Ice Aesir
you do not know who is your friend
or who is your enemy
until the   ICE breaks.
Ice just raised a 'brow and gave Brenton a glare when he tried to remedy the situation. "If it wasn't what you meant," he growled, "you lied." And that was all he'd say about it: the stiffness in his back and tail spoke for itself, the closed shutters and shadows across his eyes; he knew quite well that Brenton had lied in the normal definition of the word. In fact, he knew quite well what the black loner had meant: so why the hell hadn't he said so to begin with? It wasn't the first wolf Ice had berated for its careless use of indirect language, and most likely wouldn't be the last. But, to speak more now, would be to test Marsh's patience he feared, and even so he had no desire to be drawn into a stupid mouth-match with a butthurt rogue. With his jaws held locked with tension, he fell deeper into the pit he'd dug for himself. It was not often that he was insecure: for so long, he had been so certain of his place. He had known how to act. How to behave. Where he stood. You'd think it'd be the same, but just bumped up a rank - but it wasn't. Nothing was the same. Nothing was the same and it felt like the ground was crumbling beneath him.

Jessie's swaying tail brushed against his hip, and, tense as he already was, his pale head snapped around to stare at her. Why the hell was she wagging her tail? Was there something to be happy about here? No, he wanted to shout at her, there isn't!, but he kept silent. He swallowed every word that wanted to dance on his tongue, swallowed everything he wanted to say, or do; every snap and every growl. He just re-aligned his head with his spine, dull eyes fixed on Brenton. Get out, he wanted to say, leave us be, but not even his body spoke it. He just stood there, empty; silence in all the ways one can be silent, void of opinion about the situation. Wholly neutral, a spectator in a war, watching, waiting, but seeing no salvation in sight.

The world, it was gray again.

Her mood had been light but it seemed that every second that passing made her mood darker and darker. Last time she had seen Brenton he had common sense and actually knew what he was doing. What the hell had happened to him? When Ice’s head snapped towards her, her head turned, clear irritation in her gaze. No it was no longer irritation, it was rage. He was making her look like a fool! Her tail was now stiff behind her and she was not happy with how this meeting was turning out. Her fangs peeked out from her lips and the anger she had been feeling since Indru had left them all. It was slowly starting to eat at her and she at to promptly turn her muzzle away towards Ice’s side, burying her muzzle into the depths of his fur, making it look like a sign of submission to those who were looking.

In truth it was not that at all, she was hiding her rage, and her throat was vibrating as she growled menacingly into Ice’s coat, trying to down out her attempt to not run away from the scene, or jump at Brenton to tear his throat out. It seemed now a days no peace would come into her mind and her irritation level could rise easily. It was not something she had encountered before, and now she was silently taking comfort in her pack mate. Even if things had been rough between them, they were still family. Brothers and sisters fought, but they also mended their relationships with time.

Marsh Barrew
I'm not sure what's supposed to happen with this but I'm so sorry for stalling it - shall just accept him so we can move on? Might be a good ide to seek out a thread with Cori if Shadow's k with it, unless something else is happening. My bad yo.

The large male fell, and that was all Marsh had required. Instinct told him to ignore whatever had rustled Ice, for the pack would soon find out if this wolf was unsuitable, but for the trust that he had for the large white guardian. Wolves with their overly complicated communication, confusing things and needing to talk about everything - talking did nothing, it served no purpose! But Ice would have had a reason to be agitated, but then, he trusted Jessie's judgement, and wanted to believe that she would only suggest a worthy addition to the pack. So now, rather than be able to keep an eye on Brenton naturally, he would be suspicious for longer. Maybe, with pups about, that was a good thing. Maybe he shouldn't be so accepting at all, and to chase the stranger away was the wisest course. This was never a choice he had wanted to make, under any circumstances. He was not a leader.

But, of course, stood here, representing Swift River, he could hardly let anyone believe that.

Once the male had sunk down, he reached forward to grab the male's muzzle, the last test to pass, and then it was up to Corinna and the rest of the pack whether they wanted another ally. Likely this would please Jessie but displease Ice, but at that point, he didn't care. He just wanted it done with.

OOC: It's fine Siki <3

Marsh stepped forward and grabbed his muzzle, he knew how this played out, submission was key to everything in a pack. Submissions were the thing that separated ranks. He twisted down and shown his belly and exposed his neck to the leader. Wasn't that what you were suppose to do for a leader? He thought so. He glanced at Jessie, he was extremely sorry for anything he might have done to embarrass her. He glanced at Ice next, the one who had called him a liar. He hadn't meant to say something that could be taken as a lie. He wasn't sure how his hunting skills compared to others in Swift River. He'd contemplate this later. All that mattered now was that he was in the presence of three wolves, all Swift River, one was his best friend, possibly close enough to even say his sister.

He had one thought running through his mind right now, it was on a wile loop. I have to get into Jessie's pack, I cannot let her down. He repeated it in his head over and over. He let his eyes close, and then open, averting his gaze from Marsh's. He was Marsh's servant, Swift River's servant. He could not let them down. He would do anything. He was determined to be a servant of Swift River, to guard it, to make sure the wolves never went hungry. He needed to prove himself. He understood why Ice was upset, but he had said it the wrong way.

Ice Aesir
you do not know who is your friend

until the ICE breaks.
With each passing second, the scent of anger grew stronger and stronger, permeating the air and his mind, the gray fog drawn across his world tinted with red; after a few moments his silver eyes slid sideways, landing upon the stiff face of Jessie. It seemed that neither of them was terribly pleased with the situation, but Marsh just stood confident and tall. Stiff, yes, and was that irritation lining his features? Maybe. Maybe not. And if so — who was he irritated at? Him and Jessie, or this Brenton?

Jessie's head turned into the thick ruff of his winter fur, her nose pressed close towards his skin. For a moment he remained motionless, unsure of what she was doing, but then he felt the vibration of her voice, how it nearly tickled his skin. He lowered his head a fraction, something troubled on his face before he turned his head to cradle hers, and hide her from sight. Marsh was busy dominating the other wolf, and though Ice just wanted to fly at them both and run Brenton off, he remained stiffly in place, for Jessie's sake, his pink tongue washing across her black-peppered shoulders in a soothing manner. It seemed that today was not a good day for either of them, and he wondered if suggesting they walk off into the Grove would be to shirk their duties as pack wolves.

But damn, he wanted to.

Jessie Tainn

Her head did not move for several moments. She didn’t want to leave the safety of Ice’s thick pelt, but her mind was screaming at her, telling her how she couldn’t hide from them all. Ice’s tongue running over her shoulders brought some sort of relaxation to her tense muscles. In time her body became less stiff and she pulled away, gently nudging Ice’s muzzle, her emerald eyes then tracking back towards Brenton and Marsh. She was much more pleased to see Brenton submitting to Marsh and her old friend’s muzzle being firmly gripped by their alpha. The deed was done and witnessed, and now Jessie would be free to go back to hunting, or doing something else that didn’t involve being around morons.

She nodded her head to all her pack mates, including Brenton, before turning away and disappearing quickly into the forest. They could follow her…she didn’t care. Jessie could run faster, much faster than all of them. It was one of the advantages of being smaller than other wolves. At first she simply trotted, before her trot turned into a quick sprint. All she needed was to blow off some steam. What better way to do so then with a quick run?
