The itching in her legs could not be contained any further. Narime had to hunt. She had to run as long and hard as she could. The young woman was beginning to get too edgy around the den. It wasn't until she heard the sounds of deer running through their territory that Narime began to feel a need that had been laying dormant for some time. Blood lust was something that all wolves felt in one form or another. For Nari it was what made her such a good hunter, but for a long time now she had not gone hunting. The simple fact was that the silver she wolf had pups to take care of so that lust had festered making her unusually snappy around her pack mates.
However.... The pups were now moved to the main den which meant that more eyes were around to watch them. Nari could get out more often. Stretch her legs some.
She could satisfy that growing need to kill.
Nari knew that she couldn't hunt an adult deer alone. Not unless it was seriously injured or ill. Fawns birthed early Spring would be a good size by now. With any luck the she wolf might find a doe with a mid summer born calf still small enough for her to take by her lonesome. Either that or Nari could pair up with a hungry lone wolf. I could always call for Minka too. the thought flashed through her mind but instead of acting upon it the silver wolf let her paws take her wherever they wanted to go.
Morning passed the she wolf by as she traveled from the southern meadows northward into the cedar trees. The woman concentrated solely on any piece of game scent she could find. She paused only when the snapping of twigs to her left alerted the woman to another creature.
The wind shifted towards her now coming from the direction of the crackling leaf litter. She scented male deer.
Twisting her head around the blue eyed she wolf spotted the stag standing only ten wolf lengths away. Its light colored coat caught her narrowed gaze. Then the creature turned and sprung away deeper into the forest. Narime didn't even bother chasing it. The animal was healthy and strong by the sight and scent of it. She'd have to have a hunting partner or two in order to even think about going after such an animal.
But what was with its color? I've never seen one that light before... Curiosity tugged at her. Growling impatiently at herself the silver woman began trotting along after the stags scent.
Following the deer trail Nari found herself passing through the heart of the forest. Then realization dawned upon her.
"There was a pack here before, but I don't scent anything of them. Where did they go?" Nari stopped glancing around trying to remember where the border had been that she stopped by oh so long ago. The wolf she met there. Its name had been. I remember it was close to Sibo....ahh.. That wolf said that her pack was called Grizzly Hollow. Narime looked around trying to think back on that memory.
"Sibyl.. Was that her name? Where did you and the Hollow wolves go?" the silver girl whispered under her breath. I guess they're gone. Heh.. I would have gotten into trouble for being this far into the territory before while hunting. Chuckling in her mind but also half worried for the kind woman and her pack. Nari wondered for a few more seconds where they had gone before another sound made her turn swiftly around.
A raven stood on a stump simply looking at her as if to say "Hey where's the meal you were supposed to catch?" Its beady eyes glittered intelligently.
The call of a deer sounded somewhere to her left now. Nari turned once more to listen to the noise. A growl rumbled up to her lips as she thought of the deer running from her... The muscles in her jaw tensed aching for the chance to bite into flesh and blood.
Well I can't go after it alone.. Raising her head Nari let out a hunting howl to any and all wolves who might be willing to take part in it. Once finished, Nari would wait sitting on the trail of the white stag who taunted her from the shadows.
