As soon as he finished up with the Ridge the shadow went further west—to the lagoon where his older sister resided. He had always been closest with Morganna and did not want to leave without saying goodbye. He had not seen her since Revon’s disappearance as the birth of his sons and arrival of coyotes had kept him tied to the mountain. But she still deserved a farewell—even if it was just a howl from the edge of her territory. He did not have time to linger and explain why the Argyris Archer family was leaving. Morganna would understand the most. She had done the same, without his knowledge, when she had parted ways with the monadnock. Maybe they would head south to Torbine or maybe they would conquer another mountain elsewhere. The sky was the limit for the family.
It was bittersweet for the Archer as he sprinted through familiar territory. But this wasn’t a forever goodbye. More of a see you later. Greer could never quench his itchy paws no matter how hard he tried and his mate, Kyna, was destined for so much more than sitting atop a mountain throne. The power couple had more kingdoms to rule—they just needed to go out and find them.
The long-legged shadow skidded to a halt as he reached the edge of his sister’s territory. A grim frown creased his dark features as he hesitated, his ears twitching idly above his head. It had to be done, and it had to be done this way. He inhaled deeply before tossing his head to the sky, announcing that he and the wolves of Aurora would be leaving the mountain. For how long? He did not know; that was the most thrilling part. It had been too long since Greer had been on an adventure and to go with his family? He’d be lying if he said he wasn’t excited. There was still sadness, as he and Kyna had worked so hard to create their own pack, but there was still excitement. The mountain would always be there for them if they made the choice to return. Even if another pack had staked their claim on the rock Kyna and Greer would take it back. It was their slice of heaven no matter where their paws took them.
He waited a few moments after he finished his goodbye before retreating into the woods. Digesting his own farewell. It did not take long for his slender, shadowy figure to disappear among the trees; a distant memory.
Greer exit/good-bye.
