Sage stepped softly on the ground, her paws pressing into the snow so delicately that they almost left no indentation. Her nose swept across inches above the cold forest floor. Blonde ears pressed forward, her expressive eyes full of curiosity. Her tale hung limp between her gangly yearling legs. She walked slowly as if trying not to miss a single thing in her new home. She wanted to learn the layout, the various scents of her packmates, what flowers grew in their territory and where, and whatever else the Backwater had to offer her.
In stark contrast to her subtle, calm, outwardly appearance the girl's mind reeled with questions. Would she belong here? How would she contribute to the pack? Would they even like her? She couldn't help but play over how her acceptance into their ranks had gone. It was not the happy reunion she'd hoped for her new friends. Instead, it had been bittersweet and laced with heartache. The grief-stricken cries of Eros's brother echoed in her mind. She shook her pelt to try and relieve the internal tension she felt. Sage couldn't help the insecurities that her timing to join during a time of loss would affect her ability to fit in. Don't be so selfish.
