"It's okay." Laurel accepted his apology with a small smile. "Sometimes it's right to get angry-" She thought of her parents coming to the rescue, righteous fury in their eyes. "You just have to know when." Hearing her own words reminded Laurel of Sage, who was always quoting their parents or coming up with her own wise words to apply to various circumstances. And, as memories often do, thinking of her sister lead Laurel to think of the rest of her family. With a nostalgic sigh- exhausted from their day's journey- Laurel rested her head on Jaime's already taking residence on her legs.

His fur was nice, and she snuggled into his mane as the autumn night air got colder. "How come your parents never taught-" She bit her tongue, remembering at the last minute how such questions often drudged up unwanted sadness. Instead, Laurel offered something else- "I could teach you how to swim, if you'd like. It's easy, once you get the hang of it. Though it'd be best to continue straight on-" She stifled a yawn, her eyes squinted and her snout scrunched up. "I don't want to worry about you if we have to cross a river or something. I've never been this far south."

Not wanting to admit she was the teeny tiniest bit sleepy, Laurel looked to the woods growing dark as the sky deepened in color. The stars twinkled crisply, framed by ranging hues of fall leaves. She sniffed in appreciation, before burying deeper into Jaime.

Her words soothed him as she accepted his apology and gave him some simple advice. Tobius needed to control his anger and only show it when it's the right time. She then lied her head upon his and then began to snuggle into his thick neck. A smiled formed upon his lips as he rumbled in contentment. He realized how comfortable he would be if he could sit here forever like this with her, snugging in each other's warmth. He was content and he believed she was too, or so he hoped. She then spoke again, questioning why his parents didn't teach him, what he assumed to be how to swim as she seemed to not want him to feel uncomfortable so she stopped mid-sentence.

He let her finish her slight rambling, something he was getting used to. It actually amused him and put a smile on his face. It was cute. She then offered to teach him how to swim and he was humbled. He never would have thought that when he told someone the truth, they'd want to help. He wasn't used to that. Tobius was always left on his own to figure things out. He then noticed she tied to hide a yawn, but he could feel her jaw move on his neck.

"I'd like that," he said with a smile before turning onto his side, his blue eyes gazing up at her. "Now, don't try to hide it, missy," he joked before slowly getting to his feet, pausing to stretch out into a bow. Looking back to Laurel, "We should probably get to sleep. We have a long journey ahead of us," he said before stepping over to the side of the abandoned den. "You can have the den. I'll sleep out here."

She was already half asleep when he rolled out from under her. "Waaaaarm..." was her protest. Nevertheless, Laurel smiled sheepishly at the fact that Jaime had caught on to her rapidly oncoming tired state. Her mind swam haphazardly in and out with all the thoughts and memories freshly gathered for the day. Trekking through the underwater village, gentlemanly catfish heads, Sage with her beaver's wisdom teeth, toes and noses, leaves and waterfalls of tumbling stars. Had Jaime not said something about the den he found, she probably would have dropped off right there.

The den. For sleeping

Sleeping. Sleeping outside? Wait. What?

Forcing her heavy eyelids open as far as she could, Laurel tried to stare down her companion to the best of her ability. A key word being tried. "Oh no." she mumbled as she sleepily got on her feet. She began to push against Jaime, trying to force him inside the den. "You be not...catching...hypothermiatrics..." Her head made contact with the barrel of his chest, as her speech got sleepier, the catfish in her stomach having a huge effect. "Might....obly...den for...while-" her garbled rant was interrupted by a yawn- "-so... share." Laurel leaned forward with emphasis on the word, using gravity to push against him, determined not to move otherwise.

short post is short and crappy /:

He expected that she would happily take her den and be more comfortable with him outside. He wanted to give her her space. He was first a gentlemen and won't ever try to invade a woman's space no matter what he thought or felt. Tobius would have loved to share the den with Laurel, he was comfortable with her and their shared warmth could get them through the increasingly chilly nights. But, he wasn't going to intrude on her. However, she surprised him as she started to push against him in her sleepy state demanding him to share the den with her.

Releasing a laugh, he looked down at her before slowly backing up to act like she was actually moving him. Her words were slurred with exhaustion and it was quite amusing for him to see her like this. Even in her tiredness she rambled and made no sense. "Alright, alright. Whatever you say, sleepyhead." He said, his voice laced with the sound of laughter. He then turned to be at her side and guided her into the abandoned den.

Ooc: shorter post is even shorter.;)

Laurel let herself by guided after she heard Jaime's amused surrender. Eyes closed by now, she walked to what her tired brain assumed was the middle of the den space and plopped down. Curling up, her head wavered for a little, ears trying to figure out where her friend was. When he settled down, she deftly reburied herself in his fluff, enjoying the warmth and company. "Sharing...not...be nonsense..." she garbled before allowing herself to sleep.

She dreamed a lot of dreams. Dreams that melded together, shaping and competing with one another in dark rainbows and bright caverns. The one dream that stood out was the starry waterfall, where her family played, free of scars and old age and torment. And in the corner, Jaime happily splashed with her giggling sisters. Silly sisters. Fluffy Jaime is all mine.

She allowed him to guide her towards the den, her eyes closed in exhaustion. He felt a little guilty by how tired she was. Part of it was because of his fall from the cliff where she helped save him from drowning. He owed her saving his life and now he vowed to protect her and be her guardian from now on. Where she went, he went until she bid him away. But for now, she was still content in his company and wanted him to be next to her while she slept. And he will happily oblige to her unruly demands.

As he curled up next to her, burying his face into her dark fur. He waited for her to fall asleep before he let himself do the same. He soon fell asleep to her gentle breathing and thumping heartbeat against his chest. He never would have thought he'd be sharing a den with her when he first met her. He had only thought they would have went their seperate ways, but oh was he wrong. His dreams soon came and they weren't his usual nightmares of beatings from his father. No, they were filled with Laurel. His dark companion that lived to better him and care for him with her love and compassion. She was beginning to be his whole world and he had no say in the matter.
