All that remains is the faces and the names
Everything was happening too quickly for Marrah to process anything that was going on. First just looking at the weird sky, and then the big woosh coming down towards the ground, the sting of the dirt in her eyes, the cries of her friends. And then suddenly Mama was there and was pushing her back the way that she had come. The pup stumbled in surprise, and gasped for air when the wind got knocked out of her, but then she was back on her paws.
Following her mothers directions blindly as her eyes were still clenched shut to protect them from the flying debris. It seemed to take forever to get back to safety, but when she did all the pups were pushed inside to huddle where they were safe, with the adults blocking the entrance. Marrah thought she would never be able to fall asleep because she was so scared, but she was also exhausted and it didn’t take long before she dropped off into a fitful rest.
