Kite Tainn
Kite glanced to him quick enough to see his face change.

She thought she was in deep before? Color her smitten. It was infectious, and she let out a short heh while grinning herself, albeit at her own expense. Kite could be incredibly awkward, but at the very least there was some benefit in it for Mirren. She did not know he had been sad or lost. Similarly, Kite had felt that way; in Mirren, she had found some sort of northern star, a guiding light. Kite's ears flattened atop her head for an instant before lifting as he spoke again. Oh, oh... he's coming closer! She wanted to step closer, too, but her limbs felt as heavy as her tongue had moments ago. It would seem she could only function at one task before Mirren... she needed work. Having never felt like this before, she could not understand what was the issue with her limbs, why his approach made her feel antsy in a way that wasn't bad.

She itched to get closer herself. Her tail betrayed her excitement as it swayed left and right rapidly before moving in loose arcs. It was when he referred to one of her greetings as cute that her tail moved doubly as quick, without her control (as ever). Cute?! Y'mean weird?! She hums excitedly, shifting anxiously. I, ah, uh, What was the question again...? Limited resources? Came her voice that was suddenly high-pitched as she grinned. Distracted by his approach and his calling her double-greeting that she had thought weird as cute, Kite didn't know up from down.

Her greeting was cute? Hah, he was cute! More than cute! Again her paw seems to sweep against the earth, the unconscious gesture a comfort to her in that strange moment where things foreign to her flew within her very core. You have a nice smile, she blurts, and then blinks quickly... what. Her tongue had moved without her consent, and she licks her chops before turning her head.

Want to wrap this one up and claim points and continue with another?

Contagious. That's what this encounter was.

What had, minutes ago, been a lifeless stroll through a prickly, barren, snow-covered field had turned into something else entirely. He had no idea what, either, but with every second that passed he could only soak up the energetic, carefree energy that radiated from her. It was like being a kid again, only now they were totally gravitating to each other in a way he'd never experienced, let alone expected. She'd really came out of left field, this one. Where he was daring enough─maybe even safe enough─to make a play at flirting, she seemed to do the same. They were strangers! This was crazy, but when he saw the wag of her tail he knew that they were definitely onto something.

"Cute?! Y'mean weird?!" Was it wierd? No, not really. But it was cute. And then came: "Limited resources?" in a tone four octaves above stranger-appropriate-tone. Mirren laughed out loud. Well that made sense, but what didn't make sense was that she managed to be so logical and adorable at the same time four minutes into their random encounter.

There she went again, nervously sweeping the snow with her paw as he came closer. "You have a nice smile." Walking a nonchalant circle around her, basking in the glow of her blurted compliment, he was becoming so excited himself that he almost didn't note that she was much cute close up, and that the shades of her tawny coat were just as eye-catching as they'd been from the hill. "Noooo, what I meant was cute, and if you must know, you're the only cute stranger that has seen my smile in weeks. 'Guess that makes you special." Completing his circle, he comes to stop before her─without invading her personal space, of course. "And for the record, I wouldn't run you off even if the resources were limited, which they are," he added.

I'd love to! We can have this act like a fade post if y'wanna start another now? Or a coupla more posts? I don't mind eitha waaay :)
Kite had always been easygoing. Uptight was never a word that was never applicable to her person. But she felt a tightness within her gut that threatened to explode. No doubt butterflies nestled there, and would bedash her insides. He drew nearer, but never close enough to invade her personal space—not that she would mind, her mind was in too much of a tizzy—and the closer he became, the deeper she drew in her breath. This, at least, was done quietly; upon him were a myriad of scents. He smelled of wood. Wood and winter and the scent of pack was also upon him. His scent was unique, lovely, earthy... it was a unique smell to her, the girl of open lands. While she and hers had migrated to woodland during the winter, the forest was a poor excuse for one with trees sporadically dotting the land. But it was clear he was a wolf of the forest.

If it wasn't enough that he'd call her awkwardness cute, he called her cute, and again Kite looks away, shy. Kite knew little to nothing of her appearance. She had never been curious, either... only in this instant did the way she look matter to her. And she was cute?! And special. He was close now, and in front of her; her eyes slide slowly to his figure. The L'Crowe yearling felt her insides dance around. She near-shook with excitement, electric with an energy that she had never felt before.

Me either, She responds in something of a daze, and to clarify, she drives on, I wouldn't chase y'off either. There is a smell that wafts toward her, the smell of meat on the air. I'd like to see your smile more, she tacks on thoughtfully, her tail again flicking behind her. Kite the innocent felt like this was some sort of dream. She hadn't known that this was one of the few reasons her mother and father had caused her to become an independent for a while. She would have never thought she'd want to run back just to thank them. But she was rooted to the spot, to his presence, and knew that she could never run from that. Even now, Kite understood she wouldn't run from him in a million years. His was the first smile she had seen in months, the first warm voice she had heard in so long... the debt she felt she owed him was one she was more than willing to repay.

She could start now.

The crow that had led her all the way here landed upon the carcass, pecking at it hungrily. She had seen it within her peripheral vision, and her ears twitch as she can hear the sound of beak thudding against its frozen hide... excitedly, she gestures to it. Things are looking up for us! Let's make like a crow and scavenge, Kite quipped, her eyes bright.

Again she looked away, no doubt as a result of his choice of words, and again he searched her face. He wasn't sure what it was that he kept seeing there, but there was something. A glint of innocence in her pretty hazel eyes. A furrow of intelligence between her brows. A current of energy that, though he couldn't see with his eyes, felt like sunshine beaming from her and seeping into his skin. He let his eyes drift to rove over the curve of her lithe frame, to the angle of her shoulder, down to her dainty, creamy legs and her perfectly shaped paws. The dusty golden shades underlying darker, richer marbling in her fur shone beneath the light of the late winter sun, and when the breeze blew past the long fur along her cheeks and ears she looked, well...stunning. He was dumbfounded.

He watched, humbly and with satisfaction, as her eyes slid over him, too.

A sharp exhale of a laugh slipped from his lips, which curled at the corners when she proceeded to inform him that she wouldn't chase him away, either. "I'd like to see your smile more," she'd said. Well, that could certainly be arranged. As a matter of fact, he wouldn't mind smiling more, and something about the bold flutter in his gut left him wondering; wondering about who she was, about where she came from, why she was sooo...lighthearted, and if it was okay to even feel this way after he'd come so close to knowing what a broken heart felt like. A part of the boy was hesitant to want to like this girl, and another part was screaming not to let her go.

Ultimately, he decidedly embraced the latter instinct.

It was then that he took notice of the blackbird that Kite traveled with and its find off in the distance. When she gestured and, adorably, suggested that they make like a crow and scavenge, he just gave in. He'd give her that. He'd give her whatever she wanted, and he'd scavenge all the way to the mountains if it meant he'd be able to soak up more of her sunshine. Kite. "Let's," he affirmed softly.
