. Deep. He couldn’t risk anybody coming across it and eating it.
Then the stranger started to move away, talking about finding the woman he was looking for. Kajika followed, beckoning Tagg to follow him. The veteran hesitated, but did as told. As long as he could get the danger away from his son, it was okay, right? Kajika wouldn’t put them in danger.
The russet man padded beside his friend, keeping his head level with the alpha’s shoulder. He’d best keep to his place and watch wat he said.

The plan that Kajika had hashed out in the moment was working to get the sick man away from the pack. He didn't want incident so going along with the man as he led the way out of the cove and down into the swampy terrain was their best course of action. Tagg was by his side helping him also part of it all in case things went badly he could send the Tawny make back to the cove to tell them what had happened. He wouldn't risk the new father in a fight if the stranger became agitated.
As the swamp came into view the man started talking about where the sickness was. It appeared that if the stranger could be believed the swamp was where he'd contracted the disease. A glance was given to Tagg, they would have to keep their packmates from this place to be safe. Whether the stranger could be believed or not Kajika didn't want to chance it.
It saddened the alpha that they could not help the man find his friend or get better. He didn't like the idea of lying and leaving him out there all alone in his condition but he was a danger to them and the rest of the pack. He had no choice but to leave the man behind to search for his friend. “We should get back,” he said to Tagg not taking his eyes from the stranger. The weight of his decision heavy in his voice. “The rabbit will need to be taken care of.”

Every step that carried him further away from the safety of his home caused Tagg’s paws to tingle. His fur prickled, his heart pulsed in his ears, and his mouth was dry with fear. He was sure the others could smell it, and he was ashamed to say he couldn’t push it down. He was here to help Kajika and he would, but he didn’t have to like it. Illness was something he could not defeat with brawn.
The ill man suddenly stopped, begged them to give his message to this Inali if they ever saw her, and headed on his way. Kajika beckoned to him and it was with relief that the veteran turned back towards the territory. “We have to be careful not to touch it with our mouths.” He warned the alpha. “We should use our paws to roll it away from the cache, then burry it deep. We’ll want to wash off in the lake. We can’t risk catching this.”
He would explain more later if needed, but for now they had a task to do and little time to do it. If Chan found that rabbit…
Well, Tagg would have another wolf on his hitlist.
