Hush Meadow What a Birthday

The northern lights are particularly brilliant tonight. 6/30/13 Nearing midnight.

Inali gleefully pounced on the unsuspecting rabbit, snapping its neck effortlessly. She had been catching many of these fluffy creatures in the recent days, come to think of it. The reason she was still awake was because she was trying to figure out a way to make it up to @Minka that she had forgotten her birthday. She was still asking herself, how could she have forgotten Minka's birthday!?

Over the time that the petite fae had joined Whisper Caverns, the 2 wolves had grown much closer. Minka was like a sister to Inali. Inali knew she could tell anything and everything to Minka, and know that Minka wouldn't tell anyone about it, unless Inali gave her permission to of course.

Minka had happened to tell her that she had been born about in the end of June. It was very near the end of that very month when it had totally slipped Inali's mind of the important date. With the plump rabbit clamped between her strong jaws, Inali let out a soft whine of shame.

She didnt even know if Minka even liked rabbit, but she hoped she did. The rabbit was large enough to become full. She had also caught one just as large minutes before and had hid it in a cluster of small bushes. Luck was definitely on her side tonight.

Okay, I have the food part down. What do I give her as a present?, Inali thought. Dropping the rabbit with the other dead rabbit, Inali started pacing. Like a sign from the Fates, a bright light distracted her. Looking up, Inali saw the beginning of the Northern Lights show up in the sky. Purple clashed with blue, blue clashed with green. Inali let out a soft gasp of awe. She had always loved to see the beautiful, rare lights when she was a kid. The love for the lights had not diminished with time.

Suddenly, Inali knew exactly what to give Minka for her birthday.

Jogging briskly towards the Cavern, Inali stealthily slipped inside. Careful to step over her sleeping pack mates, Inali reached Minka. Inali nudged her best friend with her muzzle softly on her side. Whispering she said, "Minka, wake up." Nudging her friend once more, Inali leaned back to see if she would wake up.

ohmygod crap post is crap, sorry guys

Truth be told Minka was something of a night owl, often times choosing to stay up later than she should and sleeping in the next morning. This being said she had only been asleep about an hour when Inali nudged her, at the point where the fae had just fallen into a deep sleep. A moan escaped the tawny woman but her eyes stayed firmly shut, shifting slightly closer to @Asterion and snuggling into his side before finding a comfy spot and a content sigh slipped through her jaws. The rusty tinged ears flicked forward as the sound of her friend's voice reached her and finally she opened one golden orb to give her friend an unhappy stare. Normally she was happy go-lucky without a care in the world, until someone woke her while she tried to sleep, and then it had better be an emergency.

Blinking a few times a large yawn racked Minka's body and the woman glanced to the man at her side, checking to see if she had woken him with her movement. Turning her attention back to Inali she inquired in a hushed whisper, "Inali what are you doing? It's the middle of the night." Suddenly panic flooded her, her friend had never woken her like this before, surely there must be some kind of emergency or Inali would have let the woman sleep. Clambering to her feet her eyes wide she surveyed the area, taking in the dim forms of her pack mates who all seemed to be there. Now the golden orbs turned to the rusty femme, quickly sweeping over her body to check for any obvious injuries or ailments, "Is something wrong? Is someone hurt?"

Inali fought to roll her eyes as her friend moaned and moved closer to the male. He had been here for a while, and Inali could tell how much Minka cared for her....little lover boy. But that wasn't important right now. She'd get to knowing him better soon. What was important was that she needed to wake Minka up. And pronto.

Inali sent her friend an encouraging smile as she glared at her. She was clearly unhappy that Inali had woken her up. That statement was further proven by Minka's next words.

"Inali what are you doing? It's the middle of the night."

The young woman was about to respond when Minka clambered to her feet, and sputtered out questions, a panicky look in her eyes. Inali sighed and looked up at the ceiling of the Cavern. Lowering her head she raised her right paw, and smacked it against her forehead as if telling herself, you've got to be kidding me.

Lifting her head up, she looked at Minka. Speaking in the same hushed whisper, Inali began. "Minka, calm down. No one is hurt, and nothing is wrong. But there will be if you don't step out of this Cavern right now." Inali uttered the last sentence in a tone of like a mother informing their daughter that there would be trouble if she didn't obey.

Placing her muzzle against Minka's side she nudged her friend forward, making sure she didn't step on any unsuspecting pack mate. "C'mon Minka! I don't wanna ruin the surprise! Move!" Her stern tone was replaced with a tone of pup-like exuberance. She didn't know how long the Northern Lights would last, but she intended for Minka to be out there to witness everything she could.

The dark male awoke to a rustling next to him, but shortly after Minka laid back into him. Content that everything was alright he allowed sleep to grasp him once more to the sound of her comfortable sigh. Only moments later he felt his side grow cold once more. Panic shot through his veins and his head flew up, searching for a tawny form. Relief washed away the panic as his eyes met her backside, and he was thankful to find her safe. Allowing his eyes to drift toward the wolf in front of her, blue met dark browns in the form of Inali. There was excitement in her voice, and then a stern tone bubbled from her lips telling his companion to leave the comfort of their cavern.

Protectively he stood beside her, but it was as if his body acted itself. He wasn't aware it had even happened, nor did he fear Inali was leading Minka into some sort of trap, so what happened? Immediately smoothing out his features, he moved a little farther away from the tawny female. Asterion was still strange when it came to showing affection or anything like it. Especially around others. He allowed a small glance at his, what was the word for her really? He wasn't sure where they stood exactly, was she his mate, his friend? Was she more than that? Managing a polite nod toward the smaller wolf he smiled as she began pushing Minka toward the outside world.

Panic was quickly quieted by her friends words and grumpiness of being woken up returned with a vengeance. Really it turned her back into being a moody adolescent who was annoyed at being told what to do. Tawny body relaxed into a position that spoke of exhausted, and perhaps she wouldn't have been quite so cranky, but after the incident with Simaea earlier that day Minka was in no mood for anymore disruptions. Golden eyes narrowed at the tone her friend used, she hated to pull rank, especially with her friends, but she was in such a foul mood that she wouldn't count it out. Feeling the nudge the hunter gave into her friend finally, deciding it would be faster to go see what she wanted and then she could return to her spot next her well....her Asterion.

Moving a few steps forward while watching she didn't misplace a paw on a pack mate Minka looked back, realizing that she had probably woken the male. Seeing that he was awake and had stood seemingly to her rescue the fae smiled sheepishly, clearly displaying that the two of them should play along with Inali's plans. Inali's voice reached her once more along with another nudge and Minka couldn't help but to roll her eyes in exasperation before moving past her friend. While walking past the fae playfully smacked her friend in the face with her brush of a tail, while teasingly whispering, "You don't have to be so bossy." Then ascended out of the caverns and into the night.

Around the outside of the entrance stood trees that blocked out much of the sky, and Minka's surprise was blocked by the full branches. Blinking slowly until her golden eyes adjusted to the gloom the woman looked around, seeing no great surprise waiting for her. A yawn stretched her jaw wide, the oxygen spilling from her lungs loudly as she leaned down into a arched pose, stretching out all of her muscles. Ruffling her tawny fur the fae shook her head, trying to wake herself up more, if she had to be awake she might as well enjoy whatever Inali had in store for them.

The over excited adult-pup:P

Inali chuckled softly as her friend walked past her,purposefully brushing her tail against her face. "Too bad I can only enjoy it when your not clear in the head," she taunted back in a whisper. Looking back, she noticed that Minka's man had awoken. Thoughts churned in her head, deciding to invite him or not. This was supposed to be much needed girl time...but. The woman sighed, and her blue orbs locked with his own.

Flicking her head to the outside of the den, she whispered teasingly. "I guess you have to come along, being Minka's lover boy and all. Follow me, you big oaf." Chuckling softly, she sauntered out of the Caverns, not looking back to see if the man had actually followed her or not.

Her happy state turned into a bemused one as she glanced up at the sky. Noticing nothing but trees, she was about to have a full-blown panic attack. Starting to pace, the woman muttered to herself, "I don't know what happened. It was right here!"

Heaving a sigh of frustration, she looked up at the sky again. Then she took a closer look. The branches!, she thought frantically to herself. They needed to get to the open clearing of the meadow so that they could finally see!

Directing her words to both of the fellow wolves, she started to frantically, loudly whisper. "Come, come! Follow me, or you'll miss the surprise!" Not wasting a second, she began to run. She had already stretched out her muscles before, so that wasn't a problem. Her destination was the clearing, and she'd be damned if Minka didnt get her birthday surprise! On the way, she completely forgot about the rabbits that she had hid for their meal. Oh well.

Minka heard the tease and smothered the growling chuckle in her throat, now was not the time to wake the rest of the pack with their childish banter. The fresh air felt good against her muzzle when she emerged, the nights now staying warm even after dark but the slight breeze enough to keep them cool. The fae had barely finished stretching when her friend took off yelling out once more about a surprise, giving her cinnamon fur one final shake the huntress took off behind her, but not before noticing that the male had not followed. Disappointment adorned her features, she had been looking forward to the bonding time between her closest friend and....well whoever Asterion was to her, that hadn't been formally discussed yet.

The feeling of her muscles moving smoothly quickly distracted her, it had been so long since the huntress had had a chance to truly stretch out her legs and run with abandon. Narime's pups were still very young and needed constant caring for, a task that fell on every member of the pack, it took a village as they said. Soon it was like clockwork, every sense trained forward, eyes locked on the rust form of the scout, nose taking in the seductive scent of the night around them, a mixture of the sweet dew that lingered on the grass, the musky scent of the earth beneath them, a faint whiff of rabbit.

Inali was much faster and more agile than Minka, her smaller form easier the slip around the foliage, but Minka was a huntress and stalking was her forte. Soon her friend's pattern was clear; they were headed towards the clearing and the tawny fae no longer needed to focus so hard on where they were headed and just let herself run. Bursting through the trees the woman slowed to a trot, her breath coming in delicious pants, oh how good it felt to be out once more. The meadow seemed painted in strange colours and golden eyes swept across the terrain, her head tilted slightly to the right as confusion filled her. It was then her sights settled upon the sky, and a tiny gasp escaped her jaws, it was the most beautiful thing she had ever seen.

The rust-hued fae with the blue eyes turned her head as her ears pricked at the sound of a soft gasp. Noticing Minka entering the clearing with a look of pure amazement on her face, made the corners of her lips twitch. That was the exact reaction she had been looking for.

The small, young woman looked up at the sky. It was beautiful. A mixture of colors, surrounding the clearing and making it shine with an unusual glow, but nonetheless, beautiful. Blues, greens, orange, red. The list went on.

Closing her eyes, she relished in the serene feel that the view gave her. A soft breeze flowed through her lush fur, and Inali breathed in deep the scents of the meadow. Exhaling softly, the small fae slowly blinked her blue eyes open. Not wanting to shake herself from such a peaceful scene, the woman padded towards her closest friend.

Sidling up besides Minka, she sat beside her friend and began to speak in a soft tone. A gentle whisper, really. "I just wanted to do something nice for your birthday, but tonight, the Fates have truly blessed us. Happy late birthday Minka: my sister."

It wasn't until Inali uttered the words that she realized they were true. Minka had become like her sister. The sister she never had, but had always wanted. It had always been a drifting thought she supposed, but never one she imagined speaking.

Raising her head, she continued to look up at the Northern Lights.

Golden eyes were mesmerized by the colours as they intertwined and danced with each other in the sky, blending seamlessly in an intricate and inexplicable pattern. Minka had seen the northern lights before when she was just a young pup, but they had not been nearly as vibrant and she could hardly remember them. The fae's pelts were bathed in the colour and they seemed to glow unnaturally as they stood in the clearing staring at the sky. Time seemed frozen in such a perfect moment, nothing but a woman and her closest friend surrounded by one of the most beautiful sights on earth. Minka was almost tempted to hold her breath, afraid of shattering the scene or maybe wake herself up if she was just dreaming and the soft sounds of her friend's paws made her jump slightly.

Sitting her tawny rump upon the ground she leaned against her friend, a warm smile upon her face feeling serene since the first time since her birthday. Nudging Inali softly with her muzzle she whispered her response, "Oh Inali, you truly are like a sister to me, it seems like fate is always on our side." The fatigue that had gripped her only but 15 minutes before was completely forgotten now, everything seemed to have slipped away. All the doubt over her budding relationship with Asterion, the depression at realizing how far she was from making her goals a reality on her birthday, the stress from keeping track of the pups, gone. It was possible Inali would never know how perfect this birthday present really was.

The lights were truly a sight to behold. The young woman had only witnessed the Northern Lights once, from what she could remember. She was only a pup, but the memory was vague and blurry. The only thing that she remembered was being beside her mother as the lights came into view.

Now that she witnesses the pretty colors in the sky, she was glad that the Fates had blessed them both. The lights were a rare specimen, seldom behold.

Inali did not give a response to her friend as she spoke, but her soft whine of contentment and agreement said it all. The two women stayed like that for a while--leaning on each other, enjoying this moment of closeness. Inali didn't know how long the lights lasted, but it wasn't until the last light faded into the night that the two friends made their way back home.

The walk back was silent, but no words were really needed. Inali was glad that she had done this for her friend, for it had brought her great happiness to see that serene smile on Minka's maws. Maneuvering silently through the terrain as always, Inali led the way through the thickening darkness. Her paws knowing instinctively where to go, her body weaving gracefully through the trees and tall grass that surrounded their home.

Her blue orbs were already drooping by the time they had made it back to the communal den. Stepping over slumbering pack mates, the two women finally laid down. Gathering warmth from each other's bodies, it was not soon after that the two friends joined there pack mates in slumber.
