Athena Moon

Days, weeks, months passed by without the woman knowing. Constant searching was her only motive; the only thing that kept her going was the thought that she’d see the face of her lost daughter on the other side. However, every step that Athena took, Aphrodite seemed to get further and further away. Just as Athena thought she could reach out and embrace her child, she would only grasp the empty air where her child once was. Her searching almost became futile and after several months of nothing, her body begged her to stop. Skin and bones was only left of the once regal woman, a woman that once ruled a thriving pack and had everything she needed and more. Now, all was left was an empty carcass with a cold, beating heart. Her life had fallen apart in seconds, before she even knew what was happening.

Instinct took over and her faithful paws led her in the direction of what she once called home. Relic Lore was the only real home she ever had, but even then she had been hurt beyond repair. Before the weeks and months where she searched for her lost daughter, she had begun rebuilding her life within Magnolia Glen besides her troubled son and friend, Inkheart. She was content enough; however, the mother needed to know how her daughter was within the safety that she thought was Whisper Caverns. Her curious nature took her to the brinks of their borders, but scented no Aphrodite. Circling the territory, she recovered the faint trail of her young daughter leaving the confines of the Caverns. Following the rebellious girl, she assumed she’d find her easily enough, just a little ways off the borders. However, her hopes of returning any time soon were slowing diminishing.

It took weeks, months for the faithful mother to finally stop her death trail. If she was to go any further, Athena wouldn’t last any longer. Desperation and hunger was setting in and she was once again a broken soul, with a shattered heart. The trail of Aphrodite had gone cold, disappearing out of nowhere. Athena gave everything that she had to find her daughter, but it wasn’t enough. Turning back towards home was the toughest thing she had ever done. It took so much strength to give up on her own daughter. She feared she wouldn’t have any more strength to get back to her Elliot. Part of her knew that her son would probably never forgive her once again for leaving him once again, but she knew he was save with Inkheart and Magnolia Glen. They were strong; they would keep him alive while she may not.

Envisioning the face of her only son and Inkheart kept the woman going. She needed them. She needed someone to comfort her shattered heart and soul. She needed a knight in black shining armor. She needed strength. But would she get that or would they turn her away just like everyone else has in her life. Only time will tell. The earth beneath her paws began to change. She could feel the energy radiating from the lands of her home. She was so close. Coming in from the west, she will be entering the Thicket of Secrets first. Nina lived here, or used to. Who knows what has happened while she was gone. However, she would love to see her one-eyed friend, even if she was on bad terms with her brother. Remembering the time when those feelings were dramatically switched. Nowadays, Athena was more civil. However, those who crossed her path too many a time, not so much. Before she knew it, she was crouching low to avoid the tangled mess of the forest. A grim smile crossed her face at the thought that she was one step closer to reuniting with her son and Inkheart, she could only hope they were still home.

Nina Hervok

She had been doing the rounds for the border for the past several days, trying to get back on her feet after her tragic loss. There had been no important activity and for that Nina had been thankful. She knew that she would have to get back onto her feet soon and it was why she was already planning a trip to go to Willow Ridge, Whisper Caverns, and Poison Path if the time allowed. With the pups arrival she had not been able to make many trips to see her allies but now that her children had grown up a little bit more, Nina knew it was time for her to make the trip towards the packs. She did not want to give them false pretenses about their alliance and it was time that she made her services welcome to Elettra, who had saved her life more than once.

Going around the borders had proved to have a different result today though. The distinct scent of someone she was pretty sure that she knew was near the borders, but there was something…off about the scent. Increasing her pace, the woman raised herself higher upon instinct and sauntered forward, her single eye taking in the white form of the lady she was quite shocked to see at her borders. Clearing her throat, she spoke clearly to her friend, "Athena…are you alright?" Nina did a once over of her white friend, making sure she did not have any injuries. The woman looked tired and almost…defeated and it caused worry to stir in the pit of the alpha’s stomach. Had something happened that she had not known about?

Athena Moon

Fiery eyes searched the dark shadows of the thickets, searching for what, was unknown to her. Perhaps, the habit hasn't left her completely after her constant search for Aphrodite. Her unusually thin body easily fit through the crevices of the thick vines and low hanging trees. Being without a pack for so long, her body was still underweight from when she was trapped within the caverns. Unable to completely recover from that ordeal, Athena was still underweight and unhealthy compared to how she used to be. Her body had gone through a traumatic change in the past few months. Just months ago, she was strong and healthy, now she was underweight and weak. She has been lucky to have survived for the many months that she has been alone for, surviving off scavenging and hunting small animals. With the privilege of a pack gone, there is no leisure of cache or help to catch larger, more filling prey. This is the first time she's been completely alone in two years.

As she crept through the shadows, body crouching low to the ground to avoid the vines, her ears suddenly pricked forward. Something within the shadows in front of her stirred. Halting swiftly, her body froze has she stared towards the direction where the noise came from. Instantly, her hackles stood on end and the air suddenly got extremely cold. Crouching lower to the ground until her warm belly touched the cold, moist ground, she wanted to make herself unknown to whatever was out there. Time seemed to slow as burning eyes similar to hers suddenly stared right at her. Unable to look away or run, her body remained frozen as those piercing eyes looked right through her soul. The silhouette around the eyes seemed dark, but the shadows could be deceiving her. The wind only brought over the slight scent of the wolf being male, nothing else. However, another noise, again close to her, interrupted the spell of the mysterious man.

A voice further broke the spell, forcing her to redirect to the newcomer. Releasing a breath that she didn't know she was holding, she grazed up at the one eyed woman's face. She was unbelievably happy to see a familiar face after so many months of nothing familiar at all. Quickly glancing back to where the mystery man was, she no longer was able to find him. A meek smile crossed her face, when she glanced back towards Nina, as she slowly rose up from her crouched position. Still able to smell the pack upon Nina's coat, she kept her posture lower than the woman that she thought was still a friend. However, she wasn't sure if Nina still felt the same about her. Keeping her eyes low, she cleared her dry throat to answer the brown woman. "No, I'm far from alright, my dear friend." She whispered, her eyes slowly rising towards the muzzle of Secret Woodlands queen until she was able to look her in the eye as she continued on. "Poison Path is gone."

Nina Hervok

In front of her was no longer the strong, regal woman that had stood before her months before looking over her kingdom. Now…..now it looked as if the poor woman had been struggling for quite some time and definitely starving. It was easy to see how thin she was and much weaker than she had been in the past. Looking down upon the woman now, it was as if the roles were dramatically reversed. Something was obviously wrong but Nina was still trying to think for the best. Her positive thoughts were shattered when Athena’s words came through to her. Mouth agape in shock, she clinked her jaws shut to stop herself from embarrassment. Not knowing what to say, she swallowed and asked the only question she could muster up, "H-how?"

Her mind was thinking the worst. If Athena was here then why wasn’t Ash right by her side? Knowing her brother well enough, she knew that if it would have come down to it and Poison Path had been left; he would have stayed by the white woman’s side. His loyalty had been tied to her with an iron chain, one that was extremely hard to be broken…unless Athena had betrayed him, which she also could not see happening. Her mind immediately went to other thoughts. Had her brother fallen? How bad would it have to be to tell her other sister that her brother had died? When Nina realized that she was asking all these questions that she knew she couldn’t answer, she mentally cursed herself and concentrated back onto Athena’s broken face. Something had happened and Nina needed to know what.

Eva Hervok
It was the scent of deer that had attracted the young Hervok. The herds were beginning to disappear, making her job much harder than it used to be. The most important goal to make it through the winter was building the food cache as much as she could. Eva was in this very process when the scent reached her, and her belly rumbled hungrily. She had not eaten in a while, and imagined the wonderful taste that the deer would provide. However, when she got closer, another scent overrode her instincts. It was one of Nina, of course, and barely recognizable Poison Path. The thought of seeing Ash again made Eva rip her gaze from the food and look straight towards the emaciated white wolf, that was certainly not her brother.

Eva walked forwards, keeping a respectful distance between herself, Nina, and this stranger. As she was looking, it finally dawned on her who this wolf was. It was Athena, Ash's mate, that she met a while back! Eva was always grateful for the position she had been offered by Athena. Now her stomach rolled nervously. Where was Ash? What happened to Athena? Everything was going horribly wrong in only a couple of seconds and the Hervok could do nothing but sit down and listen. Athena's words caused Eva's eyes to grow wider, her paws shifting. Her eyes went to the ground, inspecting each piece of dirt that she could find while her mind rolled. Ash was probably coming soon, right? Maybe they just got lost from each other and he would come to greet them as soon as he could. If he was in a bad shape like Athena, they could welcome him in and fix him up and be like a family again! The thought caused the corners of Eva's jaws to curl upwards in a smile, though she kept her head down in order to hide it from the others.

Yes, Ash would definitely be here soon. Everything was fine. Eva convinced herself of these ideas despite the walking, talking proof that no, everything was not okay.
