Snarling and flashing his teeth he moved forward, snapping his jaws once more at the air where the smaller canine's feet had just been to send it running away from both him and his mother. He leapt after it but as soon as the blur of tawny fur waded across the river and disappeared into the forest beyond their home he slowed to haughty trot. His head lifted and his tail slightly lowered. A frown still adorned his masked face and his ears kept pointed forward. <b>"AND DON'T COME BACK!"</b> he roared, his words dissolving into an agitated growl.
Corinna was right, the coyote didn't even stand a chance. In fact, it had been <i>simply</i> scared. It had been caught red-handed. The rumbling in his chest quieted and, once he was satisfied that the intruder hadn't stopped running to linger on the opposite bank, he cast a glance over his shoulder, seeking his mother's reaction, praise, approval, and final words on the matter.</blockquote>
