That he was suddenly addressed directly surprised him, and made him all the more uncomfortable. Askan's eyes had kept wandering to him, but that was expected what with him being present and all. Cancer thought maybe even he was being watched incase he decided to lash out--that seemed to be a common thing, wolves expecting far more anger and much less sulking than Cancer ever really gave. But no, the Edge lead spoke casually, like he was trying to make small talk with someone he was stuck waiting with.
Was that possible, to talk like it didn't really go down as explosively as it had, pretend he wasn't still hurt and that he was a wolf who didn't hold onto shit like this? Cancer didn't know as he shifted his weight awkwardly, staring back at the other man, uncertain of how he wanted to react. So as usual, he simply went with the first thing that came to mind.
"Thanks, I guess. Was nice not to be completely shit on."
He had, after all, expected Askan to tell Peter to fuck off as well and chase him and Ris out.
Adelayde came and Laike left, then some total stranger popped in. Cancer began to inch backward; he was feeling too crowded, there was really no use for him now that it was certain the occasion was amiable, and really what more could Askan have to say to him?
