Thoughts Speech For @Nia only. Tiny bit of PP, just in the pre-post story.

Alvar stepped forward, his paws pressing down on the soft spring grass underneath as he walked, the tweeting of birds and barks of small rodents audible to him as he passed by tree after tree, bush after bush. It had been two weeks since he had taken to staying with Nia, and he couldn't say that he disliked it at all really. Though, it was clear to him that she wasn't very emotionally involved, nor was she used to wolves who were. He chuckled a little bit as he looked around, searching for the winter dame and her bright eyes. He'd grown quite fond of her lately, and hoped that she felt the same way.

He stopped at the base of a tree, and sniffed the air around him, catching the scents of herbs, flowers, soil, rodent droppings and not a trace of Nia. The agreement was that they would meet here, to mark the borders together, but it seemed that she was a bit late, or he was. He scowled a bit and sat down, his tail curling around his legs. He breathed in and let out a nice short howl. "Nia!" He called, knowing that she couldn't be too far off. He hoped that she hadn't run off again, he didn't want to have to find her a second time.

Nia Hervok
It wasn't unlike Nia to get an early start on the chores. She'd awoken before the first ray of light, taking off in the opposite direction of their agreed meet up area. She figured she would start over here and work her way back, that way more ground had been covered and less would need finished. They still needed to collect pelts for the den so the earlier the boarders were marked the better off everything would be. She rubbed harshly against trees, brambles, and patches of dirt. Expressing her glands amongst the trail. Occasionally she would hike her leg for a more potent marker. With all the work she was doing she'd lost track, the howl catching the woman off guard. She froze, looking up with shock as the sun now beat down through the thickets.

The woman didn't take long to sprint down the path they were making into a boarder, zig zagging through the thorny vegetation. Her companion was quickly in sight and she let out a series of barks. Coming to a sliding stop the woman greeted him with a curt, "Morning." She shook her pelt free of debris and immediately launched into conversation, "We have much to do. The boarders need to be well marked, but for the sake of protection we need to make them confusing somehow. Work on making our presence known but the exact location of our den unknown." She laid down the to do list with an authoritative brash tone, not taking into consideration how blunt she could be. Regardless of her posture, tone of voice, and grim expression Nia's tail swayed back and forth.

Thoughts Speech

A logical plan, but possibly difficult to do properly without prior planning. The tawny man spoke... "And a good morning to you too, snowy." He poked at her in fun, smiling and sticking his tongue out, before he began to think on the process. Looking towards the den, he scanned the nearby foliage and rocks that poked out of the ground, trying to figure out how they could possibly confuse other wolf's noses.

It hit him all at once, gasping and smiling as he was about to turn away and start marking alongside her. "Nia, I have it!" He called to her, in as gentle a yelp as he could muster with the excitement hitting him that he felt with a new idea. "We should mark the borders in spirals, one north, south, east and west, each with a center where it is strongest, then trailing off towards the next one. That way, when a wolf picks up the smell, they will be drawn towards false den locations. Then we don't need to worry about the strong smell around our den." He smiled as he spoke, his tail wagging in a strong rhythm across the ground as he sat to listen to what she thought.

Nia Hervok
"Snowy? The woman asked unamused through gritted teeth. What sorta nickname was that? "Earthy" She retored back looking a tad too proud of herself with the comeback. Despite the Hervok's gruffness her tail continued to steadily sway side to side at her equal. Nia flinched slightly at his amusement, closing her eyes and smashing her ears down in response to his shrill tones. Her flattened ears lifted back up hastily to hear his idea, lids snapping open once more.

The she wolf couldn't help the broad grin that overtook her face, "That's...that's impressive Alvar." Her green jewels beamed at him with a sense of pride. She gently gave him an affectionate headbutt, running her large body down his side in a platonic show of affection. She wasn't normally so sweet, but the male was growing on her soft side. "It's perfect." While speaking she moved forward as if to act on his words, uncaring to the fact he had sat down to converse. "We should do these throughout the thickets, over a widespread area. That way it's guile ." Nia's facial expression was that of deep concentrated thought. More to herself than to him she added, "The wildflowers also aid in covering our smell...we could bring some of the stronger smelling plants near the den and burry them in hopes they'll regrow there."

Thoughts Speech

The gentle tone of her voice as she tried to retort to him was just too much, and he couldn't help but giggle a bit as she called him "Earthy". The woman seemed to be warming up to him, at least, that's what he hoped was happening.

When she seemed to be impressed with his idea, he felt his front paws give a tiny little bounce as he gave himself a silent congrats. The woman gently let her head glide down his side, a gesture that he hadn't seen her perform before. He considered cracking a joke about it, but he figured that he should save it in case she did the same thing again later. He got up and walked behind her as she started forward to begin the plan. He started picking around for places to mark where it would catch the air and be broadcasted with a reasonable amount of strength and range.

She gave a few more pointers and modifications to the plan, and Alvar simply nodded to most of it. But when she suggested the idea of bringing some of the plants from the Glade to their den, he grinned a bit and started letting his mind go to some of the plants that might be up to the task.

"What about some of that Wild Ginger I've seen in the thickets, or maybe we could find some Hawthorn? There's also a purple flower I've seen growing around here, but can't identify." He took a glance around him but didn't see it anywhere, so he resigned himself to find it later and see if it would work.

He turned back to the leafy-eyed woman and waited to see what she thought, as he lifted a leg to mark a tree...
