The pup was quick to come up with a name for Pip. When she heard it, the mute tilted her head curiously, a slow smile spreading. Violet? That was...a flower, right? Pip knew far more about fish than she did about plants - especially those in forests - but she was fairly certain it was a flower. It was such a pretty name! Nothing would ever beat Signy in her eyes, but honestly, she liked it more than her given name. Instead of being the sound she would make as a pup, it had a sweet connotation. Flowers were nice, so it was nice to know Oksana could associate them with her!
Pip - now dubbed Violet - gave a quick nod of approval. Violet was just fine by her!
During the lesson, the mute was equally pleased to find her pupil was a rarity among pups. She had the patience to sit still and use her senses to pay attention! Aegir was also so go-go-go that this technique would never be suitable for him. He was far better at techniques that allowed him to use quick and decisive action as a dragon's blood demanded.
While her thoughts had been filled with her son, the sea wolf very nearly missed her chance! The fish had swam close to swallow a bubble of air from the surface and had already half-turned by the time Pip reached out to grab it. Sharp teeth dug into the tender meat of its muscular sides and she scrambled to drag the thrashing catch from the water. It was bigger than she thought! Quickly, Pip cast her eyes towards the pup. If she didn't want her to lose it, now was the time to grab on to a part of it and help her bring it farther ashore before she lost it!
