The twins were MIA and as much fun as Nalda was, Arion couldn’t harass her all the time to keep him company. He was getting a little irritated with everyone leaving so abruptly but he refused to allow it to fester inside of him. Arion was a positive little smudge and would not allow the actions of others to bring him down.

Things had started to look up, with the return of his mother. (Who he had been low-key avoiding since her return home.) Maybe the wonder twins just wanted to go on a little adventure before they were about join the adult ranks — a final hoo-rah. Or, maybe they had pursued a different pack… but without telling him? How rude, he thought to himself, his liquorice lips folding at the thought. No — there was no point in being bitter. They did not have to include him in everything, just as he did not always include them. It was still troubling, that they had left without a word and it worried him.

Today he was on a mission to put as much distance between himself and the Pines as possible. As soon as the sun rose from the horizon line the smudge slunk through the trees, his slender body maneuvering expertly over the terrain as he neared the base of the mountain. Arion wasn’t sure he was prepared to climb the mountain just yet, especially while there was still now present. He did not want to be caught in a sudden rush of snow or lose his way as he was still unfamiliar with the lands on the other side. Instead, the smudge would have to settle for the foothill dividing the mountain and the red forest. He remained alert, cautious, as he did not want to encounter sour company. He walked along the edge of the stream as he observed the mountain to his right, his pale eyes narrowed. He longed for the day that he could climb its snowy peaks — perhaps once spring fully settled in the boy would make the trip, but until then R would remain on this side of the mountain.
