“This Scork. He's good, like mud.” She hadn’t realized he’d been playing in the water, too. If she had, she would have started a game! But that was okay. They could have a game when they got to the water-rock-mud place. Glancing back up at Piety, Arcus fell into line at the woman’s side, seemingly content to behave as long as the prospect of adventure and fun were still afoot. “Who you?”

Only when her name was screamed did it finally occur to Arcus that she’d totally forgotten her manners. Not that the pretty lady seemed to mind, which she was grateful for. “‘m Arcus!” she chirped merrily, as if it wasn’t totally apparent from the way Scorpius was hollering. And as excellent as the offer of mud and water and rocks sounded, the pup did hesitate, waiting just long enough for the boy to join her. He was pretty Okay. More fun than adults, usually.

Perfect timing? The boy wondered how this could be. She made it sound like she had been waiting for them for some time now, and the only way that would be possible was if Arcus had arranged this somehow. Like she had been planning all along to go on a trip with this lady and not even tell him? He was crushed. He thought they were buddies. Even Aquaria would have deserved some notice even if it would have been—ideally, in his words, "smell ya later" or something like that. At least the woman seemed to acknowledge that Scorpius would, of course be coming along. Scorpius liked her for this because she catered to his fragile ego.
Scorpius flourished his tail upon introduction. Being good like mud sounded pretty okay, so the boy decided that he would forgive Arcus eventually for leaving him out of this adventure. When, he had not decided, although it was sounding now like it would have to be sooner rather than later since Arcus declared her innocence when she asked what the nice lady's name was. How could it be perfect timing, then?
"And where" he added.

"Scork and Arcus." She said with a small smile and wave of her tail. Unique names but they sounded enough alike. Perhaps they were siblings? That would make finding parents leagues easier.
The question was (fairly) returned to her. "I'm Pi and we're going to the tarn. Lots of mud and water for the both of you. Some new friends too perhaps." Although her own son might not take well to two strangers she was pretty sure Jenny would greet them with screams and splashing.
"Now we 'ought to get going before someone tries to take all the mud." Perhaps that would lure them into finally picking up the pace some. The coyotes were being pushed past their patience with the trios presence.

"Okay Pi!"
Arcus was not as suspicious as Scork -- not born that way, and not yet learned. As far as she was concerned, Pretty Miss Pi had said all the right things. She gave her name, where they were going...and she was going to make sure someone else didn't take all the mud! Heck! Her Mama usually tried to keep her out of the mud. Whomever lived with Pi were definitely lucky wolves.
Glancing over her shoulder at Scork, she gave a little head toss as if to say 'well, come on then!' before turning and trotting happily after the beautiful wait wolf. This sounded like a great idea.
