@Lachesis

A shade of daylight still cast a dim glow over the moist, water-logged land. The grey clouds of the sky could not conceal the last bit of evening sunlight which would fade slowly, stubbornly over the course of the next hour and a half. The rains continued to fall, cold and constant, making the ground squelchy underfoot and made the dying grasses even softer and more likely to mold under the snow when it finally fell. It was not the most pleasant evening, and the forest which would have under any other circumstances been a beauty to behold, looked like a sodden, dim place, where the red ferns drooped and began to lose their integrity due to the fading season and the never-ending rain.

Still, the vibrant red was a nice colour to behold and attracted the attention of the wandering medic. The wet ground made it easier for her to find the roots she liked to chew on, for this benefit or that. Her omnivorous diet kept her very lean, but made her coat thick and healthy, shiny even as she took on her winter coat. In this forest she found a small crop of wild garlic growing, so she clawed at it, pulling the stems away and exposing the roots which were slightly soggy, but nevertheless useful. She wasn't picky about the taste- she found that it was different but still quite enjoyable. For someone who'd been eating plants for most of her life, it was definitely one of the more tolerable ones.

She scuffled a few plants out of the ground and picked them up, carrying them over to the shelter beneath a tree where fewer raindrops fell through. She made a trip back and forth a few times until she had a decent collection of wild garlic and, once satisfied with the meal she'd gathered, she lay down beneath the tree's sheltering branches and began to chew away on the softened roots.

Lachesis "XIX" Stark
is it alright if we set this prior to the move of Darkwater Rapids? Cut Rock is all the way in Cedarwood so it'd be quite the journey for Lachesis to venture back to Red Fern :)

<b style="font-family:georgia; font-size:11px; color:#D7DDDF;">
As the long-limbed yearling adjusted to his new home in Darkwater Rapids the rain continued at a steady rate, dampening the surrounding territories along with his bleached fur. While his mind still wandered to his former life in Pitch Pine Trail, XIX was determined to make a name for himself in the newly formed pack. A fresh start was something that the youth craved, and the thought of starting over with his blue-eyed companion elsewhere left a warm, pleasant feeling to settle in the depths of his chest. Occasionally guilt would consume him when he recalled the final meeting that took place with Karpos before their departure – his tortured expression and the angry words that sputtered past his lips. Although he had been a Trail member and had made the land his home, it never truly was a home. Anastasia’s ranks and duties were constantly shifting, and with the death of their former leader, Shade, it all became too much for the Arctic pair.
Moving with a feminine grace Lachesis was compiling a mental list of plants that he would need to collect to start an inventory within the new pack’s territory. While he was an experienced fisher and did enjoy the act of splashing about water to catch food, the pale yearling was passionate about his healer duties. Though he was not yet old enough to claim the co-rank he wanted to be well-prepared when (and if) the time arose. Hopefully, by then, another did not snatch up the duty before Nineteen was able to. If so, he would rely on his skills of water-based hunting to land him the duty of fisher… but he prayed that it would not come to that.
The area that Darkwater was nestled in was foreign to the shy yearling – he was not as acquainted with these lands as he had been with the forests of his former pack. With the heavy rainfall Lachesis wanted to be prepared if there were any accidents to happen, especially with the pack being settled so close to a body of water. With his ears pinned forward and nose hovering inches above the damp, leaf-littered ground, the ghost pushed forward desperate to find something to fill his inventory.

Ah- sure thing!

Penny was fully aware that eating garlic would give her an herb-like scent for the next few days. It was something her family had never minded, due to the fact that she was certainly not the only omnivore who lived among them. A few, who truly detested the taste and smell of herbs made funny comments now and again, but they knew the value and use of eating plants so their jokes were never mean. She'd bumped into other wolves while smelling like onion or garlic before, and was already used to the way that some wolves completely rejected the notion of eating herbs for their benefits. They'd also objected to the way she smelled, as it made her smell more like plant and less like wolf...But it'd worked out in Penny's favour before- the smell could sometimes help her hunt.

So, with breath that was really quite garlic-y, she set off having finished her meal. Her stomach felt a bit more full though not in the same way it would if she'd found a proper meal- which was, naturally, next on her list. As she lived in no pack, she knew that making a cache of herbs was useless. She herself would raid any other caches she found, for the sake of getting herself an easy meal that didn't require much effort on her behalf.

In the distance she saw a wisp of a whitish shape, and craned her head to get a better look. It moved into view again and took the form of an attractive, tall, lean white male wolf with bright eyes. His head was down and he was definitely trying to find something by its scent. Intrigued, Penny trotted toward him, head lowered as well- maybe they could track whatever it was he was tracking together! "Whatcha smellin' fella?" She asked as she got closer, without speaking too loudly as to scare off something if he was close to finding it.

<b style="font-family:georgia; font-size:11px; color:#D7DDDF;">
The boy had been so absorbed in his search that he had not noticed the peculiar scent of the female who had interrupted his thoughts. Flashing his pear-coloured orbs to meet the bright green gaze of the shadow-pelted loner, XIX raised his nose away from the ground to ponder her question. He could not help but notice the strange odour coming from her mouth and struggled to keep his nose from scrunching up. <b style="font-family:georgia; font-size:11px; color:#D7DDDF;">“Not sure,” he answered with a nonchalant shrug, his eyes wandering away from the earthy-smelling female. Lachesis was being honest with the girl, as he was not sure what he was looking for – just anything that could potentially be useful in his medicinal practices. The land was foreign to him so he was not sure what it held, but perhaps this wolf would know; she smelt so similar to the ground below him, surely she knew something of the plants that grew from it.
<b style="font-family:georgia; font-size:11px; color:#D7DDDF;">“What’re you looking for?” The nimble yearling retorted with a sly grin pressed neatly against his licorice lips, head cocked slightly as he allowed his pale gaze to fall back on her once more. Though the youth was still an awkward mess he was becoming more confident in himself as the days passed. He was no longer the same wolf who had arrived in Relic Lore many months ago; skittish and frightened of everything.
By the scent that hung so closely around the strange female he was positive that she knew something about plants but XIX was curious to hear her response before asking another question. While his stuttering had nearly diminished Lachesis still preferred to keep his speech to a minimum – he was partial to observing and keeping his thoughts to himself than spilling stammering words off his tongue.

There was something strange in the boy's eyes when he looked up to see her, and answered her question. She couldn't quite make out what it was, and couldn't actually see that it was the result of an effort to avoid wrinkling his nose at her smell. Though he did quite well at keeping himself from looking disgusted, there was still a slight trace of something,that made Penny wondered if she looked silly, or had some plant in her fur, or something like that. A very subtle look that signaled that there wasn't something quite right about her, in the male's eyes. But she couldn't figure it out- after having sent a quick but fairly obvious glance over her coat to make sure she didn't look like some sort of musty, matted creature.

His retort came with a bit of sass, something which brightened up Penny's features considerably. Her conundrum was immediately forgotten- he didn't look as though something about her set him off any more, and instead he looked interested, curious, albeit with a touch of adolescent daring. She liked it. She wriggled her shoulders. "Greens, greens! Nothing but greens!" She said, an odd but very steady rhythm to her words which were accented by an ear flick here, a wink there. "Parsley, peppers, cabbages and celery asparagus and watercress and fiddleferns, lettuce-" Then she caught herself. Her little song was more like a rap than anything, and she smiled a guilty smile. She shrugged one shoulder. "Mostly just lookin' for edible herbs. I'm an omnivore. Or, really, an OMNOMNOMnivore. I'll eat just about anything. I'm Penny, who're you?"

omg i love penny so much XD
<b style="font-family:georgia; font-size:11px; color:#222218;">
While he waited for a response from the slender female he continued to watch her with quiet, observant eyes as she fidgeted, his brows furrowed slightly. There was something… odd about her, but in a good way – her peculiar behaviour was welcome into the silent bubble that engulfed him. He was positive his expression registered shock as she opened her mouth once more and sang a strange… song? Was it supposed to be a song? Perplexed, the boy couldn’t stop his head from falling to one side, a brow cocked as she stopped her… jingle and answered his previous question. Edible herbs? He knew plants were edible but the healer had never thought of actually eating them as food as he only used them medicinally. And what was this ‘omnomnomnivore’ she spoke of?
Blinking away his thoughts XIX returned his attention to Penny, a lopsided smile working its way onto his dark lips. <b style="font-family:georgia; font-size:11px; color:#222218;">“I’m Lachesis.” he introduced with a soft wag of his tail. <b style="font-family:georgia; font-size:11px; color:#222218;">“Eat just about anything? An omnomnomnivore doesn’t eat other wolves, do they?” The word felt silly stuttering off his tongue but the yearling had only said it to test it out for himself. It was refreshing to be in the company of another who wasn’t so dreadfully serious all the time. XIX had a stunted childhood, which caused him to grow up much faster than he would have liked – it wasn’t very often that the boy was able to embrace his inner pup.

While he didn't seem to appreciate her rap as much as she would've liked- of course, she would have preferred that he'd dropped a beat or something for her to jam along to but hoping for that was fairly useless- he didn't give her the same look others had given...That look that you got sometimes that meant the other wolf thought you were crazy. That look that made you feel like you'd just sprouted another head. He looked a bit confused, but not too turned off, disappointed, sketched or weirded out. Well, a bit, maybe. But he didn't leave.

Instead, he introduced himself, giving a name that Penny didn't quite catch the first time he said it...Which was the only time he said it. "Sorry, what? Lacheesis? Lach...How'd you say it?" She asked again, hoping he had some sort of nickname- or that maybe his name wasn't as hard to pronounce as she'd thought. She'd never heard a name like his before- granted, all the names within her family were all very simple so she'd fallen into a sort of comfort zone as far as referring to other wolves went.

She did, however, have an answer to his question and, before he could give her a restatement of his name- or a simpler version- she got right up in his grill, sniffing at his cheeks and ears. "Why? D'you figure you're tasty?" She asked, and the abruptly stopped. Something else caught her attention. Without a word, she trotted a few paces away, zig-zagging a bit until she came across the scent of something much more appealing than a wolf. "Wascilly wabbits! Them're tasty. Wanna hunt?" She asked, though she hadn't even stopped to consider if he was able to interpret what she was saying.

Lachesis was not fond of how incredibly awkward he was as it often deterred others from wanting to be around him. If he was capable of doing so he would’ve kicked himself in the rear – maybe it wasn’t Penny who was the weird one, maybe it was all him. Mentally groaning at himself the yearling returned his attention back to the dark female as she tasted his name, completely butchering it as she did so. A laugh rolled off his tongue at her failed attempt and he shrugged softly in response: <b style="font-family:georgia; font-size:11px; color:#222218;">“Lach works just fine – or Nineteen. That’s my other name.” Technically Nineteen was neither a birth name nor his real name – it was simply the name (or number) that he had been given by the two-legs on the Reserve. Lachesis had been the name that his mother had given him, and the name he preferred, but he was also just as fond as his assigned name.
Just quickly as she had gotten up in his business the green-eyed female pulled away, her attention focused on something else just as a question had fallen off her tongue. Blinking slowly the boy watched as she padded forward, her nostrils flaring as she caught onto the scent of something – or, ‘wascilly wabbits’. Huh. Nodding excitedly the boy stepped toward her, a thin smile pressed against his dark lips. <b style="font-family:georgia; font-size:11px; color:#222218;">“After you, Pennay-nay!” With his feeble attempt at some sort of nickname for the shadow-cloaked female the boy motioned forward with his muzzle as he took several steps closer to her. With winter approaching it would be wise to hunt whenever the opportunity arose as prey would soon become scarce.

"Nineteen?" Jeez, this guy had a rough go- he had one name that was hard to pronounce, and one that was, in Penny's opinion, sort of ridiculous. He'd offered for her to call him Lach, but it just didn't settle well with her. She tilted her head to the side and gave him a good long look, as though trying to sort out why he might be called Nineteen. She didn't like the fact that his name was a number- it just wasn't suitable for a wolf, in her opinion. Then again, Penny's taste in names was quite bad- she herself had been named after a plant, and she'd been told not so long ago that her name was weird and old-fashioned. That was, of course, until she'd been given the nickname Roy.

She couldn't come up with anything creative- so she decided to think on it, and make her mind up later about what she'd call him. There were rabbits to catch, so with his encouragement she grinned and took off, bounding with high steps. "We have to be veeeewwy quiet; we'ah huntin' wabbits." She said in a low, hushed whisper as she began to focus on her sense of smell. Her sense of humour wasn't something she could put on the back burner, so a grin stayed on her face while she sniffed the ground to catch their trail. Every now and again she'd flash a look to her partner, to see how he fared...Which was likely better than her- Penny was still trying to sort out some sort of nickname for him!
