He leaped over the massive log, landing with a barely audible thump. A soft growl rumbled in the pup’s throat as he corned his piece of prey. It was huge! The massive multicolored carapace of the beetle seemed to quiver in fear before the hunter just before he smashed it!
That's how he had seen it when in reality, the cub had been scampering erratically to and fro through the nearby rye stalks when he had stumbled across the beetle. A sharp frighted squeal of terror had briefly emitted from the boy as he came across the new and strange creature. It had turned and scuttled off, with him giggling in pursuit, having tried to leap over a small fallen branch. He had missed of course and misjudged his jump. The impressive landing had been nothing more than him scrambling to right himself, his left hind leg got caught on the bare branch. His impressive killing had been nothing more him squashing it as he poked it curiously with a paw.
A small grimace formed on his muzzle as he quickly rubbed away the remains onto a nearby tuft of browned grass. Sniffing the air, the pup looked around, the area seemed unfamiliar, but he had to still be close to home. Nikolai had explored a bit further then he had originally planned and had managed to get himself lost in the stalks. He had to get back quickly, he didn’t want to worry his parents or his sister. Unaware that the den and his home was just around the metaphorical bend, he opened his mouth, a short and quick howl escaped as the pup took a tentative step forward. “No,” He said quietly to himself, the word itself was a bit of a comfort, having heard @Adelayde and @Laike use it many times when the two siblings had tried to peek out of the den at night or stay out later than they were supposed to.
