The sky had been a crisp, vibrant blue against a bold orange canopy for the entirety of the morning. There had been no indications that a storm would come, yet it did. All at once, in what felt like a matter of seconds. That robin's egg expanse had been unending and then the roiling cumulonimbus swept across and stained everything a deep black. The darkness was heavy and suffocating, and then the lightning began. Blinding flashes that assaulted the forest, turning the trees themselves into deadly fireworks.
The wolves are not the only ones caught by surprise. This sudden onslaught, the unpredictable rain of strikes, sends herds stampeding and flocks careening in desperation. The forest will not be the same after a storm like this.
