RE: The heat is unbearable lately, wolves everywhere need to find a way to cool down. This change in weather causes the sky to suddenly darken and then light up with heat lightning over the Blackberry Fields.

Dated July 30th, 2023. 85F, Smoke. Mid-Afternoon. Torianna is 11 weeks old.
8-10 weeks: Adults abandon the birthing den and move the pups to a rendezvous site (these are used from mid-May through mid-October and packs may have as many 3 or 4 different locations). Weaning completes, and they can now feed on food that an adult provides. Adult hairs become fully apparent on the head and face. Vocabulary at the end of 9 weeks should have skyrocketed to about a thousand words. Puppies are capable of repeating four-syllable words and parroting what adults say in their midst. Their ability to successfully follow speech rhythm is poor but still understandable ("Uncle Triell" vs. "Ung-kull Treeee-yell"). They are also able to grasp the concept of time (ie. morning, day, evening, night, today, tomorrow). Estimated human age: 5-6 years old.
8-16 weeks: Eyes begin to gradually change from blue to their adult colours, commonly a yellow-gold. By the time puppies are 3.5 months (14 weeks) old, they are able to grasp more abstract words (ie. hope, dream, guess, pretend, believe), solve simple problems, and are competent enough to understand the concept of talking and listening, and joining a conversation while making relevant points. Estimated human age: 6.5 years old.

It was so ungodly hot that Torianna wasn’t certain how she was supposed to focus on anything other than the thickness in the air and a desperate need for water. Her tongue felt heavy and her throat felt thick as she groaned, despair in her features as she trudged her way over to the edges of the Backwater, letting her paws soak in the slightly cooler water, looking for some form of relief for all of the misery she felt with the heat on her pelt which grew in thicker by the day.

Perhaps there was a hint of melodrama in her suffering, but it was all well and finely defined for her. She believed every ounce of what she felt to be one-hundred percent the truth. No one could convince her of otherwise.

She let out another groaning, moaning as if she might die. She was fairly certain that she was dying, truly. It pulled from the depths of her stomach and demanded satisfaction of attention in her direction… she needed some kind of entertainment to keep her mind occupied.
