RE: "Kingsguard" - Dated 2/15 2014

He was beginning to feel a little bad about leaving his new home so frequently, even if it was in an effort to find food for them all. But he just needed to get away now and again, after Corinna's passing the pack had been immersed in sorrow, all the wolves walking around like shadows, mechanically going through their duties. Drestig felt for them and shared in their pain, but only to an extent, he hadn't truly known the matriarch, and while he understood the sadness of her death, he couldn't share in it the way her family could. The hunt a few days earlier had offered an exhilarating reprieve, but the adrenalin only lasted for so long, and the pack had slit back into its gloom soon after.

So the black boy had taken to scouting again, leaving the shadow of The Bend behind him under the pretext of searching for food. As so often before, his patrol had brought him far from the borders, and he was skirting the Sierra Hills when the first faint whiffs of Magnolia Glen reached his flaring nostrils. His lips instinctively curled back at the smell of foreign wolves, and he considered turning back, but the thought of tucking his tail made him sick; Run away... Run home to the EXEQUIES! He shook his head, ears hanging in shame; They lost their leader! Their mother and sister! Taken cruelly by nature's strong hands, as it so terribly often happened.

He was still debating his options, walking slowly along a well-used trail between the sienna rocks, when the strong scent hit him; like the slap across the muzzle of an inattentive pup by an impatient parent. He froze for a second, ears perked, snout lifted; It's a fresh trail! Without further ado, the black man set off along the track, head spinning with possibilities. He was so focused on his 'prey' that he didn't even notice how close his route brought him to the borders of Magnolia Glen, he was hoping that this hunt would bring him to the slain pray of this rival; And then it's just a matter of scaring it off!
