It took her longer to arrive than she would have liked. Whatever was going on, she didn't want to be last! But it was all the way on the other side of their territory, and her paw did still kind of hurt now that she was running all over the place on it. She was feeling rather sorry for herself for missing out, as well as nervous, and hopeful all in one. Perhaps she should have been paying more attention to the way the rumbling was growing louder, more ominous. It sounded like thunder, coming from under the ground. In fact, she could actually feel the ground trembling!
Tucking her tail between her legs, she sprinted toward where she had heard Aquene call from, letting out a cry of her own. "Ma! Da!" She wasn't really thinking anymore.
And then she crested a small rise and saw the dust and the huge creatures streaming along frantically just like the ants and a handful of the grown-ups and... "Leo!" Stella exclaimed as she pressed herself close to the ground beside a small, stunted pine, her eyes wide in fear. Her brother was in danger, but a few of the creatures had broken ranks, and the chaos of the situation had overwhelmed any ability the girl had to act.
