Magg Slayer
Random Event: Sanguine Cove, good luck smiles on the pack, prey are plentiful and the weather has never been better. All welcome! this is @Aven and @Neva's first time allowed outside of the den.

WHEN THERE'S NOTHING LEFT TO BURN

Magg supposed it was getting to be that time, when she started giving her girls just a touch more freedom. At least she didn't have to worry about birds of prey; that was one of many reasons she'd chosen a sheltered rather than open location for her whelping den, after all. There were so many other things that could still go wrong, though. No matter how much she watched, no matter how hidden away she kept them...

It was the worst feeling in the world, being a mother.

She'd spent much time laying just outside of the den, keeping it blocked with her back as she usually did, thinking it over. Until finally, Magg came to a decision.

With a world-weary sigh, she hoisted herself up onto her paws and stepped away from the opening that kept the two most precious things in the world within. Magg stared, second guessed, and then relented. With a chuffing noise especially used to get the twins' attention, she hoped to entice them out into the world.

Aven Slayer

Life was meant to be plural.  At least, that's what Aven had been able to surmise in her short time on this Earth. The cub had never known anything else, and so she had no reason to believe that there was any other way. From her earliest moments of consciousness, to this moment right here, there had always been two. Their mother came and went, adding and subtracting to their number each time she entered or exited the den, but she was the outlier, not the rule.

Thus, when Magg called for the pair, Aven did not wantonly crash over the threshold. Instead, she waited for her sister at the precipice between the world she'd always known and the one she had only ever dreamed about. They would cross the threshold together or not at all, and in the cub's mind, that was final.

Nash Eastfall

It had been a productive morning for once. Nash had made the rare find of a relatively untouched deer carcass just beyond their borders, not far from the lake shore. It had clearly only been dead for a day, maybe two, and the carrion birds had yet to do more than poke at the eyes. After having a bit to eat himself, Nash pulled and twisted until he got one of the back legs free, a sizeable chunk of meat. He would come back for more later; for now, he would bring the meal to his eldest and her brood.

As he approached, he noted Magg standing a little back from the den entrance, looking at it expectantly. He placed the hock down nearby and moved to stand beside her, briefly touching the top of her head with his nose in an affectionate greeting. Something moved just inside the den, but no pups emerged just yet. "Is it that time already?" he asked his daughter, sitting to watch and eagerly await the moment he would get to meet his first grandchildren.

Neva Slayer

Blood Runs Thicker Than Water

The days all blended together, but she was happy. Her mother came and went, the sun rose and fell, other voices sometimes spoke with them, but there was always Aven. There would always be Aven. So when their mother’s form left the entrance and let the sunlight begin to stream in she did not think much of it. Then came something new, a chuff, a call for them. Neva pressed her side against her twin sister for comfort and took a deep inhale.

Right foot forward, she knew that Aven would be taking the same and then they entered the world. Still so small, so vulnerable, but stronger together. Some children might be overwhelmed by such a large change, but to Neva it felt the same. Despite her mother’s rocky relationship with the pack, the child had never wanted for anything, had never known danger, had only security. There was nothing to fear, not here.

But Both Feel The Same When Your Eyes Are Closed

Please note: Aven may appear in any of Neva's threads without prior warning - even if the thread is marked private.

Matos Eastfall-Slayer
After checking on his mother and youngest sister the oldest Eastfall-Slayer turned his attention to his eldest sister and his nieces. He wanted to check on his littermate, see if she needed a moment away while he watched the girls. He arrived on the edge small clearing to see his father and Magg looking to the mouth of the den expectantly. Movement at the edge of the light in the den pulled his attention. Mirror images of one another Aven and Neva stepped into the world. His heart swelled at the sight as he made his way to Nash and Magg. His mind pulling the memory of when he and Magg and Mona made their way into the world. How Magg had barreled out fearlessly into the unknown first with Mona hot on her heels with jealously and him? He had been more cautious only taking a few small steps at first. It was nice to see the twins step out together, and almost in perfect sync.

WHEN THERE'S NOTHING LEFT TO BURN

Magg heard the sounds of approach and her head turned swiftly, brown eyes sharpening a moment as her muscles tensed. Ready to fight at a moment's notice to defend what was hers. To her relief, it was only her father, about the farthest thing in the world from a threat, next to her mother. Especially these days...

Her eyes pinched with anxiety again as they darted around their surroundings. Empathy for her parents' traumatic loss had translated into panic. She wanted to believe her own children untouchable, that she was watchful enough, that it simply would not happen to her but why should that chain break now?

Matos' shadowy form caught her eye, her heart jumping into her throat reactively before recognition hit. She tried to give him a smile, but it was weak and only half-formed.

"I can't believe you chose to do this three times."

The words were out of her mouth before she could think any better of them, and in her current state, Magg really wasn't paying enough attention to properly police herself. Aven and Neva were outside, blinking in the light. Her heart clenched with both great worry and deep affection. Most of all, she adored how close they were to one another.

"What a good job," she cooed, finally broken out of that dread long enough to focus on their experience instead of their physical safety. Her dad and brother were here, after all, looking out for them too.

"How brave you are."
