Anastasia Starklen
Set before the Flood of Secret Falls.

The time had come for @Lachesis and herself to say their goodbyes to the Trail, leaving Ace and Silver to their budding love and for the two travelers to find their way again. They had lost many friends from the time of the Trail’s conception to now; Ana was not prepared to lose anymore. She wanted stability and companionship, things that she knew Maksim could provide for her and XIX. On the way Ana had talked lots about Maksim and how he had offered her a home because he could see how unhappy she was—she had expressed that Maksim was not like Reaper and that the two of them could likely get along better. Ana had also mentioned that the scent of the white male had long since vanished, a feeling that left the woman feeling empty but hopefully not for long.
Last she knew, @Maksim was going to come to the Fen sometime soon to grab them but Anastasia could not wait any longer so she decided to make the journey herself. She had stopped briefly to ask a stranger for directions to the Rapids though was usually left very vague as far as directions went so Anastasia just followed her nose and hoped that it led her in the right direction. It certainly would not be the first time she relied on instinct to bring her places. There were plenty of landmarks so that she wouldn’t get turned around, and she knew where Magnolia glen was so that was an easy figure on the mental map inside of her head to avoid.

Lachesis "XIX" Stark
<b style="font-family:georgia; font-size:11px; color:#7D9A7B;">
A mixture of different emotions flooding the thin yearling as he followed silently at Anastasia's side, his ears fallen against his head and maw pointed toward the ground. He was excited to start a new chapter in their life, but it was also upsetting to leave behind the pack he had considered his home. After his brother had forced him to leave the Reserve the youth had never anticipated finding a home elsewhere — it was not until he met Anastasia and she coached him on the ways of pack wolves that XIX finally felt as though he was ready to join a pack. It had started off wonderfully as everything had quickly fallen into place after they had been accepted. Anastasia was taking care of Shade's children and assumed a leader position, and Lachesis had joined his other friend, Capella, and quickly developed a close bond with Shade's son.
However, all good things have to come to an end. Capella had disappeared several weeks after he had been accepted, Anastasia had given up her position as Alpha after Shade claimed he found love in Spectre, and then Shade was murdered after a pathetic attempt at finding his ex-mate. The yearling still did not understand what drove the former leader to chase after the female who had abandoned not only him, but their children — especially after he announced that he and Spectre had become mates. What had been most frustrating for XIX was that he had not been able to save the wounded Alpha; he had been the pack's healer and it was his job to save those who were injured and fix them up. Shade's wounds had been far too severe and the yearling had not been able to save him, which was something that still haunted his thoughts.
While he was frightened to leave behind the first place he had called home within Relic Lore, the zombie youth was also incredibly excited to start this adventure with Anastasia. He listened patiently to her as she explained her conversation with Maksim — and how he was not at all like Reaper — and grew more ecstatic with each word that dropped from her lips. This change was going to be good for them; there would be no bad memories and they would be able to start fresh and flourish together. He trusted her opinion and was glad that she had found somewhere else for them to call home... he just hoped that Maksim would allow the nervous wreck to join his pack.

Maksim Baranski
Dating this roughly around the 24th of September--is that okay with you both?

Maksim was a man of his word and he set off from Darkwater Rapids with a howl of departure, not that the empty pack lands would need it—no one responded to any calls beyond the borders—, in search of a particular Miss Anastasia Starklen. And let’s not forget her friend who would be accompanying them to greener pastures. The Baranski could only hope about kind of wolf they were. Then again, they were a friend of the white woman and her company had been more than a little pleasant, even if the contents were a little sour in the mouth. Death. He’d never experienced a loved one dying and had even been lucky to have seen his grandparents live well into their older years. They were still breathing and well when he had left Tall Trees. Briefly, he wondered what had become of them. He hoped they were well. They were both very inspirational wolves in the agouti brute’s life.

He figured it would be easy enough to Pitch Pine Trail. Just head south and follow the water. That’s how he’d found the blue eyed woman before: out of pure luck. He paused for a moment, staring into the water by his side. There was something oddly soothing about the soft whispering noises the current made, washing over small rocks and lapping against the banks. Growing up on a lakeside mountain, the gentle waves had been a lullaby on restless nights. Perhaps, someday, his own children would think of water and feel the same nostalgia for home.

As he averted his green gaze from the water, his eyes widened as he spied two white wolves heading his way. One of them stood out, the almost pristine coat, the soft blue gaze … Anastasia. What a coincidence finding her here, in the exact same forest he had met her in not all too long ago. Picking up the pace, he trotted over before drawing to a halt near them both, smiling slightly as he glanced between the two briefly. <b style="font-family:georgia; font-size:11px; color:#d8ddcf;">“Miss Starklen! What a surprise. It’s good to see you again,” he rumbled, softly, and wagged his tail briefly in greeting. Reverting his attention to the yearling once more, Maksim dipped his head in a formal greeting. <b style="font-family:georgia; font-size:11px; color:#d8ddcf;">“You must be Anastasia’s friend, hm?”<b style="font-family:georgia; font-size:11px; color:#d8ddcf;">

Completely fine by me!

To be honest the idea of having Lachesis meet someone that she had met first was stressful. After all the last wolf that Anastasia had really taken a liking to the youth had not come to terms with at all. Besides the fact that he had wanted to take care of Anastasia, Lachesis had wanted nothing to do with him. Now that something new had come along in the wake of Reaper’s absence, the gangly-legged youth seemed a little more interested in the prospect of moving somewhere with a stranger. At least, Ana was pretty sure that Maksim would make a good impression for her friend.
To leave Pitch Pine Trail broke her heart, especially when she thought about Karpos and Adsila. Word had gotten back to her that Rosealia, their real mother had returned (unknown to Ana it was just a brief appearance) and that news only left Anastasia feeling all the more temporary. How could she compete with a real mother? Sure, the woman had left her children and mate without a word but she doubted that Karpos would turn her away. Being unwanted was a normal feeling for the dove—she always felt friendzoned when it came to the guys that she had met. Reaper had clearly expressed that he saw her as a potential leader (and she assumed it meant a potential mate in her) but he had left—gone for good. Shade had found love in Spectre and Ace in Silver, so that left her with nothing. Not to mention her background of being on the wrong side of the gender spectrum in her birth pack.
But now, she had the ease of mind knowing that they could start fresh once more. Hopefully without the bad luck that had followed them since day one. “Hey Maksim,” she called the guardian as he picked up the pace towards her with a friendly introduction. How could someone not like him when he was so amiable and happy to see them? “This is Lachesis—my best friend,” she smiled happily knowing that he had made this journey with her and that there were no take-backs.

Lachesis "XIX" Stark
What if this wolf that Anastasia had gushed about did not like him? The spider-legged yearling knew he was not the ideal pack wolf – he was the complete opposite, really – but he was willing to learn and show this Maksim that he would be a loyal Darkwater member. There were very few things that he had to offer, but his china doll had assured him that they were extremely useful. The awkward teenager was an excellent fisher, but he excelled when it came to his knowledge of medicinal plants. Although he had not been able to save their former leader from his fatal wounds, the pear-eyed boy knew the properties of usual herbs like the back of his paw. XIX hoped that there was not a healer already present in the pack they were pursing or else his skills would go to waste.
His thoughts were interrupted by a foreign voice, brows narrowing instinctively as he allowed his soft gaze to fall upon the green-eyed stranger. Immediately the pale zombie decided that this wolf was much better than Reaper. During his first encounter with the fiery-eyed loner Lachesis had not trusted the peculiar male – there was something in the way that he spoke that left an unsettling feeling linger in his stomach. However, with Maksim, there was an instant warmth that spread throughout his body, and it was impossible to shake the smile that had worked itself onto his licorice lips. <b style="font-family:georgia; font-size:11px; color:#446819;">“It’s nice to finally m-meet you,” he started nervously, his infamous stutter slipping out as he struggled to soothe his thoughts. <b style="font-family:georgia; font-size:11px; color:#446819;">“Ana has spoken very highly of you.” He flashed his companion a lop-sided smile as he spoke, his tail giving a gentle wave as he returned his attention to the agouti male before him.<b style="font-family:georgia; font-size:11px; color:#446819;">

Maksim Baranski
Anastasia introduced her younger friend formally. Lachesis, her best friend. He couldn’t help but be reminded of young Lily, the girl with the one odd eye and excitable personality. Still, he mentally shrugged off the memories—how long had it been since he had seen the youth?—the Baranski nodded and smiled at the boy’s words, indifferent to his little speech impediment. Perhaps the vocal stumble simply came down to nerves and would lessen with time. Regardless, Anastasia had spoken highly of Maksim, had she? He couldn’t help the swell of pride in his chest. It was good to know he had made a good impression on the white lady. <b style="font-family:georgia; font-size:11px; color:#d8ddcf;">“It is a pleasure to meet you as well, Lachesis.” He seemed a gentle enough soul and it came as no surprise that he was close with the blue-eyed Arctic; she was gentle, too, which were important qualities to have.

Darkwater Rapids had no healer, luckily for Lachesis, and his talents would be a wonderful, welcome asset to the pack. Not only that, but a good fisher? The falls would be more than welcoming to the lanky yearling then! Salmon and catfish were plentiful there, after all. As for Anastasia, she had mentioned being a teacher to her past pack’s pups, had she not? Mace, Rowan, Quil and Cinder were good kids, if not a bit of a handful sometimes. Mace and Rowan did their best to one up the other, Cinder was simply a brazen, spunky little thing and Quil was the quiet one of the litter. Honestly, Maksim had a soft spot for all of them. They would certainly enjoy her company, wouldn’t they?

With an idle flick of his tail, the Baranski looked between the two Arctics. <b style="font-family:georgia; font-size:11px; color:#d8ddcf;">“Would you like to make way for the falls now? Or perhaps you would like to rest for a while before we set out?” It was almost a day’s journey and the once Pitch Pine Trail duo had probably travelled quite a way already.<b style="font-family:georgia; font-size:11px; color:#d8ddcf;">

Whether she wanted to believe it or not, she was more excited about joining Maksim’s crew than she had about Reaper’s. At least now, it was getting off without a problem and they wouldn’t have to wait to gther anyone. It seemed Maksim had everything planned out and the only thing that mattered was time—time to tell the woman he led with that it was his time to shine. That he wanted to start a new chapter of his life with him telling it from his point of view. Exactly like this would be a good thing for her and Lachesis, a new beginning where they could start fresh and figure everything out.
Lachesis stuttered was not a surprise to her but nor did it alarm her. He had come a long way since the very first time they had first met and she was proud of him, positive that he knew how she felt. Although her heart had broken a lot after seeing Karpos one last time, she knew that such things could never be forever. Anastasia wished to take Karpos with her forever but stupidly she had assumed that he wanted to stay there… he had seemed happy for so long but perhaps after the death of Shade Anastasia had only seen herself and the only reason she knew XIX was unhappy was because he had done her long before.
Breaking free of her broken heart she nodded towards Maksim, knowing that this would be a whole new journey. “We’re ready to go to the Falls I think,” she looked to Lachesis to ask if he was ready to simply truck on through and get to their destination without stopping. Anastasia was ready to feel something again, to feel the warmth of friends that likely would not leave or place her under temporary circumstances. She wanted to give Maksim the push he needed to get everything started and she would do whatever it took to see him find the strength in him to be the leader he knew he had in him.

Lachesis "XIX" Stark
<b style="font-family:georgia; font-size:11px; color:#D7DDDF;">
Despite his excitement guilt still weighed heavy on his heart. The meeting with Karpos prior to their departure had left a scar, and the pale healer was worried that his ‘nephew’ would not be able to overcome the tragedies he had already experienced in his short life. XIX desperately wanted to take the shadow child with them, but to the pup Pitch Pine Trail was home – and would always be his home. It was where his sister was and where he had come to live with his father. It was now where his father would permanently reside and Lachesis knew, until something called him away from the Trail, the pup would remain there. After things settled down the lanky teenager vowed to return to visit Karpos, even if he was still angry – perhaps a bit of distance and time would temporarily settle the poor boy’s heart and mind.
Though the words that fell from the green-eyed male’s mouth were few, the ghost had already decided that he liked this Maksim. There was a different air that surrounded the agouti male that made it nearly impossible to dislike him – he was nothing like the fiery-eyed Arctic that had tried to persuade the dynamic duo into joining his bizarre cult-like pack. It seemed as though things were finally starting to look up for the pale yearling and his blue-eyed companion. With his bright, pear-coloured eyes focused on the china doll XIX nodded in agreement to her response.
<b style="font-family:georgia; font-size:11px; color:#D7DDDF;">“Yes,” he agreed with a crooked smile, his gaze trailing back to the large male. <b style="font-family:georgia; font-size:11px; color:#D7DDDF;">“We’re ready to go.” Lingering so close to their former back was only going to feed the negative memories that haunted the corners of his mind – the boy desperately wanted to shove those thoughts aside and move on.

Maksim Baranski
His question did not go unanswered for long as both decided that, yes, it was time to leave behind their pasts and stride on towards a future within Darkwater Rapids. It was a bold move on their part and hopefully their pack mates—rather ex-pack mates—wouldn’t hold their decision against them. It wasn’t their fault. It was just how their cards had been played. Life could be unfortunate sometimes and the best thing to do when it throws you to the ground is to lift your head up, brush yourself off and keep marching onwards. How could you possibly hold that against someone? Maksim looked between the white pair before he smiled and nodded slowly. He could understand why they wanted to make their leave swiftly. He had been the same himself when he had left his old home and, though the Darkwater leader was sure it was for different reasons, he could relate.

<b style="font-family:georgia; font-size:11px; color:#d8ddcf;">“Well then,” he began, <b style="font-family:georgia; font-size:11px; color:#d8ddcf;">“I hope you won’t mind me marking you now. Should anyone bump into us, we’ll be identified as pack members almost immediately.” It made sense to him and hopefully to them, too. After a brief moment, Maksim stepped forwards, first brushing up against Anastasia’s sides, browns and greys mixing with white, before moving to Lachesis, transferring his and Darkwater Rapid’s scent. Satisfied with his job, reptilian eyes scanning over both the wolves before him, the agouti male flicked his tail idly with a smile. <b style="font-family:georgia; font-size:11px; color:#d8ddcf;">“Then I’ll lead you to your new home.” With a smile, the brute turned, long legs carrying him along as mist swirled lazily at his ankles.

It struck him rather suddenly that he didn’t know much about Anastasia’s companion, the spider-legged yearling. The Baranski decided to fix and what better way to do that than with some leisurely chit-chat? Not only would it satisfy Maksim and his desire to know more about them both, but it meant that their time travelling would not be filled with silence. Perhaps it would also help to calm or soothe them in some way! <b style="font-family:georgia; font-size:11px; color:#d8ddcf;">“Lachesis, I don’t honestly know all that much about you. Forgive me for my bluntness, but may I inquire as to what you are hoping to expertise in?” He seemed about the age where a pack role would call his name. Would he be aiming for hunter? Scout? Maybe a healer? The sky was the limit, as far as Maksim was concerned. It was best to be what you wanted to be.<b style="font-family:georgia; font-size:11px; color:#d8ddcf;">

Anastasia Starklen
I'm finishing this so that there are no loose ends <3

Lachesis, too, had decided that they were ready to go and leave the past behind them. The two of them did not harbor resentment towards the Trail nor did they hold distaste for the members, it was simply something that the two arctic felt inclined to do. The two simply needed to start fresh somewhere and from Anastasia’s point of view, she wanted to start somewhere she wasn’t just going to be a temporary thing. She had never felt quite permanent in the Trail—first coming there to save Shade’s children from starvation and hold up leader since she was the eldest available. Then setting up leadership again because Spectre couldn’t do her job with a dying love only to eventually be challenged once more by Silver when the time was right.
At least from where she stood now, at least with Maksim and his pack she would be normal for a little while and hopefully earn a title all her own. She didn’t mind the strangers that she would likely meet because they could eventually be acquaintances or friends even. As long as she had Lachesis, as well as the Baranski guardian, she felt that she would be safe and happy wherever it was she stood. Placed next to Lachesis, Maksim rubbed himself along each of their sides and led them off, engaging in talk with Lachesis so that they could get better acquainted. The topic was something she was sure XIX would appreciate so with a large smile upon her face, she followed the dark-coated knight to their new home.
