Frey Apsara
@Kisla :)

The pale hairs of her underbelly tickled the cold earth beneath her. She held her elbows tight to her sides and her haunches as low as she could manage to get them without completely just laying down - which was a tempting thought, actually, given how tired she was. But Frey was on the hunt. This was her only shot, and she wouldn't give up. She had to at least try.

Her gaze narrowed precisely upon her target, pupils dilating while her breath quickened with anticipation. She waited until her heartbeat was all that she could hear and her need to hunt was all that she knew. With all her strength she shot forward, weary paws hitting the hard earth mercilessly as she sprinted toward the prairie dog with her jaws open and hungry. All she needed was three strides to get a tooth on him and taste the sweet blood of victory.

One. Her body stretched as far as it could, forcing her dull claws into the ground to propel herself forward again. Two. The prairie dog met her bloodthirsty stare with its little black eyes, so full of horror she wasn't sure it could even see. It turned away from her and prepared to flee. Three. One more push of her body and she swallowed the dust of its attempt to escape, reaching forward with her neck. Her tongue swiped the coarse fur of its plump little body, a bite temptation to which she fell. Her jaws came down upon each other, ferociously, expecting the heat of her prey to fill the hollows of her cheeks.

But nothing came. Only a second too late, her teeth found wantless air. Unblinking eyes saw the prairie dog issue a screech of warning to all in its midst and disappear into a hole in the ground she couldn't have seen from where she had stalked it. Frey threw her body forward as she came to a halt, planting her muzzle firmly in the entrance where it had vanished with a thunderous snarl. She bit at the emptiness and found nothing to hold, just a few prairie dog hairs on her nose and tongue. Frey withdrew her muzzle and heaved a defeated snort, launching the stray fur from her muzzle to the ground.

The adrenaline drained from her body, replaced by a flood of exhaustion that dragged her haunches toward the earth in a haphazard sit. What a waste.
