The mirrored surface of the lake shone under the subtle moonlight as the chilled breeze whipped through the towering cedars nearby. She hadn't spent much time in this area, and the peaceful lagoon, which she had stumbled by on sunset was a mark of just how far she had come. She had seen it before, from the heights of Dire Mountain, but she had never seen it so close. Perhaps this would have been a better body of water to settle by?

No. She loved her mountain home. The real purpose for coming down from the lofty heights had been to seek the one she had promised to find, and hopefully catch some scent of Rhysis. But she couldn't bring herself to approach the Sacred Grove, for it was indeed, sacred, and she had wronged the River queen. It would only add insult to injury to go tainting their home with her scent.

And so she had trekked, across the fireweed rise, with vibrant flowers about her paws, and across the whispering grass of the hush meadow to here. To the perfectly serene lagoon, bordered by towering trees and swaying willows. The quiet was far from unnatural, the white noise of crickets and other bugs deafening, yet soothing all at the same time. Perfume wafted from rapidly wilting flowers and shrubs, as the flora surrendered to the gathering cold. Melancholy overrode her as she realised this was a night for lovers, and hers was lost... It seemed no matter how hard she searched he eluded her.

With a heartbroken sigh, she lowered herself amongst the rushes and she stared at the stars reflected on the unbroken surface of the lake and allowed her thoughts to drift. What would become of her?

There was no where safe really. His heart was in too many places, and remembered to well the joy, sorrow, and pain. It was hard not to find a place untouched by memories, but he desperately sought one. Relic Lore was too big not to find some where away from it all, where there was just earth and sky. While his dark paws dropped and rose they began to lead him to the place that would not be bittersweet. The lagoon, a place he had met a stranger, and fell into the waves to like now...forget his troubles. Yes, the dark cloaked wolf made his course for the lagoon. It was one bit of water that was not poisoned by ghosts.

The darkness started to fall, and all the better for Triell. He was in no want nor need of sleep. He had every intention of seeing the sun rise, and than slink back to the River to ease this exhaustion. One sunrise, yes he had not watched it rise above the blue water, and it would be a sight worth seeing. Maybe, he half hoped to meet another stranger to steal his gloom away. Or better kill it.

Golden eyes pulled to the silver light that seemed the norm of night. He knew better than to get to absorbed in himself, far from the river and aware he had to keep ready to see night creatures he may not want to meet. So far it was only him. Triell, all alone again..forever. What a frown he wore by that thought, but it was probably true. He wasn't sure he had room enough for any else in his heart, too many come in, and took it with them when they left. What was he to give someone else? There was nothing, everything was for the remains of his family, even if he was afraid of them leaving him too. A short snap of his teeth he scolded himself, and his dark thoughts. Ice was right, he was just a dark rain cloud. Triell was alone, and he could play that part. Yes, he could. Why did it have to be so easy?

The curtains of willows came into view and his eyes stared suspiciously at what they may hide, but his nose, his ears told him there was nothing. Well except the creepy crawlers, and those did not affect his mood. They were harmless, and winter would silence them soon enough. All he cared about was the serenity he was beginning to feel. He was so close to the water he could see the sky shining upon it like a grand mirror, and his heart for once felt light. Or for a bleak moment when he did not see the lonely shadow on the shore. He was very close to turning way, but something pushed him onward, his nostrils seeking for the scent. It was Naira, and she was much farther from home than him. Or had Athena not even let her back? He hated to guess even if he thought he could sense that mountain perfume. He would be stuck with another problem. The Tainn did not know how to approach her. He could surely be eaten away in the black of the fallen evening, but his paws tugged him along. They seemed to remind him how he had once not been so anxious, and he would have moved without thought. He attempted to go to her without his thoughts ahead of his feet. It was weird, he felt somewhat giddy, drawing up behind her in a great surprise, and when her ruffled coat was in his reach he dovetailed around her. He should have known she could rip part of his face, but he was behind her part to her side, and he was the one ready.

Her wandering mind would be the death of her one day, but tonight, it was not to be. She drifted with the small dragonfly that hovered just above the surface of the water not daring to touch the magic mirror, and break its serene surface. For a moment, she was sure she must be dreaming. The comfortable warmth of another wrapped around her. The safety and the peaceful perfection... But when she finally came to her senses and the scent of the River washed over her she stiffened, jerking around with fangs exposed to spot the dark fur and fiery eyes of the only wolf who wore that scent that she would not dare to fear.

Her heart was thundering in her throat, but she could not help but laugh with relief and lean back comfortably into the wolf that had surprised her so. Mischief danced in her golden eyes as she tilted her head back and licked the muzzle of her surprise attacker. "You almost gave me a heart attack!" she accused merrily, her tail thumping heavily against what she expected to be ground but could have quite possibly been Triell's dark leg. There was a darkness about him that had not been there when they first met. A weight that she longed to see lifted, but she didn't know how to help him. Their last encounter had been all about her worries and her problems. It seemed most of their encounters were heavily weighted in her favour.

Tonight was her chance to give back.

"What brings you so far from home?" The surprise attack had awoken in her a sense of playfulness she had long since thought lost, and it carried in her tone. On a night as magical as this, she would not let the worries of the world weigh them down.

Unexpectedly he hovered there for short time, and he had to stifle back a laugh with his wry grin. Swiftly if to realize he was real she twirled around ready to fight. The Tainn's grin stretched more broadly at the sight of her face. He too those was relieved to hear a laugh escape her throat. His own deep yet merry tone rumbled in his chest in tune with hers. He figured for her to still pounce on him, she leaned back, and he let her do so. Feeling as if this was the one thing he could do to comfort her. The fire in her own eyes, drew a quizzical look upon his dark mask. The muscles beneath his coat coiled, but all he was given was a wet lick. He only continued to laugh. "I would be sorry to have done so, but I didn't realize you were in la la land Naira," he teased, holding back the urge to nip her ear with the comment. Triell sensed no malice with the beat of her thick tail striking him. Or was that or way of hitting him for this?

The look upon her lightly masked face there was something, something he often did not like to see. When someone was reading him, much like Ice always did. The silver brute probably had a meter on now for dark Triell and his black clouded mind and soul. What had the Tainn done got around him, to meet another who would see through him. Well, he might as well tell her. With a fading smile, he first shrugged his shoulders, letting his eyes seek the dark water. His voice grew tired, a hint of his sorrow of how the abandonment had hit him. "To be honest to escape home. Indru has left us, and we have all vowed if we see him he will be lucky to remain alive. Right now I feel like I don't deserve to be there." That was the truth. Though he had not done anything wrong, he was too afraid he was his brother. He would some how let them down.

The smile slipped from her face as his words graced her ears. It was a surprise to her that Indru had returned at all, after all the whispers that this was not his first departure. She had arrived shortly after his last vanishing act, still catching scent of the lead male here and there, but she had left again before he had returned.

Her brows drew together in concern and her heart ached at the memory of the pain that had laced her own curse from the River Queen, and the thought of what sting would be behind whatever one she flung after Indru. How conveniently he had returned before the end of breeding season, only to up and vanish again. She could only assume there were cubs left behind. Just like hers.

She did not know of the missing younger Tainns, even so, her resolve was set. If the former River leader crossed her path, he would not be granted easy passage.

Her words were gentle, her face softening as her eyes fell back on her dear friend. "And how could you be not deserving? You who has never abandoned them, hmm? How many times has Indru come and gone, while you, and Ice and Marsh and Corinna have held it all together? How many other wolves have come and gone and yet still a pack stands in the Grove?" She counted herself among the deserters. Truly there were better ways to go about it. But she had lives to protect that night.

She slipped her muzzle under the dark wolf's chin, pressing upwards with the bridge of her nose. It was reassuring to be so close to him. To breath in a wolf she would trust with her life. If only they could stay like this forever, life could be so sweet. But for now, they were walking very different paths.

There was one reason Triell didn't like to talk too much. His mouth started sprouting weeds, and he hated sudden shifts in mood because of simple words. If Naira did not he would think her made of stone, when she surely was not. Or not to the core, and in Triell's presence. They had already fell to terms not to keep what was inside. Was he because they couldn't lie in each others presence or chose not to?

Eyes close briefly, merely to seal what his other senses were telling him; Naira's warm body, calm voice, and scent of the mountains he admired, and feared. Somewhere the lull of the water stroked his heart, and he could taste it's chill. If it were not for his new found entanglement it would have gave him goosebumps. Or did he have them?

Suppressing the urge to shudder, and pull himself tighter against her. He opened his bright eyes, letting them glimpse the earth, the edge of her paws. His head began to nod, knowing she was right...mostly. Silent for a couple heartbeats. "I left once. Corinna had just had the pups, there was Marsh, and quite a few others. I figured he was dead and I had to find him. He was more than a brother to me. It turns out everyone went looking for him, and Cori was alone trying to feed the pups. I still can't forgive myself for that, when I returned to find her in such a rough stae, and I could have been there to help." He let out a sigh, clamping his jaws not able to say more. There was too much that hammered in his heart. When she she found under his chin, he smiled though it was quite a pathetic one in comparison to his rest. He recalled how Ruiko,Kinis, and Volkan had joined. Then Indru had even come back, but then they had had a huge fight. His lip twitched at the thought, but drew into a grin."Ice says I'm a dark, gloomy cloud, but I think it's my heart's fault it's too big." He said, a ring of tease to his deep voice. "I'm just sick of being lonely."

She listened closely as he spoke, careful not to interrupt as she observed the places where their fur mashed together with a small smile, the way they fit together so well. But she was letting her imagination run away with her heart. Triell could never leave the River, and she could never rejoin. They were cursed to live in stolen moments such as this. She was sure of it.

She smiled though, at Ice’s description of her friend. It was easy to see how the pale wolf would come to such an assumption and the thought of his pale light nature in comparison to the more foreboding one of Triell (from what she could remember for she hadn’t seen Ice for almost a year) left her with the comical vision of two cloud wolves dancing across the sky, one light, one heavy and dark.

His last words were what tugged at her heart though. Loneliness was something she had grown accustomed to in the months that she was lost. Even with her son at her side, it wasn’t the same. It was without thought that her tongue snuck forth to begin to bath her friends forehead, gradually dipping to the side to nibble and groom behind his ears. Such simple gestures provided comfort in her experience and it was a far more sincere way to let her friend know that she was here for him. Always.

A warm beside his, was that all he wanted? At times, he would admit to himself it seemed a short cure for the longing his heart felt. No more father or mother, no more brothers(but one he did not know), no more Volkan. What did he have? A pack who was trying to stay together, but with broken hearts. Could they fit together to form a solid piece of their tattered edges? Could he heal Cori, Rissa, and Aiyana. It seemed too much at times to think of all to fix. Triell had to fix things and make it right. If he wasn't whole, how could? His heart was constantly broken and only repaired to be severed again. Who would want such a worn wolf not even yet three?

He hung onto the solid of warmth, feeling the pulse, and half wondering if this was another sad dream. He almost peered down, wanting to glimpse a piece of her tawny mask to get a taste of what was real. The child within him did not move his dark mask from the water, and when she stroked him he really was frozen in place. It was a small gesture that made him feel he was not alone, and it made a grin touch his cheeks. The Tainn was filled with an array of emotions he wasn't about to dive in to deep.

"You know I'm glad to see you again, but I wonder how are things for you?" Slowly he brought his eyes to hers, his gaze soft when he met her own pair of eyes to see the truth she couldn't hide either.

A small laugh left her lips at his question. Perhaps even laced with a little bitterness. If all had been fine would she find herself so far from home? Would she not be enjoying the last snow-free days with her children, perhaps teaching them to hunt or fight? But they did not know her. Nobody there seemed willing to take a chance on her. She hadn't chosen to leave last time. But this time she had. She needed to find Rhysis.

Perhaps a pang of guilt then, as she found herself so close to Triell, but she did not pull away. She needed this affirmation, not only of their friendship, but to prove she was still alive. She owed him an answer, but how to find the words?

"I find myself a stranger in my own pack." She answered simply, her heart hardening to prevent the whimpers that wanted to escape at the pain of it all. "My children do not know me, nor will they be told." It was perhaps this that twisted her soul the worst. There was little emotion to her tone, her eyes took on a vague glassiness as she focused on the reflection of the moon.

She was still coming to grips with it all. After she had tried so hard, and for so long, they treated her like something soiled. "They expect me to be content as lowest." She almost spat the word. She would make them pay for all they had left her to suffer. It was only a matter of time.

Awe, Naira. He had at one point believed she deserved this misery, bringing it upon herself for what she had done with Rhysis. He had not felt the same for Corinna. It wasn't her choices that had lead her to misery, it wasn't her fault her mate had left. She had only loved him, and he saw that was Naira's down fall. It was his. Giving his heart to someone to entrust, watching them throw it away. Did she love broken things, things that needed to be fixed? Things that were not good for her? He could pick up on her sourness, enough to know there was more that had gone unsaid.

The hanging of silence, the emptiness he waited and wanted her words. They were cruel things, of sharpness and cold of bitter truth. Was this Athena's doing? He had not thought her a heartless bitch, had she hardened too? Changed, enough not to give Naira something. She lacked Rhysis now, and worse the meanings of her existance. Triell couldn't say much, nothing would sooth such rifts in the soul. He curled his neck tighter across hers, brought his dark cheek to hers. Pressing it close, holding his own breath, his own tongue. The remains of her thoughts had a rumble in his chest. "I wouldn't have thought them so bitter, any one of those things but all of them?" He snaked his head back, his dark lips twitching across his teeth, while his ears were flat upon his skull. The irritation became bearable, under his control, he felt his body relax, and dared return his face to hers. He craved the warmth, and closeness. He craved to make it right. "What are you going to do...can I help?"
