With a small surge of glee the girl realized she had gotten a hold of him! She's actually gotten a hold of him! Her teeth sank into his scruff and there was maybe the smallest drop of blood that spread onto the tip of her tongue and suddenly she became aware of what it meant: she was hurting him, hurting Larkspur. She felt bad: this was just supposed to be a friendly spar. Now the girl was not sure what to do. Hurt him more by forcing her teeth in deeper? That didn't seem right. But what else was there to do? With a sinking sensation the girl remembered that she could at least be defending herself.

And in that moment Larkspur seized her by the nape of her neck and without even knowing how the girl felt him force her downward. Her body connected with the ground roughly, though Larkspur was not nearly as rough as he could have been with her. She had made him bleed. Larkspur was at least trying to harmlessly educate her. "Am I doing okay?" she barked nervously, trying to wiggle out of his grip though she found it difficult. But if she couldn't escape what could she do? Panic began to set it as she tried to move her whole body, testing which parts still had a full range of motion.

Oh: her feet. Her hind legs still moved just find. With a small grin she leased a forceful rabbit-kick straight into Larkspur's throat. That should do the trick!

Larkspur tightened his grip as the girl attempted to wriggle free. Instead of continuing on with his assault, he patiently waited for Sahalie to figure out how to free herself. Unable to really talk and let the girl know she was doing fine, he settled with a grunt and a tail wag. For a few moments they didn't do much. Sahalie was trying to figure something out and Lark kept his steady grip on her. He quietly growled to urge her on, but then started to feel the girl move — actually move.

He attempted to move, but wasn't quick enough. Sahalie's legs forcefully jammed into his throat and shoved away from her. Lark lost his footing and stumbled away from her, gasping and coughing as he tried to collect himself. "I'm okay," he sputtered out before she could try to ask him. A few more deep breaths, throat-clearings and a cough or two for good measure and he was as good as.... Well, as good as Larkspur could be.

"You might be better off if you didn't think too hard," god forbid Larkspur start out with something positive. She had done well. Hell, she'd done a lot better than he'd anticipated. "If you practice, you'll get better," it was something she probably already knew, but it didn't help to be reminded. He was finished playing around like a pup, so found a sunny spot under his tree (his tree, mind you) and plopped himself down.

"I doubt anyone would really try to fight you," he mused, "Being the Darling and all." He somehow found it hard to see Sahalie in a fight. Not practice, but something where her life would really be in danger. Hell, he couldn't see someone challenging her when she became an alpha (and she would be, some day, he felt pretty certain of it). Sahalie wanted the best for everyone, and who wouldn't want that at the head of a pack? Larkspur put his head on his paws, his throat ached and the small wound on his chest burned. "Plus, if they do, I'll kill 'em."

And he meant it.

It did the trick and then some. From the corner of her eye she could see the white man reeling away, coughing and spluttering like a fish out of water. Before she could do more than prop herself up on one foreleg, Lark had gotten some wind back into his lungs and he was stammering to tell her that he was alright. She wanted to run over to him, check his throat, offer to get him some water (how, she didn't know) but realized that overbearing aid would be unwanted, and instead she was left to stare at him with knitted eyebrows and a slanted frown for a mouth.

At least he was able to get some more words out after that, and she hadn't accidentally damaged his throat or something. That area certainly felt very squishy. Dutifully, the girl nodded her head to her instructions: she had been thinking a lot, and practice was always good. Her tail began to thump behind her slowly when she realized he had nothing worse to say than this. She'd apparently done fine. Fine enough to get him off of her. Trying to keep from wiggling in too much of a celebratory manner, the girl scooted after the man as he went to lay down under the broad, naked oak he had claimed with his lovely low hanging branches.

As he continued, the girl stood up on her hind legs and draped her front half over one of the lowest, most supple branches and amused herself at how the limb bounced underneath her and Lark's clever joke. Well, the girl certainly could not imagine someone trying to hurt her. Drestig had always said that there were bad wolves out there but she had still yet to meet any. Everyone liked her well enough: even Lark. Her heartbeat stopped altogether for a moment at the gravity of his threat. Really?

"I'd do the same," she said, much quieter, more uncertainly.

She had no idea what she meant.

"I'll let you be," she said, feeling at last that the man deserved some alone time or had finally earned it after putting up with her worrying and kicking him in the throat. As she backed off of the branch and watched it spring and boing like nothing she'd ever seen before, the girl mumbled a soft thank you. He'd at least managed to take her mind off of Alastor.

He had closed his eyes, but peeked one eye open to look at her suspiciously. He smiled in the way that he did; in a malicious way instead of warm and welcoming. Lark didn't say anything, instead wondered if she'd even heard the words that she'd said. Silly, stupid girl, he thought, then chose not to say. He could not see Sahalie standing up for him that way, he couldn't see her getting angry enough to want revenge. She was too forgiving for that. "Mmh," Lark closed his eye. He felt twigs fall from the branch and land on his back and shook them off. "Don't be selfish, Sahalie," he called to her as she left. "It will ruin you." No selfish leader was a good leader.

He was proof of that.
