Tlarx Everfall
It was cooler up here, and that is the way he liked it. The man had recently entered the lore, and immediatly took to the mountains- what he was most familiar with. He had scowered the area for a densite, and found a small outcrop of rock that formed a small cave due to other jagged rocks surrounding it. He could get used to it up here. Tlarx slipped out from the rocks, white-gray pelt catching the sunlight. Deep brown eyes scanned across the mountain, then dropped down below. He stood like a statue, observing the wilderness, wondering what was down here. With a grunt, he turned, beginning to pad along the hard surfaces of the stones to look for food.

A harsh wind blew, rustling the black furs upon his back. Face stoic an unmoved, he continued onward, nose taking in the scents around him. Within minutes, a pungent odor entered his nostrils, and he flinched. A free meal. With a flick of his thick tail, the large man began to lope forth, mouth parting to get a better scent of the air. He could taste it. Goat. He was familiar with the creature, for his old pack would hunt several of the stout beasts. Small ears flickering, the wolf released a woof of pleasure as he happened upon the half eaten corpse. Cautiously, Tlarx stopped, eyeing his surroundings. The way the goat was torn seemed to signify that it was slaughtered by a cougar. Pathetic big cats they were. With a roll of his eyes, he slinked forward, approaching the corpse.

Jaws parted as a pink tongue yearned to come forth. He began to salivate- food had not met his stomach for two days. He was a creature of thick muscle, therefore needing a lot of food to function. Lowering his head greedily, fangs began to tear at the flesh, savoring the gamey meat. Although it seemed to be a day old, Tlarx appreciated the meal. Eating his fill, he raised his head, sighing in satisfaction.

The harsh wind whipped through the long fur of the white lady as she stood upon a rather high rock ledge, overlooking the lore. Fiery amber eyes scanned the land below, observing everything that was in her sights. The forest was green and leafy again, unlike the bareness winter had on them. The mountain breathed beneath her paws as she began to make her decent back down to her home. Her new family would be waiting. The family that she pledged her loyalty and protection. The family that she would do anything for and she hoped they would do the same. However, today her family would not be able to help her. She might just have to rely on a complete stranger.

White paws moved swiftly down the mountainside as her black nostrils and pointed ears were on high alert. An overpowering smell soon filled her nose and her nose wrinkled in protest. A rotting carcass was nearby, about a quarter of a mile away. With a lot experiences with this type of prey, she knew immediately it had to be a goat. Such a hard animal to catch and she could not pass a free goat up. Moving quicker now, she rounded a sharp corner as a loud sibilant ripped through the air. Whipping her head towards the noise, her eyes located a large cougar staring down at her from a rock ledge. She instantly went into a defensive position, getting ready for the male cougar to jump at her.

Not knowing what set the cougar off, she tried moving backwards, but felt open air as her paw went off the edge. The only safe places were where she came from which as a narrow pass and the other was a small cavern underneath the prowling cougar. The cavern looked too small for the large cat to get into, but her small size could easily fit through. She snarled at the cougar, trying to get him to back away, but he kept coming towards her. The mangy cat blocked her escape down the pass now. Her options were beginning to run out and the only place that she thought would be safe was the cavern. If the cavern was one of the few that had many passages running through the mountain, she could perhaps make it to the cave. Taking her chances, she began to sprint forward, but she was a second too late. The cougar launched itself at her and Athena could only hope that they did not fall off the edge, or someone was close enough to save her.

Tlarx Everfall
Tlarx stood in the silence of the mountains, closing his ears and lifting his head as the wind blew once more. As he was enjoying his moment of peace, there was suddenly a feline sibilant that brought him back. Blinking, he snorted, knowing instantly what it was- but where was it? The cougar sounded as if it were attacking. With his eyes narrowing, Tlarx bounded forth on a full stomach, small ears forward and intent. Within a few moments he stumbled upon an interesting scene. The cougar was large...and pissed. It bared its fangs towards another wolf. Tlarx's eyes fell upon the female- she was quite lovely to look at.

The cat's muscles bunched together, and Tlarx sprang forward in response. An intimidating snarl erupted from him throat as he threw himself at the feline. Jaws widening, he was on the puma's tail as it went to attack Athena. Feeling his body in the air, the gray-white male felt as if time had slowed. His heart pounded mercilessly in his chest; adrenaline pumping throughout his body. Contact. The large male slammed into the side of the cougar, casting it away from the admirable female. The cat's ears flattened against its head as he scrambled up onto its paws, eyes narrowing at the arctic man as it crept forward.

Chest puffing outward and tail raising, the thickly muscled wolf leaped forward, fear not apparent within his heart. He growled savagely, inky lips pulled back as he exposed his fangs. The cat began to slink around towards his flank, and with that, Tlarx spun around. He snapped at the cougar, walking towards it as he did so. Seeming to be surprised by the bravery of the wolf, the cougar emitted a dissatisfied hiss before turning on heel. It quickly took to its kill, where it looked to the wolves with hatred in its eyes. Go ahead, have your damn goat, Tlarx thought, teeth still flashing at the cat. He watched as the creature gripped onto the hind leg of what remained of the corpse and began to drag it down the side of the mountain, away from the two wolves. The man now turned to Athena, gazing at her with dark chocolate eyes.

It seemed as if time had slowed down to take in every detail, every sound, every smell that this endless moment had. The angry ferocity in the cougar’s eyes that where pinned on the white lady. The sound of the cougar’s claws scraping against the rock surface. Even the reeking cat breath was noticed in this eternal moment. Her ears flattened against her head as the cougar got closer. She was waiting, desperately wanting this endless second to get over with. She wondered who would miss her. Rhysis, Naira, Ava, maybe Chantille and Vafri. Swift River would probably be happy that she was gone, probably Nina would rejoice as well.

As she thought her world was about to end with a wild and deadly tumble down the mountainside, the tables turned in her favor. Just as the cougar was in swatting distance, a large wolf appeared in her line of vision, colliding with the cougar. As the two tangled with each other in the air, her heart almost skipped a beat as she realized today was not her day to die. The white man got back on his feet quickly as did the cougar and a showdown was in store. Both males prowled in separate directions, sizing up each other as Athena stood helplessly, but safely away. The cougar must have seen this as a worthless fight and scampered off, but collecting its kill on the way out. Athena stared it down viciously; making sure her silent threats could be scene in her eyes when the lion looked back one more time at her.

The man then turned back to her and fiery amber eyes met his chocolate ones. She had no idea how to start thanking him for saving her life, but she thought she should start it out somewhere. ”Wow, uh…thanks.” She said quietly. She could not exactly believe what happened, it happened too fast for her to think clearly. She looked down momentarily to collect her thoughts. Right now was not the time to make a fool of herself before this man that deserved more than just a thank you. Looking back up, she continued, ”I don’t know exactly how to repay you…” She trailed off, not knowing what to say to him. Instead, she gave him a once over. Thick muscle rippled through his white arctic fur, his black tipped back was unusual, but unique. Not bad looking in the face, but Athena would keep that to herself.

Tlarx Everfall
Tlarx continued to look at Athena as she spoke. An angel of white lace, she must have flown down on feathery white wings upon the mountain. Blinking, he shook his head to her. "No need to repay. Just didn't want to see a pretty little lady such as yourself getting hurt." With these words, the man smiled politely, dipping his head towards her. He supposed that she too picked up the odor of the goat's corpse and went to investigate, but was interfered by the angry cougar. He inspected her briefly, taking in her scent as he looked back to her amber eyes.

"I'm Tlarx." He said smoothly, flicking his tail. Continuing to take in her scent, Tlarx could detect the odor of other wolves. Perhaps she belonged in a pack. Oh, if she did, they would be ecstatic that he had saved her life. Keeping a grin to himself, he turned his head to where the cougar had disappeared. As he looked towards the area, he waited for the small woman to reply. She may not be willing to give her name, and he would not mind such....he didn't save her life or anything. Sarcasm was not to roll out onto his tongue, so he remained quiet to hear the woman speak once more.

It had been awhile since Tlarx heard a feminine voice, so once she spoke, her voice was like velvet. It was a variety of notes, forming a pleasant song in his small rounded ears. Had it been that long since he had run into other wolves?

As his words rolled off his tongue, she almost wanted to roll her eyes. So typical these days. Hormone-driven men, Valiant, now this guy. However, maybe he was just being nice. He was not exactly drooling like a mangy mutt being taunted by a giant bone. Nevertheless, Athena would still give him a chance, before she deems him a complete idiot. That is the least she could do. He was the one that had saved her hide from being mauled by that cat. The male gave her a polite dip of his head and she returned it with a soft smile on her ebon lips.

He then introduced himself and being polite like she was, she introduced herself as well. ”Athena Moon.” However, she would usually state her rank and pack, but regulations forbade her so. She would not be breaking a valuable rule that was in place to save her hide too. That would be idiotic to do. She did not exactly know whom this male was, but he at least did not smell like any of the nearby packs. He actually smelled quite new to the area. The cedarwood forest, sacred grove, and secluded springs did not appear in his scent. A sigh of relieve escaped her and she began to warm up to her savor.

”So, where are you from?” She asked foolishly. This question might come back and bite her in the ass. He would most likely want to know something about her, but being one to not give information out, she did not like deep questions. Stupid, stupid, stupid… Her face flickered from calm to panic in a split second after asking the question, but she quickly recovered and prayed Tlarx did not noticed.

Athena. Tlarx repeated her name in his head as she introduced herself. After she had asked where he was from, the man picked up an odd facial expression on the woman, which could only be noted as panic. Brows furrowed for a second before he shook it off; he would not ask why she had looked that way. "Northwest of here. Just wanted something new." He was blunt with what he said, for he did not feel like going into details. Besides, to him, his history was non too much of an exciting tale. And so, not bothering to burden her ears with his memoirs, he walked past her towards the edge of the mountain.

"I just got here." He stated, turning his head slightly just so he could see the woman out of the corner of his right eye. Peering back towards the lands below, he observed a hawk that hovered high in the sky, riding the turbulent winds. "I prefer the mountains. Never have been much of a forest wolf..." With this, his deep voice trailed off, and he seated himself. Fluffy white-gray tail flicked before resting beside his left haunch. He would not ask her any questions about himself; he did not want to seem nosy. If she wanted to speak, she would do so for herself. As for why he had trailed off whilst speaking- well, he did not want to talk the woman's ear off, now, did he?

Huh, so possibly he could be an ocean wolf like herself. How interesting. In all her time here in Relic Lore, she had not met anyone that was from where she originated. They either did not say where they were from or they were from somewhere south or east, nobody came from the west. ”Were you a Rocky Mountain wolf too?” She asked with excitement in her velvety voice. For some reason, she was actually happy that someone grew up close to where she did, even if he did not reside in the Rockies, it still count for her.

She turned following him with her eyes as he glided past her to sit down by the edge of the cliff. She looked back to where the cougar once was, doing away with any suspicion that the beast was back again. Turning back around, she walked towards the gray and black man and sat down next to him. The opposite sizes may have been a funny sight to see, but at the moment, she did not care.

He confirmed her assumption of him being new and he liked the mountains just as she did. How cute. Looking at him with a smile upon her face, ”My mother used to say, ‘Forests are for cowards. Only a strong-hearted wolf could stand upon a giant rock and proclaim to the world that they are the true king and queens of the earth.’” She said, laughing quietly to herself. It soon died away and she looked back out across the landscape below, wishing her mother were here with her. Way to spoil the mood.

Tlarx almost grinned as Athena parked her rump next to him. Oh my, quite the size difference- it was comical, yet cute. His ears flickered at the words "Rocky Mountain". Feeling his tail automatically wag, he craned his head towards her, nodding. "Yes, I was. I must admit, I do miss it quite a bit." Honesty intertwined throughout his voice as his brown eyes looked at her. The white wolves- the purest- descended from the rough mountains. Almost as if they were a gift. Looking at the forest, he found himself bobbing his head along in agreement to Athena's words from her mother.

"Smart woman. I could not agree more." A toothy grin now pulled at him, forcing his ebon lips to rise up a bit. The laugh that the little white wolf released made his mood lighten- damn. It seemed like he had not laughed in what seemed like forever. In fact, it seemed as if there was a lot that had not occurred to him in what felt like ages. Almost sighing, he bit his tongue, holding back his words of solitude. Who would want to listen to that?

"Were you looking for food?" He asked, still looking at the land of the lore below. He figured she had; that the scent of the goat attracted her. For some reason, Tlarx felt slightly responsible for the cougar going after her. It should have been him that it tried to attack. Oh well. He mindlessly risked his own life for hers, and he knew she appreciated it.

Athena Moon

Her grin was increasingly getting wider with every word Tlarx said. She could already tell that she will get right along with him. Their conversation already was pleasant, but not too deep. Which was perfectly fine with her at the moment. She always hated when wolves wanted to know your whole life story. That was not the way she rolled. A couple comments here and there were fine, just not anything, which pertained to her birth family. That would just make Athena torn on her heel and walk away. However, Tlarx was doing just fine with making the conversation light and polite. Just the way Athena liked ‘em.

A velvety laugh rang through the space between them when the man commented on her mother’s smarts. Oh, how she loved thinking she got her mother’s genes. However, her mother was not logical like she was. Yes, her mother was smart, but she always dreamed that life was just a fairy tale and there were not any horrible creatures in her world. However, in actuality, Athena got her father’s brains. He was logical and cunning. He could kill a wolf in front of someone and he could convince them that they were seeing things and it was not him that did it. He was that good.

She shrugged when he mentioned food. ”Not really. I was just curious,” she told him. She really was just curious and it could have been a possibility that she could bring home a free goat. It would have made Ava’s job easier with hunting, so why would she want to pass that up. Nevertheless, if he wanted to hunt, she would agree and participate. Maybe, she could get another free meal. Who knows?
