OUR HOPES AND EXPECTATIONS
BLACK HOLES AND REVELATIONS

If only he knew what to do then life would be so much simpler. But then no wolf on earth had the gift of knowing exactly what to do all the time, there was always going to be give and take with risks, some would pay off and others he would not be so lucky. He'd encountered enough luck so far within his life, especially after surviving his first year as a lone wolf and his time thereafter. The thing was Weldering did not want to live with luck anymore, he wanted to feel as if he was the one actually in control of his own destiny. It was a sorrowful dream to ask for as he sat alone perched upon a rock in the middle of a quiet forest. It was as if he was the only soul out that night, restless and unable to sleep in and old abandoned den he had stumbled upon in the bushes nearby.

"Uh... what do I do.." He muttered to himself whilst surveying the stars as they lit up the skies above. His posture holding his head up high while the young black masked male stargazed to his hearts content. It was not as though he was looking up to the heavens for answers, he had tried to go down the road before and tried to follow someone else's beliefs about spirits and religion but Weldering could not grasp their ways with such a scientific way of thinking. To him the stars were not entities of life but right now were nothing more then pretty lights that made the lonely darkness a little more bearable.

Indru Tainn

It was hard for him to cross the broken land that had once been his home, the scorched and destroyed trees of the Wildwood, also the burial site of his parents, cruelly taken by the flames. His home, in Scared Grove, shrouded the view, but when the wind was right it was hard not to notice the acrid smell of burning that still lingered in the air. It was this night that he was woken again, the smell seeping into his unconscious mind and playing havoc with his dreams, turning them in destructive nightmares ridden with guilt. So it was not a coincidence Indru had woken and escaped his den in the middle of the night with only stars for company.

With an aimlessness suited to a lone wolf the boy had stumbled away from the Grove, travelling through the undamaged part of the Wildwood before he could escape into Cedarwood forest. He hoped to soothe his queasy stomach, the dream still vivid and making the boy feel sick with the emotions it brought upon him. It was this mental torment which made him careless, and he therefore missed the fresh scent of the lone wolf who had crossed here, and it was only this wolf's words that broke him from his thoughts. With little hesitation Indru approached the wolf further, seeing him gazing heavenwards towards the stars, perhaps in his own torment. I'm not much sure they will tell you anything. His tone was light so not to startle him, and he watched the younger wolf with sympathy, it was a question he had asked the stars already. At least they didn't tell me.

BLACK HOLES AND REVELATIONS

At least Indru was lucky enough to still have a land to cross, Weldering now found himself only able to wander over unfamiliar terrain. Sure he had spent a few days in this region now trying to get to grips with the various scenes and landmarks. Where were the best hunting spots, the freshest water, the safest of shelters and perhaps more importantly the packs and which lands they claimed. As a loner he always realised the importance of finding out where the neutral lands ended and trespassing would begin. Weldering never wished to be caught out in a argument between just himself and an entire pack when he was the one at fault, nasty combination that would end up becoming. So would he stay here in Relic Lore... would he move on? He had not decided just yet.

While the lingering smell of burning was apparent to even Weldering, a newcomer to these lands he had thought nothing of it until Junai had mentioned the tragic news. Ever since he had been told the young male had tried his best to mentally block his thoughts clouding the fire, although the fire had no connection to him he shared the sadness with Junai out of the similarities the disaster had affected her. It was just another vivid and cruel way his past was brought back to haunt him remembering how his own adoptive daughter had burned only a couple of months ago.

It was once more through luck it seemed that his thoughts were interrupted, a soft voice calling out towards him from the ground of the dark forest. It was not so hard to see the other male however as he stepped into the starlight beneath Weldering's boulder perch. "No.. you're right." He sighed, glancing back briefly towards the sky before allowing a thin smile to cross his muzzle. "I'm just procrastinating." He murred softly back, which of course was true. Muttering to himself or the stars even was not going to solve any of his problems. With his attention set back upon the unknown male there was a scent he carried and while Weldering refused to believe any scent would be familiar to him so far from his previous home he then realised that it was only because he shared something in common with Junai. "Are you part of the Swift River Pack?" He asked curiously.

Bright eyes watched the male curiously, even in the night he could sense his sorrow, as he was sure the other could sense his. In Indru's case it was almost seemed like something that clung to him, weighing down on his shoulders and helping gravity to force him to submit and lie on the earth. Mourning had not truly been something Indru had been giving a chance to do, he felt it his responsibility to take on the role of head of the family, a job he had been only too happy to allow his father and uncle to continue occupying. So it was with a strength and courage he felt he did not have he pushed against his sorrow and managed to lead his pack and protect his family.

At this male's reply Indru nodded in understanding, aren't we all? He answered sadly, his eyes moving from the male to gaze at his paws thoughtfully. The question the male now asked of him put Indru on the guard slightly, and just briefly he felt his hackles bristle, though he doubted it was enough for the other to notice. He took a moment, pondering his family, before deciding this wolf must of met one of them and therefore the scent was familiar. Yes, he started, giving the wolf his full attention once again. I am Indru Tainn. I lead the pack. Taking a step closer — all the better to see this wolf — he waited for his reaction. You met a sibling of mine, then? As he doubted it was Honijo who would speak openly about the pack.

OUR HOPES AND EXPECTATIONS
BLACK HOLES AND REVELATIONS

He had expected such a question to catch the attention of this other male. Junai seemed to have described her family, her pack as a very close group and so it was only natural that he would be a little defensive. How would a stranger like Weldering have known about Swift River, the scent of the pack? Unsurprising it was all innocently gathered information. "Indru, yes. She mentioned you..." He muttered before realising this was not quite the time for self mutterings. "Junai I mean!" He quickly added with a grin and also a light nod of his maw. Though the single nod alone was the only movement he made as he thought back to the other day to try to remember if she had mentioned anything else other then Indru's name. Nothing came to mind.

"Your little sister I presume?" He asked noticing that they both shared the same surnames. Though that did not always mean siblings when she could have just as easily been his cousin. "We met by the creek the other day."

Ahaha, sorry for Indru being all fatherly. :P XD I love Weldering. ;;

The wolf seemed to know more information than just the pack's name, he recognised his own name when Indru had spoken it, a fact he was not sure he was fully happy with. After all, this stranger was.. well, a stranger, and who new his true motives yet. He remained silent as he continued to talk, but nodded unsurprised when the culprit who had been chattering was named. Ah Junai... Hm, I should have known. He chuckled slightly to cover up the tinge of annoyance which he now felt, curious as to how much she had been sharing. He knew she was young, but it was important she learned to keep pack's secretive, it was hard for a lone wolf to know their full numbers after all, as it would be useful knowledge if a challenged as intended.

Yes. I am one of her oldest siblings. His tone perhaps held a bit of a fatherly threat, aware that his sister was now of an adult age (in some cases) and this lone male could be a Don Juan with a string of children for all he knew. She is only a yearling, with much to learn. He tagged on, watching this other curiously, flicking his tail behind him idly as he thought over a few phrases he may be speaking to Junai later. At the creek you met? What did you do there? The boy pressed, still giving this male his full attention and watching carefully for his reactions. Indru always felt he was a good judge of character, and more importantly good at detecting lies.

BLACK HOLES AND REVELATIONS

The cover up chuckle that Indru uttered was quite effective as Weldering settled as though felting what minimal tension there was before diminish. Little did the young male actually realise that now Indru was truthfully more defensive then ever. Would Indru even be standing there so calmly if he actually knew that Junai had inadvertently given him their pack numbers as well? Well there were not exact yet he had a rough idea on their pack size from this statement alone.. 'I still have Indru and Ruiko and Niija and Ioni and some of the others.' With herself included that made five that he was sure of and knew the names and then she mentioned a few others, maybe not as important roles within the family or pack yet he would estimate their numbers to be about ten.

Swift River was fortunate however, while Weldering may have had strong intentions to challenge for a pack in the past that he had underlining reasons for. He would like to think that he had enough of a sense of moral to know right from wrong and the thought of trying to run the leaders of Swift River out of their abode had not even occurred to him, even now he still had never thought about it. Actually right at that very moment all Weldering could feel was a sinking sensation as it suddenly dawned on him that in a very fatherly or older protective brother type of way this Alpha was now asking him what he had been doing with his little sister.

He was completely innocent though the look of worry across his maw could have easily turned him into a culprit. The reason why there was such a pause and no immediate answer was because in his situation the truth was not as pretty as he would have liked. He could not actually tell this guy that he was bathing and that his sweet innocent little yearling sister had been watching him. Oh no. "Umm nothing." He muttered with a roll of his shoulders, eyes glancing off into the forest to the side. It was only then his ears perked upward realising that saying they had been doing nothing sounded more sinful then if he had said he was bathing in the first place! "I mean not nothing but like. Um just chatting.. y'know?" An awkward grin pressed into his sleek maw.

Indru Tainn

The Tainn male did not miss the sudden look of concern that crossed the lone wolf's face at his question, and instantly his body stiffened with tension, his eyes narrowing as he watched the wolf infrotn of him. His answer, however, just made Indru doubt his innocence more! Nothing, well he was sure that was likely, only logic of her age and the season stopping him from imagining he'd find puppies outside his den when he returned home. He was about to speak, threatening, harsh words already leaping to his mouth, ready to shoot out backed up by a growl to send chills down this.. ruffian's spine, hopefully with his teeth soon to follow, before he spoke again. When he finished Indru let the silence hang, breathing steadily to calm himself, his claws scratching in the dirt as kept his icy stare on this male.

Y'know what? He began, mocking the other's 'harmless' tag on question. I don't know. The growl that was barely concealed vibrated Indru's chest, more as a rumble he couldn't control than a growl at the moment, but ready to spring into action when it was needed. Maybe you'd like to explain. It was not a question, and certainly not an offer that this wolf had a choice to refuse at the minute, so intent was Indru's gaze. He body just rung with tension, his muscles ready to pounce and he teeth ready to tear. His sister! Just barely a yearling.. just barely an adult. There should be laws against this kind of thing.

OUR HOPES AND EXPECTATIONS
BLACK HOLES AND REVELATIONS

Weldering was no spineless rat, he was an ex-Beta and Lead Warrior so why was he allowing this other male to shout out and growl at him whilst flailing all these false accusations? The problem was that Weldering was so engrossed with trying to prove his innocence that he had not even stopped to think about his own self respect or dignity right now. Actually the last thing he had on his mind was to try and defend himself using any form of aggression because firstly that would only dig his unintended hole deeper and secondly this was Junai's brother and he had no intention of making the first wolf nice enough to actually talk to him his enemy along with her entire family, Indru included. A whole pack vs a single lone wolf? It did not matter what skills or knowledge he had in battle when simple mathematics could deduct the outcome of a ten vs one. Let's just say it did not look pretty for the one. But all of this drama and shouting, it was for nothing!

Now for the real explanation, but where to start? "We really didn't do anything. We were just chatting and stuff..." Wait Welde why did you say chatting and stuff? Why did you add stuff to the end of that sentence?! Panic stricken even more then before he could feel his chest tightening shuffling backwards away from the edge of the boulder to place a little more room between himself an Indru when suddenly he felt rather lightheaded followed by a painful throbbing of his back.

Wait Weldering... have you just fallen off the back of the boulder? He blinked slowly as the stars above filled his eyes yet around him either side were large green bushes and no sight of Indru just yet. Was this maybe a good time to slink away, he did not really want to hear anymore of these wild accusations about himself and he also had a bad feeling that if he did stay he would only finish digging his grave. With this in mind he quietly scuttled off through the bushes seeking away from the Jasper Rocks.

Indru Tainn

Still angry and distrusting, but not completely illogical Indru allowed the boy to speak, to try and get himself of his own grave that he seemed to just enjoy digging. Thoughts of his poor innocent sister (something of which Junai was not at all) having her virtue viciously stolen by some charismatic words from the next Romeo was certainly a thought Indru would be happy to lose. He was somewhat begrudgingly willing to consider the possibility that they had just talked until he heard the 'and stuff', stuff could mean anything after all! Stuff could mean a lot of things!

'And stuff?! He roared, rising up from his seating position and stalking forward, giving Weldering a look he would give a rabbit. What stuff exactly, boy? He asked, his tone dangerous and his eyes deadly, if only looks could kill it would save Indru the effort. Beginning to hate the word 'stuff' and all its implications Indru waited, watching him back up.. and up.. until he disappeared completely. Idiot, he thought, without an ounce of sympathy. After a few moments of the wolf not reappearing Indru's eyes narrowed suspiciously again before a happy thought ran though his mind, perhaps he's dead! Peering round the boulder to investigate he found it empty, the wolf vanished. He took a step forward, half tempted to run after him before he decided that no, first, he would have a little talk with Junai.
