Willow Ridge the void

RE: The world goes dark for twenty-four hours. The sun does not rise and the stars and moon do not shine.

Darkness hung over the world, so thick, it was like a smog - blinding, heavy with woe and ill intent. The thought caused the hairs along Elettra's spine to prickle, though in the heart of her home she remained at ease. Her muscles were lax though her heart fluttered with weary curiosity. In all her life, nothing like this had become of the world. Though by now, the sun should have risen for a new day, it did not. The sun slept in far longer then it should and the moon prior had not crest the sky to guide the night creatures. Not even a single star twinkled and all the world was utterly black. She sensed it. The sense of dread and fear over every little scurrying creature within the Drooping Willows, and the dark woman remained still in her placement. In this lack of color, she was pitch, no highlights of silvers or undertones of gold she might have otherwise processed. Stilled was she, her thick hips turned down in a sit, her back to one of the large, old willowed trees, its dying leaves curled down to the world in a protective cover over her. She is silenced in this wonder, only to listen to the small sounds of rodent and bat, bird and reptile whom were as uncertain as she. "...And so the gods stretched forth thine hands to the heaven, that there may be darkness over the land, even darkness which may be felt." The words slip from her lips, parted towards the skies with question of what may come.

The moon had not made an appearance and not a single star had twinkled in the black night sky. Although he awoke from a restless sleep, he knew that hours had passed and the sun should be cresting the horizon soon. And yet... nothing. Just continued blackness that went on and on.

His brows furrowed deeply with the anomoly. He was a wolf that was remarkably adaptable, but this was so far from the norm that it sent shivers down his spine. The need to be near others of his family was strong. His keen nose twitched as he scented the inky blackness all around him. His eyes told him nothing, but his sense of smell soon detected that of his partner, his Lady. Yes, together they would get through this strangeness.

Her distinct perfume led him unerringly through the darkness. His movements were sure, but slow as he moved, careful to avoid unseen trees and bushes. Before long her trail strengthened and he knew that he was close. "Elettra? Where are you in this strange blackness?" He knew that he was close, but he didn't want to plow into her, so he paused, awaiting her reply.

His scent danced into her nose where her eyes could not seek, even eyes as powerful as a wolf. He was coming, closer and closer. His feet scrunched on the dead leaves which had formed here or blown in from the Wildwood and Cedar forest, those all which led the signs of an ending autumn and a beginning winter. His breath was heavier, as her own, with the weariness, the wonder, and for her, at least, the excitement of the unknown. When he speaks, she breaths in deeply once more. She has her hearing and her scent about her, if not her sight. "I am here..." She breaths out delicately into the thick of the dark day. "Over here." She beckons him further, if only that he may follow her by her voice. She remains seated, though her head leads forward, her muzzle twitching, searching for him.

He was not afraid exactly, but he was anxious with this darkness when the sun should have been brightly lighting the morning sky. Instead, his keen eyes were useless and that feeling was definitely unnerving. No one liked to be deprived of a key sense, one that could keep you alive in the face of the unknown.

When her voice finally came, he smiled in the darkness and relaxes a bit more. The hint of excitement in her voice is contagious and suddenly the empty darkness around him seemed more like an adventure. Her confident voice lead him the final few feet and he approached slowly. His pale muzzle swung gently from side to side, 'feeling' for her and finally felt her own muzzle brush against his. With an unseen smile he said with a laugh, "Elettra, it's good to see you!" and he bumped her cheek almost playfully. For whatever reason, he suddenly felt like a pup experiencing something strange and new for the first time and the shivers that had followed him finally dissipated.

His touch came to her, causing her body to tense, though her muzzle did not move from the length of his own, a wiry smile forming over her lips, secret in this darkness. She would smile as she pleased, her affections unseen by any in the world on this dark day. His muzzle brushes the length of her cheek then and her tail thumps the ground as a sign of happiness. It was this subtle hints of a wave of her tail, of an allowance to be embraced and a small smile which allowed those within her pack to know she was comfortable amongst them; trusting of them. So few however, had the capability to understand these small signs, to leave the woman an image of something harder, colder, and more cruel then she truly was. She was a wild animal, a woman scorned, but she was very much woman and mortal, all of which were filled with deep secrets and much emotion, be it good or bad.
"More or less." She comments on him actually 'seeing' her, a smirk forming over her lips further more, a dark chuckle even escaping her. His cheek, so closely aligned at her own, she reaches for, offering a nip in play as she stood, moving past him in a few strides, to which her tail would pat at his thigh as she waved it back and forth, to remain contact with him where they could not see one another. "Perhaps the Sun God grows weary this morning....tired, angered, perhaps...." She muses, her head turning to the skies but in all this darkness, could see nothing. Still no sun, nor even the moon should it have stayed for this still darkness, nor a star at all to guide their path. Though she practiced not the religion of her home, she offered a bit of this questioning to Koda, whilst she wondered aloud on what was happening.

He could sense her ease and she gave him an affectionate nip, which he gently returned, wagging his own tail softly in the void of nothingness. Despite the darkness where there should have been the warming sun, Koda felt at ease with her as they greeted one another. He smiled at her chuckle of appreciation of his greeting.

She spoke of the Sun God perhaps being tired or angry. He had not grown up in such a religion. In fact, his pack had not followed any particular belief aside from loyalty, honor and survival. He was intrigued though. They'd had little time to actually get to know one another since the founding of the pack and now would be as good a time as any to learn a bit more about one another.

Their fur touched lightly in the darkness, a replacement for looking at each other as that was obviously not possible. "I'm not familiar with your Sun God, but if there is such a thing, I hope that he's in a better state soon!" His tone was lighthearted, but also questioning. "Tell me about him." There was little else to do and his curiosity was definitely piqued.

Touch was certainly not something Elettra allowed freely or lightly, even when allowed. She was a princess in her former home, made of royal caliber and precise upbringing. No one touched royalty lest you be royalty or lest you be licking at their paws. It was a matter which took her much time to understand after leaving the country of Torbine and still something she had yet to become fully comfortable with. Though here in this darkness, she held no need to wear a fake mask. She held no need to hide herself behind a cold, hard shell with a blackened veil. Her emotions shown on her face, be it happy, excited or pained. With only Mother Nature to see her now, the darkness had made her free.
Her body eased further, her limbs swaying under the lush curves of her being, her tail tip swishing to and fro at Koda's side. When he speaks it is with question and interest. He is as happy, level-headed, kind-hearten and good as he had been the first time he met, which was why Elettra ended up choosing him to be at her side when else failed with her attempt as swaying the once high-held king of the Mountain tops. Little did anyone bother to ask of her interests, her past, her beliefs and her home and little did she bother to offer it to anyone else. In much honesty, little was known of Elettra's history to the members of her pack, as little did she know of their own. Privacy was something she enjoyed holding and so this is what she offered to them in return. She knew not Kyrie's lost litter. Shades abusive father. Phineas' cheating wife with his best man. Remy's family murdered by humans, nor the fact that Koda's pack land had been wiped out by a wildfire.
He asked her. Little ever had and with this, she answered, offering him only what she was willing and what she felt comfortable with. This information was far from the betrayal and rape of her loved one, the loss of her children, the murder of her brother... She answered freely. "From what I know... His personal is as wild as the fire which makes the essence of the sun. His personality dangerous, daring and ill-tempered. A very opposite of his sister Moon, pregnant with much beauty and liquid tranquility. A different side to the same coin, their differed personalities spark much heated discussion if not worse..." She speaks this as her eyes flutter to a closing, breathing in slow and deep. Not the Moon and her star children show, nor the Sun, surely by a battle of wills of some sorts. Whom may cave by their arrival firstly?

Surely any normal wolf would be panicking at the eerie turn of events. His ears swivel with heightened hearing in the pitch black, but heard no others. There was nothing and no one, save he and Elettra speaking into nothingness.

He sensed more than felt her lithe body move in the darkness, her tail flicking by his side. She considered his question and gave her best explanation. The Sun God was wild and unpredictable, it seemed, while his Sister Moon was calm and peaceful. It appeared that the two might be in conflict, explaining the lack of bright sunlight or starlight for that matter. He wasn't sure what he thought of these gods, Sun and Moon, but he had no explanation for the unexplainable. Perhaps there was something to them.

It was the 'if not worse' part that worried him. With furrowed brows, he looked in her directions and asked, "You don't think that this will last, do you?" He didn't feel in his heart that it would, but this was the first time that he had even allowed himself to think farther than the immediate present.

His question stirred her further, causing her to open her pale, grey eyes to yet nothingness - black, black and thick to which she felt as though it weighed down upon her, prickling at her backside. She was stilled, for moments, only the sound of both Koda's breath and her own stirring the silence that hung in the air. What could she say? She had reason to believe that it would not last, though she was only mortal in comparison and could not possibly understand all of what all the gods could do, or what they would do. Religion was something which little paid much attention too back home, where much of their concentration lie in battle. Though everyone was made to at least know of them and respect them for who they were and more importantly, what they could do to them. "I do not think so... The world needs balance, and the gods honor and respect this." She speaks words to Koda, which were a memory to her past. The words of a priestess when Elettra in her youth, wondered when the drought of summer may end which had seemingly felt endless in her youth at the time. Elettra enjoyed the cooling weather, after all.

Koda nodded into the darkness, eased by her words. If Gods were indeed in charge of their fates, it made sense that there would be a push and pull among them, just as it was with the creatures that inhabited the earth beneath his paws. "Balance, yes. That makes sense," he agreed a bit distractedly as he considered her words. This darkness would come to an end, eventually and in the mean time, he dallied near his midnight partner in relative relaxation considering the incredible circumstances for their impromptu encounter. Since the time that they had met and then agreed to be partners in leadership, all had been about business and Elettra took the matter of leadership more seriously in her manner and actions than any other wolf that he had met. Perhaps because she truly felt that she could count on no one but herself to hold it all together.

He wished that he could see her face at that moment, for he could tell in her tone that she had let her mask of iron slip a bit on this pitch black morning. He wondered what her demeanor would show when she wasn't all business. Then he thought better of it. He knew his regal Lady and even had come to love her in a manner. Not romantically, of course. But her pride and her strength called to him. He had learned to love her toughness and to even lean on it. He was more soft-hearted that just about any leader that he'd ever known and she tempered that, making them a formidable team, indeed. For this brief moment in time, he could forget that his heart yearned for another and just enjoy being with his partner as they waited for the darkness to end.
