Catalina whined, a small sound high in her throat that broke the near-suffocating silence that surrounded her. The days were growing longer, the daylight finally winning out over the night, but the bright noon-time sun only accented how utterly quiet it was out here. Sure, there were the occasional chirps of birds, or the croak of a raven or chatter and rustle of some rodent under the snow. But what Cat hadn't expected to miss most when she left behind her patchwork family was was the buzz of activity that always seemed to surround her.
Her father had spoken well of this place, even with his reluctance to step foot there again. Cat had to say she expected a bit more than the underwhelming welcoming to the land of Relic Lore that she was now receiving. Where were all the wolves?
Well, if there wasn't any noise, she'd just have to make some herself, wouldn't she? And maybe, if she were lucky, she'd find out this place wasn't as empty as it seemed. With nothing to lose, Catalina tipped her head back, a high, wavering note leaving her throat as she sang to the sky a searching, open and curious song. As she lowered her head she perked her pointed ears forward, listening eagerly for a response.
