Wraith Kael

Wraith's ears pinned back at the ticklish sensation of @Morganna's changing expressions buried into the back of his neck. He remained respectfully silent as she unloaded her concerns. As she continued on, the brute could only hope Skoll would indeed make a choice rather than leaving their Alpha floundering. But perhaps with Hecate's pregnancy, that decision would be made all the easier.

He breathed deeply, amber eyes half-lidded while he listened. The way she described the life for her pups - her pups, hers, not his - was all that he wanted to give them as well. Love, devotion. He wanted to help shape their morals and guide them in the ways of pack life. As pack life should be rather than as they were currently. More than anything, he wanted to protect and provide for them.

"I'd like to help you give that to them," he murmured gently. "If you'd allow it." How many times over the past few days had he been told he would have nothing to do with their upbringing regardless of whether or not he was their father? And how many times had he had to explain that it didn't matter whether or not they had his blood. A pack raised pups. It wasn't the sole responsibility of the parents. And here, here was one who understood that. "Will you allow it?" he asked, showing the doubt that still nagged at him and said he wasn't worthy of the task.

Will you allow it? The question was like a knife to her heart. "O' course." She answered flatly, without hesitation. She would never dream of keeping anyone in the pack from the children. Least of all @Wraith. Morganna moved her nose forward to press against his cheek, taking a moment to choose her next words carefully. He had proven himself time and time again, and above all else he was loyal, perhaps almost to a fault. Who was better suited for the request she was about to make? His tone betrayed his uncertainty, and perhaps even a little pain. A pain she shared to think she had made him so uncertain, that she had failed to remind him that he was important. She couldn't let him languish in her silence any longer.

"I'm not sure if yer've considered a specialisation, a role..." Hell he could do anything he wanted and she wouldn't push the matter one way or another but she had to ask. "Yer clearly well rounded, a skilled hunter, a fierce guardian..." the latter added with a smirk as she rolled to bump him with her shoulder. "Have yer considered teaching?" It sounded so much more important than pup sitter and carried much more responsibility. It would mean next to herself he would have perhaps the greatest amount of influence over her impressionable youths, and in her heart she knew she was making the right request. It would then be up to him if he wished to take her up on it, but she knew he would keep them safe, and she trusted him to teach them the right way.

@Morganna said it so simply that the male couldn't help but breathe a quiet sigh of relief. The only reason doubt had come into the equation at all was due to the responses of various packmates. Their reactions to his transgressions had left a bitter taste in his mouth he'd not been able to effectively shake. Wraith leaned into her gentle touch as she pressed her muzzle against his cheek in the same quiet comfort he often readily showed her.

The black male's ears pricked at the mention of a role. @Nicolò had brought up such a thing as well. It still made little sense to the northerner whose birth pack shared responsibilities equally. Those who had a proclivity towards a certain role were given leave to perform those duties more often if it suited them, but there was no name put to what they were. They were simply pack and were expected to behave as such. The Willows' obsession with naming and separating seemed counter intuitive before, but he supposed no one had taken the time to explain what it meant to have a role within the pack.

Wraith smiled as she complimented him, but it froze on his face as she mentioned delicately the option for teaching. The importance of the offer was not lost on him. He could not be named as father; Wraith understood that. But this opportunity would grant him every opportunity to act as one with full acceptance via pack law that could not be refuted.

"Yes," he said breathlessly. He shook his head quickly. "I mean, no, I haven't, but yes. I would. It would be an honor."

Releasing a breath she hadn't realised she had been holding, her smile was genuine, even if it did hold a slightly smug edge to it. "I can't think o' anyone better suited to it, so it's yours if yer want it." Of course it would take some time for the rest of the pack to realise it, and if he tried and realised it was not to his liking she wasn't going to stuff him through a hole in which he did not fit, but her heart told her this was the perfect job for him. "Any child o' mine is gonna be a handful, if yer change yer mind..." she teased, allowing a mock warning of impending doom to play on her lips, "Too bad." Her laugh betrayed that she didn't truly mean her final statement but that didn't mean she wouldn't take the opportunity to rile him a little.

Throwing her head across his neck she made herself comfortable, eyes slowly getting heavier as she continued to preen the fur in places Wraith could not reach. "Go ter sleep." she told him, "Yer look terrible," and you're going to have to get it while you can. She would make sure he was soundly asleep before settling herself down. The hoi polloi would manage if she allowed herself one small nap.

"I won't change my mind," Wraith assured with a smile. He quite enjoyed a challenge, after all. Coming south had been a challenge. Abandoning all that he knew had been a challenge. While it hadn't been done with the most grace, it had been done successfully. Those boars had been a challenge, too, but Wraith had enjoyed taking them down the most. Even if Morganna's pups had twice the stubbornness of those pigs, Wraith would consider his life well-lived no matter the result.

The brute snorted as she quite plainly accused him of looking awful. "Thanks for that," he said on a small laugh, humor coloring his tone to show he took no offense. He knew he could use the rest. It had been too long since he'd rested comfortably. The northerner could only hope his ghosts would remain absent as it seemed @Morganna was content to rest with him for the time being. Perhaps her presence would keep them away and allow him the rest he desperately needed. "Stay," he murmured quietly. It would be nice to wake and find her still there with him.

He needed no more urging before his eyes slid closed and he was slumbering deeply. The depth of his sleep could easily be measured as the muscles along his back relaxed fully and his breaths grew farther apart. No ghosts bothered him during this sleep.
