Astra watched the herd of deer in the distance with an experienced eye. She took note of their numbers. It was a small herd, and while it wasn't uncommon for the prey animals to become more scarce as winter settled in, she noticed that this group was a little smaller than average. For now, this didn't concern her. That wouldn't mean she'd stop from keeping a careful eye on them, should they stay in the area. As the agouti male she had saved came forward, she shared with him a soft smile. He looked worn down though. No doubt tired from the exhausting ordeal of abandoning their home. She could tell he was stressed. Was it really worth the extra effort of bringing down a single deer when they already had a freshly killed carcass all to themselves? Maksim didn't think so, as he voiced his opinion, reminding her of the stressful journey they had just endured. He was right. Taking one last glance at Destin, she turned away from her hiding spot. <b style="font-family:georgia;font-size:11px;color:#385d79;">"As tempting as the opportunity for more food is, he is right. It's more practical that we conserve our energy, for now." She admitted with a sigh, taking one last look at the grazing herd of deer behind her. A sign that she wasn't about to forget about them anytime soon. A sensitive, intuitive individual, Astra delivered a soft nudge to Destin's shoulder with her nose. As if to say, "Cheer up, try to focus on the future." Approaching the body of the deer, she paused, allowing plenty of room for the youngest members of the newly born pack. The trek across the mountains had likely taken a physical toll on their growing bodies, and they were the ones most in need of these calories. After they had had their fill, the butterscotch female claimed a spot at the rump of the animal, placing a paw on the haunches to stake her claim. Ripping into the tender flesh with her teeth, she welcomed the taste of the warm meat, which she gobbled down hungrily. Only when the young white males voice rang out, did she become distracted, lifting her head up attentively. Another deer already? Well then, it looked like they had made the right choice in deciding not to hunt. As thrilled as she was with this discovery, in the back of her head, a concern popped up. Why were so many deer being killed? Were they growing weak or ill? Was the early winter impacting them? Or were the predators just gorging themselves? Her brows furrowed in thought, a clue that much more was going on in that mind of hers than what her expression gave away. Having had her fill, she licked her muzzle clean and came over to inspect their latest meal. <b style="font-family:georgia;font-size:11px; color:#385d79;">"I think we should. Let's take advantage of our good fortune." Astra was gaining more and more confidence by the day, but she wasn't about to question or challenge Maksim's authority in any way. She was just a natural at taking the initiative, and not in an arrogant or overpowering way at that. Taking a hind leg between her jaws, she dug her paws deep into the ground and pulled. Beginning the process of dismantling the carcass so it could be easily stored away, to be used some other day.<b style="font-family:georgia; font-size:11px; color:#385d79;"> |

Anastasia Starklen
The first to step to it and come to Anastasia’s quarters was Astra, the woman that now held a very important part to Anastasia’s future. Something that Ana wanted but could not reach, not yet anyways. She would, though. Indeed it was good news as the land was already telling them that it was bountiful in food and likely good for the harsh winter, but with the scent of something else on top of it they would need to be careful. However, when the woman mentioned the idea of going and hunting the nearby herd of deer she felt shocked by the suggestion. “We have just traveled quite far,” she mentioned just in the perimeter of her and Astra before her attention was stolen by Maksim. He, too, deemed that we had already done so much during the last couple days that hunting was probably not the best plan of action. Quietly and without worry, she watched as the others around her began to eat. She would wait until the very last of the crew had eaten enough to take a small portion for herself if there was anything left, that is. Anastasia looked out for the rest rather than worry of herself, it was her way of expression love to be as selfless as possible in the most crucial of moments. There were children here and they would get the most of their fill, before she would allow others to regain their strength while she could wait it out. Pretty soon another carcass had been found nearby and the obvious reaction was to cache it, to save it for another time so that the relocated pack wolves could dine another night. Cerulean eyes focused upon her new Alpha, her attention always on him in this important journey that was finally coming to a sufficient close. |

Destin McBain
Destin nodded in agreement towards Maksim in reply to his statement. They did have a very long journey across mountains, and surely others would like to rest. Destin now noticed his legs and head felt like lead. A surge of fatigue washed through him and almost sent him teetering towards the ground, though he managed to retain his balance. His golden glance turned to look towards the deer that everyone was eating, and then to the other they had just found. Destin wrote it off as good fortune- or perhaps Mother Nature was just trying to lull them- and watched as everyone crowded around the carcass and began taking their share. The male simply sat and watched. His stomach did feel empty, but the dead animal did not look appetizing or inviting at the moment. A good patch of grass or a place under a tree would be just fine with him.
The McBain noticed that another wolf was remaining behind, a white female that he did not recognize but voiced her concerns regarding hunting as well. There seemed to be so many newcomers that the subordinate simply could not keep track, and if anything he would have guessed that others tagged along on the journey. Destin laid down where he was, resting his head on his paws yet still keeping an eye on Maksim and the others. If they had to move he would stand up, but if not he was quite comfortable where he was laying. "Are we going to go looking for a suitable camp now or tomorrow?" he asked, directing the question towards Maksim or Astra. He half hoped that the answer would be the latter, though finding a more guarded place would perhaps be the next best course of action.
