Kobe shook out his fur and glanced up at the sky.
Will it ever stop snowing? He wondered. Picking his way through the snow on an empty belly, he sniffed at the ground absently, half hoping to catch a trace of something edible that wasn’t hiding already. He sneezed and looked up with tired eyes. The life of a loner was getting to him. Cold nights and hunger had become less of an occasion and more of a norm. He wish winter would end.
It had never bothered him that he was alone. He felt like he’d always had. As a pup he’d preferred to watch his siblings scuffle at a distance, safely out of the fray. Having time to himself had been bliss but perhaps because he knew he could always rely on his family to be there when he needed them. They’d never forsaken him. He’d never known hunger until the allure of the outside world pushed him to leave. Now he was truly alone and the more time that passed the less he found he liked it.
Even so he knew he wasn’t quite ready to join a pack again. Logic pointed at it as he best option but he was stubborn. He still liked his freedom more than hunger…for now.
