Narime was busying herself with refilling the horribly thin stretched caches. She had been rationing the food from herself and trying to go out and find more for the rest of her pack. Her old hunting days with Willow Ridge came back to her like welcomed rainfall. Scouting around and searching for anything and everything to hunt. Most of the time deer was not on her menu for she had mostly gone out alone. So woodchucks, beaver, rabbit, frogs, anything she could find would end up somebodies snack or lunch.

For now she was alone, so the most Nari could hope to encounter were snowshoe hare or maybe animal carcasses encased in snow. Either would do of course to bring any source of food back to the pack. However even though she was alone today Nari was looking for deer. Any sign smell or hint of a herd would have her head up howling for her pack mates or whoever might be nearby to help her hunt. She wanted to fill at least two caches on deer meat for her hungry pups back at the den.

For now she had come across nothing.

Nothing...

No sign of mammal or bird alike on this overcast -15 degree weather day. It was almost silent enough to make her wonder if everything had died under the deep snow until a nuthatch sounded far to the northern end of the marsh within its cedar forest domain. She paused to pick her head up and look at the forest achingly. The deer will be bedded down in larger groups within the forest where the last bits of food will lay hidden for them. So either hunting within Drooping willows or Cedarwood forest would be the best bet. Even Sacred grove may have more tracks and deer sign than the marsh...Really Nari what were you thinking looking in the marsh of all places? It's far too open for them to be out here. She chided herself silently wishing to forget her forgetfulness.

Then again this kind of area plus the meadow itself would be a good area to find mice, voles, and rabbit or hare. She reminded herself softly while picking up her long legs and trotting high legged through the deep snow. This was one thing her tall amazon body had been perfectly built for. Deep dense snow. She pushed through it powerfully looking for a more windswept area to travel and expend less energy.

The snowshoe hare wasn't going to live to see the sunset. Of this Hati would make sure. His nose was nearly scraping the ground as he ran precisely on the rodent's trail, focusing so much on the meal that was promised to him that he didn't notice much else. His dark body was streamlined, the perfect picture of a predator on the chase. Hunger glinted in his eye, danger dripped from his jaws. This day was a day of death, and a day of life.

The River wolf broke through the tree line at top speed, crashing through the powdery snow as quietly as possible. The hare had led him to the marsh without a clue of the hungry beast that was following. Hati felt no doubt that soon it would be dead and in his empty belly. Things just were as they were, and this was meant to be.

The scent became stronger and Hati slowed to a stalk, crawling through the snow. Peering through some of the tall grass jutting up from the snow he could see the hare hopping about with glee, totally unaware of the danger lurking only twenty yards away. Hati found himself licking his lips in anticipation as the wind pulled the hare's scent towards him as if encouraging him to make the final move. He did.

Still in silence he crawled towards the creature using the grass and snow for camouflage as best he could. The marsh was not the best location for hunting, but this is where his prey had led him, and this is where it would all go down.

Her light blue gaze fell upon the landscape as something moved across the never ending whiteness of snow. The movement stopped and Nari found herself jogging closer to the place where she had seen movement. The hare had hunkered down hiding from Hati as well as the new silver huntress that jogged towards it. It wasn't until both wolves were about ten yards away on each side that the hare sprang up pelting for the treeline opposite of the wolves. Nari's muscles reacted instinctively pushing the she wolf forward after the moving object before she even knew what it was she was chasing. Her nose soon told her that it was a hare and it also told her something else.

That another pack wolf was very close by.

She cared naught for that information right now though. Even if the other wolf had seen the chase and was also after the same small meal. Her pack had hunted this land before this stranger wolf's pack that Nari did not recognize. So she didn't worry about a confrontation. Nari cared nothing for the other wolf who she didn't realize might be right behind her catching up to steal her meal away.

Instead the woman chased the hare only ever getting about four feet away before it took a sharp agile turn making her lose distance once more. Unlike the wolves the rabbit was light and could speed over the deep snow. Turns were very easy for the Lepus americana.

A growl uttered from her muzzle as the blood lust in her gaze flashed menacingly. The hare had turned again to the right this time making her have to make a wide turn chasing it.

Power played them colliding since we discussed it already, hope you don't mind! I can change that if you want. c:

Even as he lunged after the fleeing rabbit, another wolf burst from the growth of the marsh just ahead of him. She was a light gray female who appeared to be strong and healthy, not to mention quite a bit larger than himself. Hati grimaced and glared but did not falter, intent on getting that speeding morsel for himself even if he had to take this girl down. His legs stretched as far as they would go and he propelled himself forward powerfully, the natural speed he possessed giving him a great advantage. The wolf didn't even seem to notice his presence as he raced behind her.

His focus was alternately on the wolf and on the hare, and when the latter turned sharply Hati was unable to react at all. The female, however, swerved widely, providing a broad area for Hati to slam into. He tumbled through the snow, inhaling some of the powdery flakes, anger boiling his blood. Once he regained his footing on the snow and ice he turned to face the stranger with a death glare, daggers shooting from his one eye. The black river wolf's lips curled fiercely and his body screamed dominance and anger.

Who did this lady think she was, going after his hare? A snort that sounded more like a house cat's hiss was the best he could utter to portray his annoyance with her. It didn't matter that he had been the one to knock them over, but only that she had taken his attention off what could have been filling empty stomach right now.

Now you ask for a role for Hati under the fight request thread for our wolfies in the wolf central area.

It had happened while she was taking a wide turn following the hare's tracks. The wolf that had also been chasing their tiny white furry friend had sailed into her side unable to take the turn in time. The two wolves black and silver tumbled through the snow and dead reeds before coming to a stop. Narime was fuming with anger and blood lust still at the top of her agenda of things to take care of. Now she had no hare to settle those two overriding emotions. She quickly righted herself ignoring the tiny pain in her left front paw that told the hunter that she had stepped on it wrongly while falling. It would heal rather quickly as long as it wasn't a sprain.

Turning her frothing blue gaze onto the stranger who was already posturing Narime shot back a cold stare while looking over the stranger. He was of the same build as she, tall, lanky, made for speed and stamina, but the wolf was still shorter than she. They were both around the same bodily condition due to the winter's harshness.

Her gaze fell upon the scars that covered parts of this males body. He'd been through fights before and she didn't want to fight if there was no prize. It was then that the breeze shot up around them carrying an enticing smell upon it. A carcass, rather fresh by the scent, along with the smell of coyote was very close by. She could only hope that there was a good meal off of the carcass while trying to stare down the male. Nari had not taken a full dominance display yet. She would only do that if he continued the display of his own. The only offending display she gave to him was a stare that said "don't push it or you're dead..." It was a given rule that wolves didn't stare directly at each other unless they were actually trying to offend or scare another into submission. For a well run pack the stare worked quite well and avoided bloodshed most of the time. Nari had only used this a few times with her pups and even with Tokino when he was being uppity and arrogant. She hoped the stranger would get the message and simply leave.

The gray female didn't seem to appreciate his actions, judging by the deadly glares she sent his direction. Her sky blue eyes were blazing with the promise of aggression, but Hati ignored her stares and replied with his own. She obviously didn't get the fact that he wanted her to stand down; she didn't even move in retaliation, and that grated on his man-ego. All sense out the window, he would get payment for what she had done. Or what he believed she had done.

Hati narrowed his eye and brought his ebony head up higher, taking on a regal pose that no living creature could mistake. Taking one step forward to add to the effect, his lips curled upwards...but then something hit him. The strong odor of exposed meat danced with the breeze, cruelly teasing the river wolf's hunger. The aggression in his eye flickered out and his nose began quivering. Would not stuffing his face with something so delicious be much more rewarding than trying to look taller than this woman who was, quite obviously, the larger of the two? It had to be.

He threw one more vengeful glare in her direction before bounding away, following his nose towards a meal that would be ten times more satisfying than a meager hare. As long as that crazy lady didn't get it first, anyway. Just in case, Hati picked up speed and raced over the snow. The large moose carcass was like a scar in the snow, an obvious lump just begging for someone to come and eat it. Hati didn't slow down until he was nearly on top of the dead creature, whereupon he dug his paws into the snow for an effective halt.

She isn't trying to dominate this time. Hati can roll again if he wants to try to intimidate her away.

The scarred wolf gestured back gathering the woman's annoyance with a quick sweep of his tail flicking into the upward position. He doesn't seem phased at all... Am I doing something wrong? Do I still not look the part of an alpha? She was unnerved by his display wondering what the older more experienced male was thinking. She even took a step back in fear of a trick he might be planning. The she wolf growled low as his nose began twitching obviously scenting the same easy meal she had. The moose carcass, wherever it was, called to both the wolves in promise of a fuller meal than the tiny hare might have made. She tensed as the one eyed stranger began moving. She was alert watching for him to attack but instead saw the wolf lope away rather quickly.

It was what she had originally wanted, for the male to bug off. However a little too late Nari realized that he had started running in the direction the scent was coming from.

Like hell would Nari let a good meal go that could feed her pups if enough meat still held onto the carcass' bones. Quickly she followed suit chasing the male this time pissed off that she was so large and he so fast. She couldn't catch up in time before they both spotted the carcass. The stranger got to it first then came to a stop. Nari slowed herself to a stop leaving a good distance between she and the one eyed man. Her head was held low now watching him closely for any trick or movement that might mean he might attack.

"Why don't you make this easy and leave?" She asked once more while keeping a distance and watching the more experienced older male. Her head and tail were lowered into a neutral position once more though her eyes burned fiercely with determination.

She had followed Hati swiftly, giving him no time to snatch even a bite before he whirled around to face the gray she-wolf. His eye narrowed again and his black fur stood up straight, giving him a bulkier appearance. A growl would have been of great use but he was silenced, forced to assert himself without uttering a sound. His eye followed her closely as she stopped a good distance away, an action that gave the man courage to keep up his show of strength. She didn't want to fight.

A smirk danced in his expression; Hati thought back to his days as a loner when scuffles like this happened often, even daily sometimes. Once he had aged a few years, gaining strength and experience and learning to overcome his disabilities, he was most often the victor, though he knew losses well also. This stranger didn't seem to have half the fighting smarts he did, judging by her latest reactions, and if it did come to more than just a show of brawn then he was confident he would have the advantage. At this point however, he doubted she would make any moves.

Hoping to wrap up their unpleasant and annoying meeting, Hati sent one last aggressive glare in the female's direction before stepping around to the opposite side of the carcass, so that he could keep an eye on any tricks she might play, and began to dig into the meat. It was fresh and cold and, if he was able to lay full claim on it, would not be hard to add to Cut Rock River cache with a pack-mate's help once he had eaten his fill.

This post is so late. XD With a final roll he is defeated........

She was surprised when, without a sound, the male turned with a snarl upon his maw to glare at her. The thought that for the whole confrontation this male hadn't uttered any noise passed through her head quickly as she watched the older wolf lay claim to the carcass. It still had a decent amount of meat left upon it, and she wanted more than just a piece of it. The silver wolf had only fought for food once before with a wolf not of her own pack. That had been when she was pregnant and needed the food for her unborn pups. But I still have them to look after, and food is scarce now. she reasoned quietly knowing that if she had been alone without a pack or pups to look after she likely would have let the male take the meal for himself.

She gathered up the courage within the silence of the males fiery stare and let out a deep growl that forced its way straight from the depths of her belly and past her ebony lips. Then that gray and white muzzle twitched upward into a full snarl. She had given this male enough warnings to leave. Now it was time to act. Her pups came first, pack second, then herself third, and she needed this food more than this male did.

Besides he'd gotten a few good mouth-fulls of meat to sustain himself for a day or so. At least that was the way she saw it.

Gathering herself and stepping forward Narimé made a final stance. Her tail flipped upwards whipping from one side to the other in annoyance, her fur stood on end making the slender female look much larger than usual, and her head brought itself up to the alpha height she had been used to using for some time now.

Then she lunged.

Nari wasn't going to hurt him. It was a mock charge to see if he would run away on his own. She stopped short smacking her legs on and over the carcass then snarled a feral "THIS IS MINE! GO AWAY" while staring down the older wolf. If he continued any further this would end in a true fight which might be bad for both the canines.

"You've had your fill so leave now and I will not call my pack down upon you..." She let loose one last warning keeping her head in the higher position while staring down with stormy eyes upon the darker wolf.
