Ice Aesir
you do not know who is your friend
or who is your enemy
until the ICE breaks.
He had thought that Fenru would have some small grain of empathy for the older wolf, but nooo. The youth was busy rolling on the ground, giggling and laughing like a hysteric pup. With mock-anger Ice glared down at him, before giving him a whack with his own, white tail before it betrayed him and began to wag frenetically. After a moment, Ice was laughing too, but why he wasn't sure — maybe Fenru's mirth was infectious? There was actually something very endearing about his unhindered joy, even if it was Ice he was laughing at. So far the kid had come since the spring... It was hard to believe sometimes, and as Fenru's own giggles subsided, Ice's joy took the shape of a small smile. "It ran away from me!" he protested, grinning widely but trying to conjure up a glare at the same time. Which, was true. The mantis had scampered away from him, and now it had disappeared completely. So, Ice wasn't exactly to blame for not touching it.. at least, according to himself. Still smiling, he looked fondly at Fenru for a few moments, before turning his silver gaze elsewhere.

During the late parts of spring and early summer, his mind had often touched the subject of parenthood — because during Indru's absence, he had almost got a taste of it. A heartbeat, a decision, and he would've been the father of Aiyana, Torrel and Rissa, but Corinna hadn't been able to make the choice and he had shut the gates in his heart, and refused to linger on it more than necessary. So why was it, that Fenru felt like his child now? It was not Indru who had been there for him, to pull him out of his misery, or teach him how to patrol, to find and remember routes.. it was not Indru who had taught him about confidence, but Ice. Still sitting up and peering out across the whispering meadow, blades of grass swaying and chiming in the wind, he heaved a small sigh. Life was a mess, wasn't it?

His name caught his attention, and with a soft "Hm?" he turned to peer down at Fenru. The boy seemed thoughtful, and younger — he was a huge wolf, taller than Ice, but sometimes he just morphed into this.. child, still a cub that could walk without effort beneath the Guardian's belly (not that he had ever met Fenru when he had been that small, he'd been almost full grown when Ice came into the pack). Now was one of those times, when the large wolf lying there, looking up at him with sincere eyes, seemed so much smaller than he really was. At the declaration that he was cool, he chortled for a moment. Really? He'd been called a lot of things, but cool had not been on that old list. "My Dad isn't even half as fun as you," he said, and Ice's heart dropped like a rock in water. I don't need anyone to feed my doubts. Instead, he just grinned. "If we did this every day, it wouldn't be that special, would it?" he countered with a wink. He enjoyed Fenru's company, and going out of the Grove seemed to do him good — so of course he'd sign up to spend more time with him, teaching him about the world!

The notion that Fenru wanted to spend time with him was also foreign, and for a moment he was silent, just looking at the boy with thoughtful, kind eyes. Why, though? Why me? With a grin Ice flung himself off his ass, trying to tackle the lying boy and shove his nose into his face, nip his ear, and whisper, "Of course".

I think maybe we can/should wrap it up in a few posts, as it's kind of.. outdated. XD

Of course. <3 Will have to have another (more recent) one with just the two of them some time.
His youthful grin immediately lifted the dark, mask-like features on his face again. He supposed adventuring with Ice wouldn't be considered special anymore if they took on a more everyday, routinely occurrence. Another nod ensued. "Yeah, okay," he willingly agreed. For as long as he could manage, a part of him wanted to be sure that his time with the Guardian would consistently be considered something special, something of worth that he would carry with him for always.

The boy met Ice's eyes with the same heartfelt expression; and while the man questioned why the young Tainn had chosen him and deemed him as one of his 'favorites,' Fenru happily awaited for the answer his ears had cupped forward to hear. The black-tipped tail behind him whipped about at the grass behind him. When the wait for his answer loomed a second longer than anticipated, the yearling's brows started to rise in question.

About ready to cast away the worry that was mounting, the possibility that Ice would probably not want to do anything like this for a while because of what he had just said about him being "cool," he held his breath. He was about to scoot closer, to simply and affectionately nuzzle the side of his face into Ice's pelt, when the man abruptly stood up. Fenru's attention snapped and he braced himself as Ice's nose drew close, a fond nibble received at the rim of one of his large ears. Then, the answer came...

Of course.

Fenru Tainn, in that moment, had never felt so wanted, loved in the sense that he was appreciated for simply being who he was.
