Nayeli Stormwright
For @Miro !
Also, Nayeli's RE (Nayeli, you bumped your head on a low branch).

Morning light filtered through bare branches, setting the white world aglow. The Stormwright she-wolf had awoken early, rising even as the sun rose into the clear sky. Her feet now sounded a steady rhythm upon the frozen crust of snow, kicking up little clouds of powder into the air behind her. The trunks of trees flashed past as the dark form sped by, letting her paws choose her route for her.

For Nayeli, running was one of life's simple pleasures. She had already explored a good bit of Oak Tree Bend's territory since joining - first following the borders to learn where they lay, then acquainting herself with the wild stretches and hidden spots within and around those borders. This was her home now, for the foreseeable future, and she intended to learn the land well. Like a night wind she slipped through the dawn, racing nothing but her own shadow. This morning she partook in less of a serious patrol and more of a capricious exploration, wondering what small corners of this place she had yet to discover. Some might consider it a waste of energy to run simply for the sake of feeling the wind in your fur; Nayeli considered it a waste to live life without occasionally enjoying oneself once in a while. A patrol didn't have to be drudgery. The winter could bear down upon them with all it's cruelty, but it could only get into one's mind and heart as much as it was allowed to.

She had almost forgotten all of her worldly troubles, becoming totally engrossed in the activity at hand, when a rather fat black-and-white bird burst upwards off of the low snow-covered branch that stretched right across Nayeli's path. As it did so, the snow that had accumulated there was at last shaken loose, and the branch gladly began to snap upwards toward its former natural position. The bough struck the mark on Nayeli's forehead like a target, and she saw stars. Her next few steps were faltering and unsteady as momentum carried her along in her own wake, before she collapsed onto the snow. "Shit. Ouch." she mumbled dragging herself back to her feet and shaking the snow from her pelt. Shaking was perhaps not the best idea - it took an extra moment for the world to settle itself when she stopped, and her stomach rolled in protest. "Ugghh..."

Sorry bout that! I was waiting till Miro was officially in. :]

It was just one of those days. Those rare days when it seemed as if the thoughts in Miro's head was too much for his lanky legs to carry. The young man's limbs felt sore and weak, and oddly he was not in the mood for running. The cold air gently blew, and Miro just wished that he could fly with the wind, allow it to carry him and blow away his thoughts and worries. Everything had felt unreal. The months of solitude had lead up to an sudden acceptance into the pack, and while Miro sat at the bottom of the pack, he still has a place nonetheless and a chance to rise upon those ranks. The young man wasn't greedy for titles anyway. Whilst a title was only a name or ranking given to him, a place in the pack was forever.

"A penny for your thoughts...A penny for my thoughts." Miro murmured under his breath, barely paying attention to his surroundings as he made his way through the Oak Tree Bend territory. Within a day of his arrival, he had only seen two packmates - Sir Triell and Miss Arlette. He didn't expect some sort of welcoming party but pangs of loneliness ached throughout the young man, whom was impatient for some sort of interaction after weeks and weeks of solitude. Maybe this is what Arlette has meant when integration into the pack wouldn't be easy; maybe the pack was already quite close and exclusive to strangers.

A sudden rustling a good few yards away took the lad by surprise, making him jump. "What the..." His eyes wandered ahead to find a black figure doubled over. "Did the magpie do this?" Miro wondered aloud, trying to hide the eagerness in his voice. It was just another pack-mate, no big-deal. But then again, whenever something had to do with his new home, it was a big deal. He stayed a few feet away, in case he could frighten her, but cleared his throat to made his presence known. "You okay...my lady?" Smooth.

It's all good! xD

Perhaps because her senses were dazed, Nayeli did not notice the other wolf's approach until her ever-alert ears caught his surprised voice. What the... did the magpie do this? Cool silver eyes gradually focused to study the younger male as she formulated a response. "I can't really blame the bird, but I'd still eat him for revenge if I got the chance." Food was food. Perhaps the remark was a bit macabre for a first meeting, but the sway of her tail was nonetheless friendly. Whoever this was, his scent announced him as a pack-mate.

She pulled herself to her feet again, happy to note that the world swam a bit less with each moment and movement. "You okay...my lady? The formal note in his tone surprised her a bit - most of the wolves she had met so far in the Bend seemed rather unceremonious - and reminded her a bit of home. She stood with a rather careful posture, although this was more because she was trying to make sure her feet stayed firmly beneath her on the snowy ground than anything else. "I'm fine," this may not be entirely true, but she was hardly going to let some fat bird and a little tree branch get her down. "the name's Nayeli Stormwright," she offered, hoping the other would introduce himself in return. Another part of her hoped he might recognize the family name, that little part of her mind that was always running in the background in situations like this. She knew by now not to get her hopes up, but nonetheless she couldn't stop trying to find out if just maybe they were alive, and someone had encountered them along the way.

Most of this thought process ran in the background of her mind as she gazed at the brown-and-grey male. He was larger than her, but if she wasn't mistaken he was younger as well. She thought over the names of the other pack-members she had heard but had not met yet, wondering if his would match any of them.

sometimes, i never know what direction to take my replies. so, miro keeps telling himself he's nervous because of the pack, but in actuality, the lad thinks nayeli is pretty. c:

The young lad bit back a laugh at the stranger's comment, but instead offered a wide grin. Miro was what some could call smile-happy; smiling and grinning were things he needed to do at least a couple times a day to keep himself sane. He also thought they were the perfect masks - something he needed at this moment. Miro's amber orbs roamed the midnight lady in front of him, and as the lad expected, the pack scent that he himself has been marked with was undeniably there. It was odd for the newcomer to doubt, but he just wanted to be sure.

"Oh...Sorry, m'lady Nayeli. I'm Miro Trevelyan. Just got here." He had just realized that he had spaced out once more, eyes fixated on the territory behind him. Suddenly, his legs were itching for some action, but he ignored the urge. "Haven't I just made the best first impression?" Chuckling deeply, Miro suddenly wished that he didn't have that stupid ol' accent that never went away no matter how hard he tried and never spoke in that old fashioned way that he was raised with. Some days, it was the opposite. Some days, he was proud to sound like so at a young age. Miro had never felt as tongue-twisted as now. For sure, he was no expert conversationalist, but his once so famous silver tongue had failed him. Maybe it was just the excitement of meeting a new pack member, or something about the gender of the certain packmate - not that the lad was biased towards males - and Miro never had that much experience with the ladies. Let's just make do.

Miro had absolutely no idea what to say next, so instead he took his time to examine the lady - but discreetly. She was entirely black, save for a bright, white star on her muzzle. Luckily, she was just about his size (he had met a female who was bigger than him once and never stopped to brag about it), and of the same built. The young lad opened his mouth to speak, but suddenly clamped it close. Oh, just save me from the embarrassment.

Nayeli Stormwright
Aw :3
And it's cool, not every post has to be literary gold. In fact, here's one I wrote while slightly drunk!

Her vision seemed to be settling, but Nayeli could already tell she would have quite the headache in the hours to come. All the same she returned the lad's smile with a brief but earnest one of her own. Like ripples on still water, the echoes of the initial pain would take some moments to fade away. Experimentally, she took a few steps, trying to quell the echoes through will alone. The thought of getting up and running through the forest now as she had moments before made her slightly woozy; all the more reason to rest for a few minutes and get to know her fellow pack mate, she decided.

Coal ears still tilted toward the agouti wolf, Nayeli took a few more steps and sat down beneath a barren oak as if that was what she had been meaning to do all along. "I'm glad to meet you, Miro," she replied, tail sweeping against the snow. She took just got here to mean he was new to the pack - she hadn't really smelled him around much, anyway. "I only arrived here recently myself," she responded, saying nothing of his apology. She wasn't entirely sure what he was apologizing for.

Sitting had been a good idea; the ground felt solid and her head had stopped ringing - almost entirely anyway. She let the invitation to sit down and talk for a moment unspoken, in case Miro had some important task at hand, or was otherwise disinclined to remain here. Nayeli was glad to meet another pack mate though, and another newcomer at that. Although most of the wolves she had meet here had been quite hospitable, she was still new, still learning the ropes, and it was glad to know that she was not entirely alone in that. The day Corinna had died, Nayeli had felt quite apart from the rest of the pack as they grieved someone they had known, loved, and admired - although Nayeli had felt sadness at the pack's loss, she hadn't known the leader well enough to grieve. She wondered how recently Miro had joined, if he sensed the miasma of loss that still hung about the Bend. Being new gave the two of them a bit of common ground, and she hoped he would stick around to talk for a moment.

"Can I ask... what brought you to this pack in particular?" she asked after a moment. It was a question Nayeli was still trying to answer for herself. Was this a temporary respite, a shelter during a storm? Or would she find more in this place? She already felt more entwined with this pack than the few others she had visited during her search for her kin, but when was the right time move on from searching for what had been lost? She wondered if Miro was from a neighboring pack, or like herself had been brought here across a great distance, by some seemingly random series of events. Something about this region seemed to draw wolves to it, from what she had heard. From what this winter had been like, perhaps they had been lured into a trap. As usual, her mood remained calmly optimistic, despite her rather bleak sense of humor, and she left the dark quips unspoken as she waited to see how he would react to her question.
