Hawthorne Selwyn

She peeled herself away from Plant Boy's side early that morning. Groggily she stumbled out into the world where the sun wasn't breaking through the clouds. She couldn't tell if it was gonna rain or snow but she figured the latter. It was with that in mind she squinted harshly at the sky as if that might fix something.

A whispy huff escaped her as she began to move away from the main den and towards the Shallows. The walk would likely take longer than usual thanks to the tiredness that clung to her. Perhaps she should have dragged Plant Boy with her but a rather common sense of thinking told her he still wanted to sleep. And truthfully, Hawthorne didn't feel like pestering her companion this morning. Surely there would be someone else awake and ready to be met with the roughness of the tired Edge girl.

He was getting used to pack life, slowly but surely. The feral wolves here were nice—or, at least, most of them were. Seven had been lucky in his adventures; most of the wolves he’d encountered had been friendly and full of useful information that had allowed him to find both his uncle and his… second cousin? Once removed? He blinked at the thought, unsure of what the once removed bit meant, but he didn’t care. He’d found his relatives. Now he just wished his siblings would find him, for he had not stopped worrying about them since finding Lachesis. He hoped they were not far behind him… and that Askan wouldn’t mind their presence.

The sound of another stirring caught his attention and pulled him away from his thoughts, his muddy gaze narrowing as he swept the edge of the shallows. They landed on a small girl with similar fur colour to his own, but instead of ugly brown eyes she possessed brilliant tangerine-coloured pools. Not the same as the radiant Selwyn yellow but just as good. Better than dirt coloured eyes. He woofed a cheerful greeting in her direction but did not step toward her, for he did not know how she would react to his presence. He was the new kid, after all.

She was always right. Something she thoroughly enjoyed reminding her usual companion but he wasn't here to snark at. So instead she gave another huff before woofing back to the muddled colored male.

He looked younger than their Edge Lords but older than herself. Probably around Cancer or that new girl's age. She noted his long legs and rather nice brown eyes. Just because he looked unique didn't mean he was free range, though. Hawthorne didn't let wolves off that easily. Who are ya? Her nose twitched as he smelled like those she called family. If he was intruder she would no doubt have sunk her teeth somewhere into his lanky form by now but today was his lucky day whether he knew it or not.

With a boldness to her posture, she took a few steps closer to the yearling. She didn't want to have to holler at him this whole conversation.

His chocolate gaze did not waver from her small frame as she stepped toward him, a question rolling off her tongue and filling the space between them. The question did not surprise him—in fact, he had expected it. He hadn’t really made himself known since Askan had accepted him into the Edge ranks. He’d kept himself busy, searching for prey to bring back to the caches and patrolling the borders. Feral pack things. But he hadn’t really gotten the chance to meet his packmates. This particular one he’d seen slink off with a tawny boy around her age, which he presumed was either her littermate or a close friend. There didn’t seem to be any mothers around, as all the females in the pack were too young to produce offspring.

Seven, he answered with a friendly wag of his tail, his peppered muzzle falling to the side. Who are you? he countered back, expression neutral as his attention remained fixated on the greyscale cub.

A brow raised sharply. He didn't seem threatened by her boldness and he even gave her a name instantly. She wasn't sure if she should give him a harder time or let this slide by as a friendly packmate encounter. Granted the word friendly wasn't typically a word used for the orange-eyed girl.

Hawthorne. The girl kept her introduction curt like usual. Her orange eyes raked over his frame once more. He was about Askan's size which meant she would likely near (if not top) his height if she actually stood properly instead of stooping like a forbodding shadow. Oh well. Seven's a cool name. She said trying to hold back any real interests. Hawthorne had to play it cool with the new guy. The Edge wolf couldn't let him know that she might actually be interested in knowing about him.

You're up early. Hope you're not doin' somethin' you're not supposed to. That sounded like something Askan would say, right? She just needed to act like their superior with this leggy guy.

Hawthorne. He committed the name to memory, his muddy gaze fixated on the speckled girl, his expression neutral. Her comment on his name had taken him by surprise, for he typically didn’t receive positive remarks on the name he’d chosen for himself. It was much better than Septimus, the name his mother had given him. Even the thought of it almost caused a shudder to run down his spine. What had his mother been thinking him naming him that!? At least here no one knew that name—not unless Nicander or Melia came stomping around. Which he hoped they did, for he missed them dearly. There was not a second that went by that he did not worry about them. Thanks, he hummed softly, his muddy gaze soft as he studied her silently.

He almost laughed at her next statement, but instead responded with an upward curve of his mouth. Doing something he wasn’t supposed to be doing? He blinked. Like what? Couldn’t sleep, he answered with a lazy shrug as he kicked at the ground with a forepaw, so I was gonna for a hunt or somethin’. He hadn’t really decided yet, as Hawthorne had interrupted his internal debate by her appearance.
