RE: The northern lights are particularly brilliant tonight.

Midnight - Partly Cloudy — Current Temperature: 52° F/11° C

The Dark Hellion did not know what had roused him from his near slumber, but he guessed that it had something to do with the northern lights shining brightly in the inky black sky above. Once he had awoken, he could not fall asleep, and so he set out on a wander, and ended up climbing the steep mountainside of the Mountain of Dire. The mountain was unforgiving and hard to climb, but he wanted to get closer to the sky to see the northern lights in their full glory, spreading their radiance all over for all to see. Once everything had fallen into place, he, Anouke Khasekhemre, would be the same. All would know of his power and strength, and all would bow down to him, along with the Dark She-wolf by his side. Together, they would rule over everything, just like it had been destined, and nothing, not even his own sister could stop him. Not that she would though…

Reaching the top of the mountain after a hard arduous climb, Anouke looked up at the night sky, dark head tilted back, and his bright amber eyes staring at the northern lights. Even though he was an unforgiving wolf and seemed cruel and unjust to those that did not understand who and what he was, he did appreciate beauty in everything, from wolves, to trees, and to the sky. It was one of the things that kept him true to his path, and not stray away into the depths of the jungle, forever lost and not knowing where to go. Wolves like that did not function to their full capacity, and some may even call them crazy, but it was because they had been led astray by the forces. That would never happen to him, he had told himself over and over again it wouldn’t, and with his knowledge of beauty and a powerful ally beside him, he knew it never would.

That was why he was staring up at the sky and standing on the top of the Mountain of Dire at midnight, all alone with no company.

Klio climbed the opposite side of the mountain. She didn't know why. It was that simple. Rocks cut and grazed her paws. Weeds watched her agonizingly slow progress and turned their mocking faces toward her. How nice it would be, to be a weed, and go where you pleased when you pleased...

She already was like that, in a way. Her only limits were pack boundaries. The black girl didn't feel like grappling with a pack wolf, especially not a pack leader. Although she was quite large, she was, in fact, only one year old, and not well developed enough for intense fighting and the like. If it came to a fight, all she had going for her was her strength. And that probably wasn't enough to win a fight, if it came to that.

The stars seemed dark tonight. But that was understandable. The Aurora Borealis shone brilliantly tonight, and perhaps that was what had called her to ascend this gloomy mountain... But it didn't feel that way. Some said wolves had a sixth sense enabling them to "feel" certain things, like the way humans get gut feelings (but the sixth sense is by far more dependable). Klio believed in this. She also believed that it was not a something, but a someone who had beckoned her to this mountaintop at night.

Cresting the mountain, Klio promptly tumbled backward, head over heels, back down the mountain in the direction she'd come from with a yelp of surprise. Luckily, she didn't go too far; all four paws hit the gravel at once, stopping her descent. However, in her short descent, she had gotten scraped up against several rocks, leaving almost invisible lines of blood scattered across her black fur. A large dark wolf, very much like her, had stood at the top, staring at the indelible Aurora Borealis. She had, in a dream, seen a vision of that image, of the large black wolf watching a peculiarly bright Aurora Borealis. It was unsettling...Shaking off her discomfort and dirt, she scampered back up to the top, ready to apologize. But at the peak, she found herself unable to speak...

Luckily her tongue-tied feeling didn't last too long, for she quickly recovered herself. "Hello?" she called tentatively, doing her best not to startle the dark man. Keeping her tail relaxed, she took a few steps forward and tipped her ears halfway to flat so that she seemed to be questioning him with her body language as to whether or not she should submit to him. She didn't trust him yet, so she kept her distance in case he attacked and she was forced to flee the mountain.
