April – Midday – Partly Cloudy — Current Temperature: 48° F/9° C
@Illiana

The Young Hellion padded through the thicket, weaving through bushes and even sometimes having to turn around and find another route as his body was too large to fit through the tight spaces. But he didn’t mind as it made the day more interesting, trying to find his way around his present home. No, he didn’t have one place that he could call ‘home’ as he was a wandered, and could only call his place home when he was around others like himself. But the only wolf like him was on the other side of the mountain, and he had completed his mission, so now he was just biding his time, searching for others that could be useful to the both of them, before they met up on the mountain.

When he came to the edge of the thicket, he paused for a few minutes, closing his eyes and letting the warm sun wash over him – what was seen of the sun from the clouds that blocked it from view. His dark fur almost glistened under the sun’s bright rays and patchwork of white and blue that lay spread upon the canvas above. A soft, whispering breeze tugged and pulled at his long, pristine pelt, as if it was tempting him to dance to a sweet melody. It was almost calming, listening to the chirps of birds and other sounds of springtime.

As he stood straight, staring out at the Blackberry Fields, his head was held up high, proudly and regally, as if he owned the world and all had to bow down to him, or suffer the consequences. He was a leader and king, born and raised, and nothing could – or would – stop him from achieving his ultimate goal, or they would be the first to be kicked aside and left in the dust if his mighty trail to greatness. If anyone so much as dared to look at him without his permission, he would deal out the suitable punishment, so they would never do it again as long as they were a part of his kingdom. They would all learn to live under him, serve him and the dark she-wolf without any hesitation to their commands, and in return, he would provide them with the safety of a home and numbers to protect them from others that did not have the right to be a part of them. He was a fair ruler, but most others did not see it like that, which was sad really, as they were missing out on a whole other world.

Illiana sprawled herself out. She was relaxing in the sun, enjoying the warmth of it on her back after a long winter. Her entire body was relaxed, though her panting breaths disrupted the peace of her relaxation. She’d needed the break, the way she’d walked for so long had exhausted her. She closed her amber eyes for a moment, her tongue sweeping across her nose and lips briefly. The clouds that muffled the sun enabled her to cool down, letting her black pelt cool for a moment. She lifted her maw into the breeze when it wafted, only to pause and look about. Nerves built in her chest, her heart pulsing furiously.

She could smell a male, and fear built inside her chest. She wasn’t sure what was going to happen. Her ears perked faintly as she sought to bring herself up to a confident, but relaxed stance. Her paws clung to the ground as she stretched herself, her tail curling behind her back as her rump lifted. A shiver ran down her spine before she straightened up. Her black pelt bristled briefly before she licked at her chops. She needed to calm herself down. She lifted her chin slightly high, amber eyes flicking about as she looked for him. She wanted to see, wanted to know who, or what, she was going to be facing. She must have passed his still form a few times before spotting him in the shadowed edge of the forest.

She sighed softly before stepping forwards smoothly. She wanted to get to know other wolves, needed to if she intended to stay here. She was hesitant despite the grace inherent in her slender body, despite the urge to know someone else. She whined under her breath as she came within hailing distance. Her tail tapped her hocks as she wagged it, her head dipping a little lower. She was being respectful, and it showed even in the way her eyes slipped from his eyes to his cheek. She felt dwarfed by him, her body slender but long. Her tail flicked back and forth before she sat down, tucking her tail about her paws. The shade from the trees chilled her again, her warmth being leeched from her.

“Afternoon, sir.” Her voice was quiet as she replied, her scarred nose flaring as she dragged in his scent. She felt delicate, dainty even. Her eyes dropped lower, until they were lingering on the somewhat dulled claws that gripped the earth. She wasn’t going to speak again – she dare not. It was so easy for her to be hurt, when she lacked even the knowledge of how to fight properly. She didn’t fidget, instead sitting still and waiting. She was patient beyond patience being needed, her breathing slow but steady as she kept her ears perked for the sound of growling or speech.

If the wind had been blowing in his direction, Anouke would have scented her first, but the world was always unforgiving, and so it was the other way. His bright amber eyes only saw another wolf as it started moving smoothly towards him. Staring at the darkly furred wolf padding closer and closer, his dark head and shoulders lifted up with practiced ease. He was still on the border of Secret Woodlands, but it was also his birthright to stand above others as their king and rule them to greatness. They need only follow his and the dark she-wolfs orders without hesitation, and show the proper respect around them, and he would provide said wolves with a home and numbers. He was a fair leader, but others did not see it that way, which was such a shame, as they were missing out on a whole other world.

Dark ears pricked as the caught the sound of an undertone whining emitting from the she-wolf before him, tail lightly swishing back and forth by her back paws, and head dipping lower. Her amber eyes slipped down from his own eyes in full respect, and he watched silently, but inwardly pleased that she knew who was the superior, as she sat down, tail curling and tucking in by her paws. She spoke softly, but also reverentially, and he watched her eyes drop even lower until they were looking down upon the ground. Lifting his muzzle up ever so slightly and his tail tip curling somewhat towards his body, the Young Hellion stared at the she-wolf for a few seconds, running his bright amber gaze over her lithe body, scouting out anything that could be useful, and letting her know that he wouldn’t rush into things.

Canting his head marginally to the side, the Young Hellion let the corners of his lips twitch up infinitesimally in a smirk. She could be extremely valuable to him, if she chose to join him, but who wouldn’t? A soft, rumbling purr emitted from his barely opened jaws before he spoke in his deep, baritone voice. “Milady,” he said, being the ever-respectful wolf he was. All other wolves he had met did not address him properly, and so he did the same to them. But the she-wolf before him understood him, and wisely she had spoken appropriately to him, and in return, he would do the same. “What brings you out to the borders of Secret Woodlands?” He rumbled gently, voicing out a seemingly curious question, but his eyes never left her face as he waited for her reply, in which he would know for sure if she could be of use.

She was patiently, but respectful. She could almost feel the dominance and regal nature of this male. He stared at her, and she dropped her head lower. She was submissive, not bothering to even stir. She soon stilled from a stirring movement, her tail having wagged briefly. She wrinkled her scarred nose a little as she felt him running his eyes over her. She felt as though she had assessed, as though she were found wanting. A sigh rumbled her body. She knew she wasn’t pretty, though she was put together well enough for a female. Her slender body was stretched out now, her paws touching slightly beneath her reasonably deep chest.

She shivered as he spoke, her ears falling back against her narrow skull. She peered at him briefly, a direct flash of amber eyes before dropping them again. As he spoke, respect being repaid in his voice, her ears returned to an upright, perked position. Her head tilted to the side and she let her eyes drift from the shadowed space between his paws to the broad ebon coloured chest. As he questioned her, she fought the urge to whine and throw herself on her back. Even she could be made of better stuff than that. She refused to believe otherwise.

”I’m merely exploring, sir. Looking for somewhere to call my own as I learn how to be a wolf. As grief is allowed to wash from me, I need a home to do it in.” She lifted her eyes to him briefly, letting him see the pain that still lingered within her eyes. She didn’t even ask him anything. Instead, her voice lifted again in a quiet offer of her name. “I’m known by Illiana.” After she spoke this time, she tucked her chin against her furred, fluffy chest. The breeze still bit into her, the sun barely even warming her back. She felt a shiver begin to bubble through her, but she fought it back.

Something inside her made her want to impress him. She wanted him to see her as something…as someone, he could trust. She needed a friend, and he could take that spot. She knew he could, but only if she made sure she proved herself as useful. Her tail wagged before she widened her nose, dragging in deep lungs of the wolf-scented air that surrounded them. She could smell more than one wolf now. Being close to the trees offered her a better opportunity to learn the scents. She enjoyed the wash of so many scents after being alone, her eyes hopefully yet sad as she stared into the distance.
