April 12th | Late afternoon/Early evening | Status: Hungry, Even-Tempered | Tag @Miccah

Her run in with the wolves of the Thicket had been short-lived, but as with most experiences, impressionable. For the first time in a long while, she had come across life that dwelt seemingly in confidence and comfort. Something other than the fodder that fluttered away at her approach. It was an aspect of the pack she had not seen much of in her travels, especially the familiarity that came with camaraderie. Since that that brief knowing touch between lead and subordinate, she wondered if that engagement was how she and her siblings had once conducted themselves... then wrote off the fanciful musing as foolish. Of course that was how they engaged each other. It was symbolic of their placement and comfort with each other, regardless of the standing one had over the other. Not to mention the companionship.

Certainly, that was how they had been from the time of their youth to their maturing years. The time in the wilds must have gotten to her after a while if she could doubt something as simple as that.

And though she found herself quite envious of that passing moment, the female could not outright say she had missed it. To miss it was to admit that she longed for that familiarity. And her mind was too fixed now on the necessity of other things to favor the thoughts of companionship. No, if there was a need for a pack, it was for the numbers they provided to allow for an easier, more successful hunt. Something that her belly sorely desired to take from. A wolf was not meant to scour the earth alone, nor were they meant to hunger on pathetic morsels of flesh. It did not take her long to form a plan on how to change this aspect of her reality.

Knowing now how to exit the hellish Thicket, it made for finding an entrance to it that much easier. And with purpose she marched on the dreaded trap of prickly flora. Fortunately she was of better mind at present to know where the edges of the borders resided. Stopping near the threshold, she raised her muzzle with a hoarse call, seeking the audience of the nameless dark male she had crossed days before.

The call had been a beckoning one, and Miccah immediately set out to answer it. He was coming to enjoy the duties as an alpha, and thiught he was doing rather well concerning the circumstances, though he wasn't a fool. He knew he still had much to learn. Maneuvering easily through the thicket, his large bulk now accustomed to the density of the undergrowth, Miccah grew closer to the subject of the call. Why did the voice sound so familiar? Moving quietly, he broke away from the thickets and his blue orbs landed on the nameless woman he had encountered days before. "You again," he rumbled in a neutral manner as he lifted his black banner. The woman had left a bad taste in his mouth, but everyone deserved a second chance. It would be cruel of him if he didn't provide her with one.

Miccah wondered if she was here to redeem herself, for their last encounter wasn't at all a pleasant one. "What brings you to my borders once more?" As he waited for her response, his thoughts turned to @Nina. Had she seen him working his ass off, trying to prove not only to her but to the rest of the pack as well that this was his rightful position? There were many obstacles in his way, but there was one in particular that frustrated him to no end. Nina didn't trust him. How did she expect this to work if their was no trust? He had served under her, so he had come to trust her. Would she able to give it back? He would earn her trust one way or another, by either actions or words, even if he died trying.

Beginnings, to the woman, were of no significance to her, as she had seen in her short years that an individual’s impressions could change overtime. Taking them by a glance was more her forte, assessing the in the moment, then again in the next should their paths cross again. It lessened the possibility of failed expectations, and made each encounter something new in one sense or another. It was simply how she perceived the world, although she did not expect the approaching male to know this upon heeding her call. Rather she regarded him as if her eyes were seeing once again for the first time; unabashed curiosity for the size of him, and how well he was able to navigate through the Thicket til again, she was not able to hear his approach.

It was near unnerving.

“…hunger,” she grumbled honestly and simply, near distracted as her eyes ventured upward from the pasterns to the broad span of his chest. Her muzzle tipped in thought as her brows creased with the unspoken; how on earth was he able to move without difficulty… without so much as a thorn clinging to his fur? Her nose crinkled somewhat. What was she doing wrong that put her under nature's wrath while in the Thicket? He was not much larger than her in terms of bulk. Taller yes, but even still...

Instead of pondering deeper, she digressed to the present, shaking her head stiffly once to again bring quiet to her mind. Gradually she raised her bi-colored eyes to rest on the bridge of his dark maw, then spoke. “…wanderers can’t hunt on their own…” her chords were strained even as she coughed to alleviate their ache. If she had had her way, she would have continued this preclusive encounter without so much as another word. “…hare… mouse…vole… they are not enough.” She continued, blinking passively, calmly. “…and…can’t starve like this.”

She had been highly hormonal lately, but it didn't surprise her as to why. It was hard going through pregnancy when her mate was no longer with them. She was trying to drive her way through the pain though and found her only comfort within Mirren and Bane, who she had found she had to periodically seek out for their comfort. She was concerned about what was going on in her pack. Things were different now that Miccah was leading. The Hervok woman didn't know what to make out of her new partner. They didn't know one another all that well and it caused major faults in their leading patterns. Hollow's rise to leadership had been much easier on the older woman, he had, after all, been with her since Secret Woodlands began its life. She hadn't been expecting much out of him, but their relationship had been so much more to her as time went by, and now she realized how big of a mistake she had made. She hadn't been expecting a call from her borders, and with an exhausted sigh, she made her way towards where the call was echoed, taking more time than it usually would due to her enlarged belly.

She didn't value wasting the time of others, but she did highly value the safety of the children growing inside of her belly. Never did she want anything to every happen to them that would be harmful to them, and that would include rushing into possible dangerous situations. She wouldn't have to worry though, for as soon as she arrived, it was quite obvious that Miccah was already on the scene, and as she lifted herself up to her full height, she pushed forward, her golden brown pelt catching the sunlight and making her fur look lighter than it was. ”What makes you think that just because you are starving that I would let you join my family,” she snapped the words out quickly before Miccah could get a word in, her single emerald eye glistening in anger. She paused quickly before she continued, ”Do you have anything to offer us? Because if you don't, I suggest you get off my borders and away from my land.” She didn't delay in the confrontation before her, her single emerald eye narrowed into a small slit.

At her words, he couldn't help but blink in shock. Had those words truly come out her maw? She had to be kidding! Anger rose within him then, but before he could say or do anything, Nina strolled into the scene. Regal as ever, it seemed like sparks bred from her anger danced in the air around them. Her message was clear, and if he would've been a lesser man, he would've been scared shitless. Glad that he was not the recipient of that anger, his blue gaze turned to the woman in front of them. His fur bristled and he moved a step closer in her direction. Unconciously, he found himself lifting himself higher. He was the King of these lands, and this woman would not tarnish what love he held for it with her foolishness. Nina had put her in her place, but now it was his turn.

"Your state of hunger means nothing to me," he rumbled dangerously. "You not only have insulted my home once, but now twice! First, by bullying one of my loyal subordinates, and now with your foolishness! Answer us. What exactly can you offer us, and maybe we won't kick you off our lands." Miccah waited for the woman's answer, his blue orbs shining with anger. If he hadn't been totally focused on the situation around him, the man would've noticed that he and his partner were actually working together. They were teaming up, trying to determine this woman's weaknesses and strengths.

Patiently, she waited for the assessment of the male, offering little more than a sigh in her wait. She had taken the time to come to the conclusion that indeed her need for numbers was crucial, as was the stability and shelter that came with it. But such thoughts remained turned inward in her silence. Occasionally her gradient gaze would shift beyond the male in front of her to the Thicket, believing her eyes had been right in catching the shift of movement.

And true to her survey, yet another figure came forth, bristled and angered for a reason the wanderer could not determine. Quietly she shifted her gaze to the male again, his face contoured in disbelief for what she assumed was her words. The both of them livid as if the autumn wolf had bared them an insult. Though she could not understand how her honesty would warrant such a reaction. Would they rather her lie? Passively, her gazes drifted between the two of them, listless and disinterested as her stomach audibly groaned in protest to its empty state.

A bit of life did reach her eyes, however, when accused of an ill interaction with the small Thicket female. “…bully…” she muttered, more so in thought than as an intended question for clarification. No. As she recalled, had done no such thing. It was the young girl that offered to escort her from their territory, and she had spoken no insult but to the grounds they made their home. Was he blind, she wondered. Or was this perhaps an attempt to paint the rogue in a darker light than need be? An ear twitched in thought as she softly inhaled the heated air between them. Then exhaled just as quietly as she formulated a reply for the both of them…

“…wrong,” she grumbled, breathing deeply she retuned her gaze to their assertive front. “…if she was in danger from me-“ she coughed soundly to shake loose her chords from atrophy “-the little one could ‘ave called for the pack. …her decision to lead me out… I asked.” Her tail curled nearest her ankles as she took another haggard breath. She could not recall the last instance she needed to speak at such length. It was paining. But enduring, she continued.

“…gave no insult to her… or your…-“ her gradient eyes flicked calmly to the thicket behind the pair. “-home. ‘Foolishness’ is for a hungry wolf to say they ‘ave strength when their body is weak. They can hunt when their nose is dull. They can find prey when their eyes have not seen anything beyond hare and small game in seasons.” Again, she coughed as both voice and words became noticeably clearer. It remained soft and calm as its depth was noticeable. “You insult me by calling me foolish,” her raspy voice deepened with her drawing conclusion. ”…as if you know of me.”

Her relaxed posture did not change even as the female spoke, not in respect but comfort to accommodate the weight baring down upon her joints. She had noticed the obvious rise in their posture, especially that of the male when joined by the female. And in turn her own muzzle tipped higher though her brows remained low and relaxed. True, she had not met their likeness before, but there was still pride alongside sense gathered from her years as a pack-orient wolf. She had no intention of being another’s foothold for self-elevation, especially when it was in her eyes not earned.

The hormonal woman glared at the girl in front of her, a single emerald eye squinting at the other girl. Remaining her calm, she listened, her anger boiling when Miccah spoke up. Immediately, Nina's lips curled back in irritation. Someone outside of the pack had been bothering her members? No one, had apparently thought this would have been valuable information for Nina, otherwise they would have told her. Gritting her teeth together, a displeased rumble settling in her chest as she locked her single eye on the woman here, who seemed to be talking in circles, even more than Nina usually did. Normally, Nina would be able to determine what someone was saying, but this girl...she was making no sense, and it started irritating Nina when she only had began to make sense when she started back talking the two of them. Raising herself to full height to a look that could have been as menacing as a bear, Nina growled harshly at the woman in front her.

She did not appreciate this woman's tone or the words of disrespect coming from her mouth. Taking a threatening step forward, she spoke, her voice dead calm and her single eye blazing in fury, ”I am confused as to why you think you can stand there and talk to my partner and I the way you are talking....as if we were not the alphas of the pack that you are trying to join...that you are standing on the borders that are ours. She paused for a moment, if possible, making herself even taller before continuing, ”I suggest you leave now, before we make you.” Her single emerald eye flashed dangerously at the loner in front of her. For the most part, Nina was an extremely composed, nice lady, but when it came to her family, she was dangerous and no one wanted to mess with her. Sloane was, after all, the wolf that had taught her how to fight.

His ears twitched as Miccah heard the rogue woman's words. Who was she to talk back to him? Did her parents not teach her to respect the one's higher than her? As an alpha and she a plain loner, he was definitely at a rank that she needed to learn to respect. Since the beginning, she had done everything wrong in his eyes. This was just another thing he could add to the list of her wrongs - disrespect. And not only did she disrespect him, but Nina as well. That's what really pissed him off. She was an alpha, automatically deserving respect from all loners that came to their borders. The Guardian in him screamed at him to show this woman in front of him her rightful place so she would never forget it. One paw lifted from the ground, as if to move forward, but what happened next immediately made him place it back down.

He watched as Nina moved forward, anger shining brightly in her one eye. Her words were harsh, but rightfully given. He couldn't have said it better even if he tried. Eager for the dark pelted woman to leave his lands, he stepped up besides Nina. He spoke no words, but his posture said it all. His blue orbs were dark with fury and he was raised to his full height, larger than either woman. A small growl rumbled deep in his chest as his hackles rose. He made it clear that this was her last warning. If she didn't heed to either of their commands, Miccah knew that neither of them would have a problem raining hell on her. He wasn't a threatening man in normal circumstances, but these were his lands and the dark woman was ruining it's peaceful air with her very presence.

As the female spoke, the wanderer was quick to place her attention upon her once again, but it was with little more than passive regard. Her gaze was listless as it rested upon her muzzle, her chest rising and falling with the tell-tale rhythm of calmly kept breathing. This was absurd, she noted silently as her ears bent forward to listen. The pair of ‘alphas’ had demanded she state what she could offer, and there she had with only truth to her words. She offered them truth, a gift the wanderer believed was lost on most of their kind, and opened her mouth to show them an error that they may not look upon her as the ‘bully’ they assumed her to be.

And this was the reward for her honesty? Raised lips and bristled fur brought on by their ignorance… even status as a wanderer did not make her so desperate to further endure their indignities based in arrogance.

The growl of the male beckoned an ear to turn and in time the muzzle of the tan wolf, til her eyes rested upon his dark maw. Still her gaze was listless, even as he stepped forward to stand beside his partner. In truth, she had never seen a share of power in this manner, and hoped that she would not be forced to endure its likeness again. Before her was not a front to be respected, but pitied for their display. The intimidation they sought to instill was lost upon the female as she hadn’t the respect in them to see their visage as a threat. Rather, she was staring at a pair of felines bristling at what they did not understand.

Sighing softly accompanied by a tired roll of her eyes, the woman turned as she was unable to endure the charade any longer and dismissed herself accordingly.

The woman finally took her leave. Ignoring the roll of her eyes, the alpha watched as the dark she wolf walked out of his thickets and finally out of his sight. Miccah let out a breath a relief as he finally allowed himself to relax. His tense shoulders drooped to their normal height and his fur smoothed down as he was once again at peace. Somewhat. Turning to his partner, he rolled his own eyes in annoyance and opened his maw. "Well...that was fun," he rumbled in a dry tone that suggested anything but. It really wasn't complicated, the act of joining a pack. First thing you had to show was respect, something that the woman had obviously not learned in her childhood. Ready to let go of this anger, the man suggested to Nina that they take their leave. He was positive that she didn't want to be in this area right now, for the woman had left a sour tasre in his mouth and undoubtedly hers as well.

As they headed back into the shadows of the thicket, he informed her of when he had first meant the dark pelted woman. It had been Aideen, their inspiring medic, that had met the woman at the edge of their lands. She was the subordinate that he had been takking about and he left nothing out as he spoke of the encounter. As the words left his maw, the pair quickly broke apart. Their wasn't much to say to each other, for they were still building a fragile partnership and Miccah didn't want to do anything that would break it. Heading in different directions, the leaders went on with their day.
