but. Clouse's closed eyes squeezed just a little tighter, toes curling against hard earth as the rest of his words came. Each of them made him feel all the more strongly for the man and it was utterly cruel because it also felt like the beginning of the end. Or had that been the day he'd wandered off? Inevitable, just as he'd known it would be and still he hadn't just left well enough alone.
This wasn't about him, though. This was about Loach discovering what he really wanted his place in life to be, and Clouse didn't want to spoil any part of that.
"Independent or not... they're lucky to have you, in any capacity."
He could see Loach thriving as a leader, could see him excelling in quite a few different occupations, actually. Anything he wanted, really. Clouse supposed he'd just hoped that would be... something different.
"All that matters is you're enjoying things."
