Fight System Adjustment
Whoa, three updates in a row?! Your staff has been very busy, so expect more announcements over the upcoming weeks. To help facilitate that, I've gone ahead and fixed the alert notification for announcements - you will now be actually linked to the announcement thread instead of a missing page thread.
First off, I want to congratulate Rachel (@Phineas) for being named February's Member of the Month and @Hollow for being named February's Wolf of the Month! Congratulations as well to Vickie, Lightning, and Grey for being the month's top posters. Nice work everybody! To celebrate our new OTMs, Bryony and I spent some time yesterday adding back in the full records of the previous OTMs, which you can see here.
Note, the OTM voting list only includes people who have made posts during that month, so keep that in mind if you decide to vote early!
Fighting System Adjustments
Most of you are fairly familiar with our Fighting System, a stat based system that helps give some complexity to fights between characters. One of its biggest flaws has always been that characters with high amounts of LP were essentially untouchable because of their huge HP stat. After some discussion and some help from Kydnt, Kydnt's boyfriend, and Sarah, the system has now been adjusted so that LP does not increase to such a drastic degree. LP is now calculated using a logarithm to help balance out the overall HP stat.
For those who are interested, the new formula is: log3(x^7)-10. Which means that wolves with the following LP values with have the following Stat:
-- Wolf with 300 LP: 26
-- Wolf with 1000 LP: 34
-- Wolf with 3000 LP: 41
We believe that this will help make fights a bit more fair, while at the same time acknowledging the hard work put in by players who accumulate so much LP.
Another minor change that we're making is when you roll to determine if you hit or miss, you will now be rolled on a d10 instead of d20. This is to increase the opportunities for misses and help to balance out fight stats between opponents who are more or less equal to one another statistically.
These changes are being made on a trial basis. This trial will run through the month of March and will begin immediately. In April, the staff will reevaluate, with member input, the successes and failures of these changes. We want to keep improving for you guys, so help us test out this system and let us know what you think!
Reminder
Related to the fight system, we want to remind everyone that Player A should not log on one day to find that they have been tagged in a fight request. The fight system was meant to be used in the event that an OOC agreement could not be made beforehand, and we've been informed a few times by people who have been surprised by a fight being initiated without any prior contact. To ensure that there an agreement to the use system from both sides, staff who roll for fights will be asking for confirmation from all involved parties before doing any rolls. So please be courteous to your fellow RPers!
