The girl could not even imagine having a father like that, and she was now thankful that she had never found him on one of her expeditions. Parents were supposed to be honest, hard-working, and kind, and father seemed to fit none of those categories. Eva could understand white lies, like when a pup asks a question that was not ready to be answered yet... but to tell a son that his half-sister was some kind of creature on a wanted list that deserved to be hunted down and killed? Nina was a wonderful, friendly wolf that never deserved anything like that to happen to her. And yet it did.
An anger filled her, like a hand pressing and holding onto her heart. How dare her father do such horrific things to the siblings she loved! It was all his fault that they were separated, that she had to hide all of her life, that she had never had a dad! Eva closed her eyes, breathing deeply and steadying her tumultuous emotions. When they were opened, Nina was still there. And there was still more that Eva needed to know. "Where are mom's parents? Are dad's as bad as he is?" The girl attempted to keep her voice calm, though her body tensed as waves of anger washed over her. She knew that she could not assume that her father's parents were as awful as he was, the three children he had brought into this world were proof enough of that.
