but i'm not giving in.

A sense of relief washed over the canine when she finally made it out of the eerie forest for good, her brilliant jade gaze cast up over the ragged mountainous terrain before her as she paused for a moment. A cold gust of wind spent a chill down her spine, her ears fell back as the lupus rose her blacken nose in the wind. Her nostrils flared it took in the cold air scent, but there was no sign of Vallen or his followers so far. Did she loose them in the forest or where they being crafty? It took the canine a few days to get here, even with little too no sleep and hardly any food in her system. Akira knew she had to keep on the move. Vallen would never rest until he had her in his paws or even in this teeth for giving him such a hard time finding her. With an inward sigh, the she wolf could only do one thing. Keep moving.

A low but hard rumble came from the lupus stomach as she began her ascend up the rough terrain, her ears fell back slightly in response to her hunger as another rush rustled through her pelt and smacked her in the face. Even though her pelt kept her warm, she would still feel the chill as her shoulders and hips rose and fell with each step she took. Aki's head low as she tried to keep moving, her muscle ached and screamed for her to rest or at least take a break. The wolf's mind teasing her, ready to turn off as she startle to struggle keeping at a steady pace and make it up the rocky terrain. A beckoning yawn overwhelmed her, her laws opened wide as she tried to stay focused. 'Just keep moving,' the female told herself in hopes it would help her, 'just keep going. The farther you go, the more likely he would give up and move on. Please just keep going...'

Asta Fleetfoot
The pale gray sky was hardly a welcoming sight for Asta. She reminded herself it was only April - snow was still a distinct possibility even now. But she longed for proper warmth. Warmth that didn't involve the presence of rain - as it had a few days ago lower on the mountain. Of course, the higher one climbed, the colder it became, the more likely rain was to freeze and... snow! Asta blinked yellow eyes slowly as she tilted her head back to look skyward. A few flakes fell onto her dark nose and melted as the girl blew out gently; a stream of air whirled the snowflakes around in aleatory whorls. Mist clouded around her muzzle. But the girl made no sound as she lowered her head again, then determined she'd be back to what she was doing.

And what, exactly, was young Asta doing? Well, she was doing what she felt she did best when given no direction: scouting and keeping up borders. She had no particular task in the pack yet. She was good enough at keeping her paws beneath her when she moved in the rocky terrain, but that didn't promise anything. She was friendly too. Maybe she'd make a good scout. Or an ambassador! Isn't that the same thing? Asta shook her head at her own thoughts. She could keep up borders and catch prey for the cache. Those were things that could always be done by any wolf in the pack and it was at least helpful. She barely knew her packmates yet; Crowe and Rais hardly counted as the whole pack. And she'd still only ever seen {Naira} around - the only other she-wolf (apparently) in the pack. If there were others, Asta had yet to find them. She couldn't spend her entire day seeking them out either - she needed to be useful to her pack. Her parents had taught her that much!

A curious scent wafted up to Asta and her steady descent from the mountainside ceased. Herr ears pricked as if she could hear the smell; nose twitching, Asta considered for a moment what to do. She had been heading down the mountain fairly quietly up to this point; she was just an unassuming she-wolf. Who would notice her, right? Deciding she'd best remain silent, Asta followed her nose until she could see where the trail led. Another woman - close in age to Asta herself - was making her way steadily up the mountainside, yawning and speaking to herself. Asta couldn't make out the words properly, just keep going or something along those lines.

Equal parts curiosity and caution, Asta barked to grab the other wolf's attention first - if she hadn't been seen alread -, then lowered her head slightly to match her cautious side. She gave no display of dominance yet, but she watched the other girl closely for any indications of aggression. The excitement of meeting others and joining a pack had worn off of Asta somewhat, but she wasn't wholly unfriendly either when she called out over the silence of the snow: "Hello. Who are you?" A pointed question, filled more with curiosity than anything. The other woman seemed determined to make it up the slope even though she looked positively exhausted. Asta knew the feeling - understood it. Lifting her head slightly, her eyes narrowed against the cold and snow. Maybe saying meeting others didn't fill Asta with excitement anymore was the wrong way to word it: Asta still felt a thrill when meeting strangers; it was just that she now had a pack to consider and borders to defend. She asked one more question after a moment: "Where are you going?"

It wasn't like for the canine to just wander abound aimlessly without being sure she was heading, keeping track of where she was going to be sure she did not run into a pack or worse... back to Vallen's death grip he so desperately wanted on her. Although Akira never really paid attention mush to her surroundings, she was sure to head the opposite direction of Vallen's blood thirty followers. But as the lupus began her ascend up the light snow cover rough mountain side, her stomach growl viciously with hungry as the female tried to keep herself low. The light snowflakes gracefully fell from the soft grey sky above as the lupus left a rough sign slip out between her jaws. Her vivid green digits flickered before her for the easiest path to take around the peek, in hopes that she would remain unseen by any other wolves. Yet her hopes was soon lost...

Just as she began her slow rise up the steep side, a gust of crisp chilled wind rushed up the mountain face as the female paused and raised her blacken nose into the air. Nostrils flared angerily as she searched for a familiar scent that burned into her memory. The faint aroma of thick woodland forest and wet moisture swirled in her snout before the wind died down and suddenly changed directions once more. The edges of the wolf's charcoal lips curled up slightly in a soft grateful smile when the distasteful vial scent of Vallen did not cross her. A wave of modest relief washed over the canine as her stiffen tensed muscle turned to a more calm state. And with one quick shake of her body, a new sense satisfaction came to her.

And with her new re-found confidence, Akira's advanced further more upward. Her ears perked and came forward when the she wolf heard a bark. Like a deer caught in headlights, the medium sized creature froze in instant. Heart raced when she quickly turned to the sound, her gazed landed on another canine smaller than her. Although Akira stood tall, ears forward erected, and bristle slight raise from the surprise, she kept her tail low to show she did not wish to challenge the she wolf if that is what she seek. In fact... as soon as the thin canine came into full view and called out to her, the green eyed lupus lowered her head to seem more less threatening as her defense rose just in case the female was unfriendly.

Ignoring the curious canine's first question, Akira responded as she stayed where she was spotted. "I am looking to cross the mountains," the wolf answered with a low call back as her dark ears twitched listening for others that may be with the lone female. It was at the moment when it came to her, the scent of a pack was carried in the cold wind. Crap... the female was caught being close to a pack's land. Aki held her ground where she stood, ready to run if need unsure if the female would attack or call for others. A fight was something the sleep and food deprived canine could not handle and most certainly, lose. As she waited for the female to react, the lupus searched for her retreat exit.

Asta Fleetfoot
The other female looked alarmed. Had Asta managed to sneak up on her? The part of her that felt bad for startling the other wolf was overridden by the idea that Asta was getting stealthier and stronger; living on the mountain was hardening her body at the very least. Right now, Asta had only one point of reference as to how to treat lone wolves. Her old pack hadn't encountered any she could remember, and she and her brother had been alone for a long time. She could remember her parents' caution and, more recently, she remembered how @Naira had behaved when she'd met Asta for the first time. Thankfully for the lone woman, Naira had been understanding, if guarded. The leader hadn't even given a name until they were on their way to the Pass.

Remaining fairly neutral (although her fur was beginning to bristle a little), Asta reminded herself she was still away from pack territory. However, her unanswered question didn't go without notice. Asta's yellow eyes darkened and her tail lifted a little. But she didn't move otherwise. She tried to imagine her leader in this situation. Naira would want all the questions answered. Dodging questions was not a good quality! Right? But Asta was not Naira. She was a small wolf with much determination. So she mentally breathed out to cool her thoughts then opened her eyes wide and bright again.

"That's not an easy thing you've assigned yourself," Asta replied, tilting her head as she began to shift her weight. If the other wolf wanted to move further up this way, Asta would be ready to block her. Why did the other wolf want to just keep going? That's what she'd been saying, right? Wolves didn't just climb mountains for kicks, did they? Of course not! Why would anyone do that. "This isn't exactly a small hill," barked the young woman as she leapt down a few paces. There were still a few lengths between them. The pack would be nigh impossible to find by accident, but Asta wouldn't take that risk. And, with Naira's condition, she had a little extra incentive to be defensive, even if she was the newest member. She still had a lot to prove, after all. On the other hand, Asta had seen no other females in the pack. Only herself and Naira. It was a lonely affair, that. So she decided to go on, asking questions, feeling the stranger out.

"Why? What are you hoping to find on the other side?" Asta asked with a curious tone. She tried not to sound overly friendly (again she recalled Naira's actions) but she probably failed miserably: some of her usual bubbly nature probably started to poke through. Nevertheless, if she needed to that would change in an instant.
