Tagg had not spent enough time with his son lately, and that needed to change. There was no reason he couldn’t be both a father and a guardian, and it was something he was determined to see corrected. His son wasn’t getting any younger, and he didn’t want to miss anything else.
So after he ran a quick check around the border, the veteran made his way back to the den. He greeted his wife and suggested she do something fun while he played with Chan. He knew she didn’t get the opportunity to do much now that their child was on his feet and needed to be reined in.
“Want to come to the lake?” Tagg asked his son, knowing he likely hadn’t spent much time on the shore. The water was cold, but they were inside that short period of time where they could swim safely. He needed to teach Chan how to do so, in case the pup ever found himself in the water on his own.
He headed out, slowing his steps to walk with the small boy rather than risk leaving him behind. He kept his eye on his son but his ears pricked and listening for any sort of danger. Yes, they were inside the territory, but many animals came to the lake to drink and he never knew what he might find.
