Even as he asked his question it would seem that Camio too acknowledged that the priority here was to get off of the mountain and back home. He waited for his injured family member to join him; though it was nearly impossible to walk side-by-side on such narrow footing. Instead Naberius took the lead; ears flicking around frantically at every brush of air through the gorge and each echoing tumble of loose rock. If that cat came back for his brother; he had to know; he couldn't loose the man again; not now. Every few moments his crystalline eyes cast themselves back over his shoulder just to be that much more certain that Camio was safe; that he was still there, still walking. From what the eldest brother knew of medicine the tawny man could flop over at any moment for any number of reasons with how serious his wounds were. He would not sleep with Isde tonight. Finally the other's voice graced his ears. Unable to concentrate on both keeping his feet straight and understanding the words, Naberius' pace slowed to a crawl as he fought to reconcile the two competing subjects. There was a.. a wife! But the revelations did not stop there. A daughter! A daughter! He was an uncle! His brother had not only a home, but was a leader – or so he thought in shock until Camio was kind enough to clear that up. It flummoxed him to think that a pack had been so very generous; more generous than even their own could have managed. Or perhaps, was it foolish? They must have had a bounty that year if subordinates had been allowed to breed. Now he had to meet these wolves. His mind was still reeling over the idea that his murderer of a brother had found a mate; committed himself; and grown into... this! Was he repaying his sin against their sibling by raising a child of his own, and well? It was a bittersweet idea, and he was fumbling with it when Camio asked a most personal and awkward question. Instantly his face spread into a sheepish grin complete with nervous chuckles. Love wasn't really his... specialty. And there were points in his past where there had been women... as there always had been, but they were sore and detached. He had never gone so far as to commit to anyone, ever, and so of course there had been no children of his own. The woman in the red hills had been beautiful, and he had enjoyed her company, but they had still parted ways as loners do; as Naberius Zamora, often did. Women did not fancy a skittish, fickle husband; and he would not risk creating pups that would require his devoted attention – require him to be tied down to the woman and the place. How he hated stagnation. “Nooo,” he droned out, still grinning. Why not tell him of Sinijali, though? “The last girl I met was lovely; but we both had places to go.” Look down, look down... His eyes returned to his footing; now trying mightily to re-focus on their track and forget the girl as his smile faded. He had quite liked her company; but oh well. Places to go... |
