Spectre Slayer

After having gained permission from her alpha to be permitted to stretch her legs, she left the packs borders at a trot, heading north, a spring in her step. Shade had permitted her to take Adsila on more hunting trips, and she oped that the young girl would get better and better in her ability to hunt. So the pale female had broken into a run once she was clear of the borders, enjoying the feeling of her body soaring over the ground, of her paws beating the earth below into submission. Her bushy tail was held high over her back, not in a display of dominance, but out of euphoria. Jaws lay unhinged, her tongue lolly to the side as ice blue eyes watched the landscape around her. It was late evening, and she wished to make it as far as possible by dark. As Shade had requested, Spectre would return home by dawn.. But for now.. For now she had to enjoy her time.. She was free.

Night fell, finding the pale female winded as she entered Spectral Woods - the place that Shade had found her before. The female slowed to a trot, allowing herself time to catch her breath. It was invigorating really, to be so out of breath. She enjoyed it and felt her heart pounding in her breast. Feeling much like a child again, Spectre made her way down to the small creek and let herself sidle down the embankment into the cool waters. Lowering her head, the Pitch Pine hunter took the time to quench her thirst, enjoying the sounds of the woods at night surrounding her. It was almost like heaven.

The stuttered stride and occasional awkward stumble marked his traipsing about, nose sniffing about the air once or twice--then back to padding along. In his mouth was a small, dried skull gently held between his lips. There was a simple 'off' air about the boy but those few that came in contact with him had found his dedication to finding his lost friends quite tenacious. As he moved along into the darkened woodlands, the eerie glow a bit off-putting and enough for him to give pause before setting the skull down "It is okay, bunny-friend. I will keep you safe." his speech a tad slow but deliberate in each syllable. Tango promptly picked the skull up into his mouth and aimlessly ambled along until hearing the rumble of thunder overhead. It was low in tone but not lacking in duration, tensing the little wolf up while paws trekked through the misty grounds, the careless crackle and crunch of sticks and leaves under foot gave way to that 'off' gait of his.

The faint sounds of rapid footsteps in the distance brought Tango to a stumbling halt, his ears perking for a moment and setting the skull down in preparation to say words of encouragement--yet when the other blew past like a blinding streak of white-furred lightning, Tango did not utter words but a rather feminine scream. He proceeded to scramble in place, pausing only to grab the skull and sprint blindly around the woods, eyes wide and darting about for signs of that spectral ghoul that had given him a small heart-attack. The light thumps of a more refined gait eventually did slow to that staggered trot when Tango discovered the noises of burbling waters nearby.

Completely oblivious to all else at the present second, he set the skull down in the edge of the water first before speaking "It is okay bunny-friend. I have escaped the ghost and you are safe now. I figured that you. Are. Thirsty." odd, short pauses in that last phrasing before he flopped onto his side, head resting in the water and jaws opening to take in large gulps of water. A moment or so later, Tango rolled onto his belly and looked to the skull "I wish there were berries around here because it has been a long time since we left home and you haven't eaten since. But we'll find foodthings for you, I promise." and with that came the furious wagging of his tail, wagging with such effort that his bottom wagged with it.

She paused from quenching her thirst at the sound of a voice, and lifted her head, frowning at the strange creature who appeared to be...talking to himself. Spectre tilted her head as she focused ice blue eyes on the beast, then lowered her head to the bleached white skull he held nearby.. SEemingly talking to it. A frown marred the pale females features as she waved her fluffy tail slightly, canting her head to the side. "Excuse me....are...are you lost?" Well, he might not be, but why on earth was the thing talking to a skull of all things? Was he...addled? Injured perhaps..

"I can help you...my name is Spectre, I live in the pack south of here. If you wish, I can guide you out of these woods.. perhaps get you something to eat?" She had overheard him talking about finding something to eat, but was not aware that he had been telling his 'bunny friend' that he would get him some food. The female stepped closer, slowly so as not to startle the other wolf, keeping her posture easy, not dominant to him. After all, he was no where near Pitch Pine territory, so there was little need to attempt to scare the poor thing out of his skull. Still.. She closed the distance until she was standing a few yards from him, tilting her head. "What is your name? And...your friend there?" She felt it best to attempt to make some kind of small talk. Perhaps she would learn more about him.

Content to let his face soak in the water--and make bubbles with his mouth, he thumped his bushy tail against the ground for a good while "Blblblblp!" until the sound of another's voice caught him off guard. Scrambing onto his belly, he shook his head to fling droplets of water about the place and was quite ready to run at the blurry sight of the female "Oh, you're not a ghost-lady. You're a wolf-lady." a simple wag of his tail following as he slowly stood up "No, I am not lost. I am Tango." a moment or two passing before he realized what she meant "Oh-oh! No, I was trying to find food for bunny-friend. You see, he is hungry and he would like some berries. But there are no berries here--I am also trying to find my wolf-friends! I woke up one day and they. Were. All. Gone."

Gently nudging the skull under his muzzle, his ears lay flat as if he knew something was wrong but was utterly in denial "You scared me and bunny-friend earlier but things are okay now, lady-friend." a pause "Do you know where I am? I have been searching everywhere for berries and cannot remember which way is back. I am not sure but I think bunny-friend would like to go home." and after a moment, as if having suddenly remembered--Tango trot over to her to lick Spectre's nose and scamper back to the skull "You--You are Tango's friend now, yes?" an excited inquiry sounding as he picked the skull up gently, tail wagging almost furiously. Much to the point where his rump wagged with it.
