Patience was the key, the key to everything she knew. Whether it came to pass with the chilled water that fell from the heavens to the task she had at hand, chocolate milk color eyes focused on the slowly approaching creatures. They first had to get use to her fur covered legs entering their environment; they seemed immune to the disruption in their beautiful mirror of a home. These marine creatures were use to the liquid that stayed so still, not disturbing it with their movements. Slowly she finally slipped her last paw into the rippling water, all four legs submerged. The child had to refrain from shivering; any sudden movement would scare them away.

Their scales tickled along their newly acquainted pillars, their movements no longer expressed caution. Now was her time, her eyes on the larger silver devil that was positioned just to the left of her front paw. Pain staking slow movements caused her jaws to hover just a millimeter above the moving liquid, the fish oblivious to her actions. Again she looked at the large creature; he was well within his prime. A pick for any female fish to be proud of mating with but this year he would be unavailable, he would no longer know the joy of passing on his legacy.

Swift action came as her fangs entered the still mirror before any of the other fish could register what was going on, digging into the slimy flesh of her prize. To add to the affect of her catching the one she had spied just an hour ago her paws lifted out of the water to land back on solid, not shifting ground. The bull of a marine creature thrashing in her jaws, tearing his wounds oven further but in an effort to escape. Taking a few more steps back from the water the child slowly placed the fish on the damp patch of grass before closing her teeth along the gasping fish’s head, biting down swiftly to end his life without further agony. Shaking her body the spice colored girl rid an abundance of liquid from her coat, shivering at the unkind chill.

Growling, her stomach reminded her the reason she stood in such frigid moving waters for so long. With a hardy thud on the damp ground she landed on the growling part of her to dig into her prize, the salty flesh something she savored. The taste she enjoyed, though only reminded her of the day she was taught how to hunt in such a unique way for her small stature but then again it was because of this technique that she was still alive.

My muse plummeted because I had to write this in stints, so I'm sorry about the really crappy ending. I'll try to do better next time. <3

Love is weird.

Not the romantic male and female joining together; no, Hati had never known that type of love, nor was it likely he ever would. His love did not consist of soft feelings or gentle caresses, but it was just as strong, and just as fierce. His love was for his people, his pack, the land of Cut Rock River. His home. He was driven to care for it and protect it from all danger, and it scared him. For years his heart had been ice with room for no one but himself. He had been in perfect control of all aspects of his existence but that was no longer the case. Life wasn't so simple anymore.

It was for this reason that the black subordinate often left the territory to clear his head. All the nearby regions were mapped out in his mind; the west side of Relic Lore all became nearly as comfortable as the Cedarwood. Hati had decided to meander south that morning, wisely avoiding the soggy marsh that had become dangerous because of melting snow, and found himself facing the northernmost tip of the lagoon. It had become one of the most common of destinations for the wolf. Not only was the large body of water a welcome refreshment at the end of his journey there, it also offered a meal if he happened to be hungry.

That just so happened to be the case today. Hati loped to the shore of the lagoon and looked out over the crystal-like surface, ignoring the ugly black wolf that stared up at him with one golden eye. The fish were not very active at this time of day with the sun high in the sky but the river wolf thought to give it a try anyway. So, with patience that did not come easily, he waited for a fish to dare swim near his towering form. But none did as he wished and nearly an hour passed as the sun soaked through his dark pelt and brought on drowsiness. Slowly he succumbed to it, leaning forward ever so slightly until he stumbled into the water.

Splash! Hati leaped back from the lagoon, spitting icy water from his mouth and nose with loud gurgles, now fully awake and rather wet. I'm so stupid, he growled to himself, turning his back on the water. I can't even fish without making a fool out of myself. He tensed suddenly as the wind changed direction and carried to him a very welcome scent. Fish. And it's definitely not swimming happily in the lagoon. Having been put into a foul mood by the lack of food and his own pathetic state, Hati didn't hesitate to lope towards the mouth-watering odor. After a short run he saw a cinnamon-colored wolf tearing into the carcass of a very large fish. Hati grinned, and licked his chops before rushing forward.

He didn't stop until he stood directly across from the lady, the fish at his paws. His tail was high over his back and his head was thrust forward, obviously demanding possession of the creature between them.

The taste of metallic flavored salt, the blood of the fish was nothing compared o any warm blooded mammal she could have took her chances at but it was a flavor she enjoyed. The slick and unique flavor of the creature’s flesh was something she craved, he was truly a prize worth savoring. The only thing she was not too keen on was the tangy palate that the scales had; her tongue was not the happiest of things to skim over the shimmering skin that had fist caught her attention. He was not just silver though, his body was once the pride of his heritage. Black stripes down his side with a hint of pink, a delicacy. Freshwater salmon was always one of her favorites when it came to her choice of fish in the sea, so she enjoyed every bit.

Happiness filled the child as she ignored the world around her, which had proven easy due to the smallest of sounds were a songbird calling to another in hopes to become a mated pair. A large splash to her left was a simple and ignorable sound over her tearing of salty flesh. Her curled tail skimmed over her back as it moved in contentment, she never had a marine creature this big since she entered this strange territory. Even when her mother had taught her how to use this technique they mostly caught fish that were small and yellow and blue as well as the moss colored bass, and when they caught this delicacy he was never this large in size!

But everything is always so short lived in the life of a lone canine, silence and contentment invaded. A looming shadow and a scent finally came to her nostrils. The cinnamon child moved her pearl colored teeth from her prize, her warm chocolate gaze falling on a man that could easily be called a shadow. A quiet whine of surprise came from her lips as her abandoned her task of eating the prize she caught, her rust colored ears falling to her exotic shaped skull.

Her muzzle fell closer to her aquatic possession, finding his demand rather unwarranted. She thought of the only thing her mother had taught her. She was going to courteous; quickly her wet paws touched the scaled marine creature. Her teeth came to the middle of the carcass, snipping the creature in two and nosed the larger portion toward the stranger. Softly she gave a whine, unsure if it was alright to speak. What was she going to do, her body shook with unseen fear.

Hati “Taras” Roukan
Bless you Silvex, you have returned my Hati-muse to me! <3

Instilling fear in others wasn't something the wolf found pleasing, yet he had learned to use his rather frightful appearance to do so to his advantage. There was no denying the fear he saw in the small female's light chocolate eyes. But he also found determination, which was slightly irksome. Hati had left behind his days of picking fights; now all he wanted was a peaceful takeover of this maddeningly delicious-smelling salmon that lay shredded at his feet.

To convey such, Hati's lips curled away from each other to reveal rows of glistening white, incredibly sharp teeth that promised bloodshed if they were put into action. He doubted he would go to that extent with this petite red wolf that proudly guarded her kill, but he also wasn't above displaying his apparent power as a clear message: bug off! He took one more intimidating step forward, certain that the movement would scare the girl off, but she seemed to miss his meaning. Hati stared, slightly dumbfounded, as she totally ignored him and lowered her jaws to continue enjoying her meal. It was fortunate for her that he was too shocked to react in anger, for by the time he was able to move she had revealed her intentions.

Hati's lips came back together and his proud banner slowly lowered as she nudged the larger portion of the pink salmon towards him. His eye moved back and forth between her cinnamon face and the offered food. Once it sunk in that she had willingly given to him what she rightfully owned the man felt rather abashed. It wasn't a common emotion, but this woman's kind actions had done it for him. He lowered his eye and assumed a relaxed position, the stiff hairs along his shoulders flattening against his back again. He stared at the meat for a second, frowning. Then, in a swift movement he exchanged his piece of the gigantic fish for hers, leaving the lady with the biggest chunk as a peace offering. Then he offered a toothy smile and wagged his tail. Hati felt honestly happy to have found such a kind person to snitch his meal off of.

With no more formality Hati scarfed up his part of the salmon, carefully eating around the smallest bones that could catch in his throat. In no time nothing remained but bones and stiff scales; even the birds would find it a worthless scavenge. Satisfied to finally have a full stomach Hati lumbered over the edge of the lagoon and lapped up the cold liquid to wash down the bits of pink flesh that stuck in his teeth and throat. In the back of his mind he noticed that the lagoon lacked its usual luster, but he thought nothing of it or the dark clouds that gathered in the sky.

As she started to severe the creatures spine she witnesses out of the corner of her dark lashes a register a pristine set of ivories, a quiver took a hold of her spine causing her curled tail to wiggle slightly. Quickly she nosed the larger piece toward the large shadow, she was trying to be a good girl. A child that would have made her mother proud by simple sharing the little food she had even though she had not eaten for a few days until now. It was obvious that she had been alone for some time now; though she sported a plush line of fur her ribs were still present along her side.

A sudden though came to her absent mind, her mother had once told her about her strangely wound tail. It looked as if she was being dominant when all she wanted to do was show submission and if she could she would have lowered it between her thighs. The child lowered her head once more, another whimper of her attempt to show she was not a dominant canine.

Success! She her gentle optics watched as he moved closer only to take the smaller portion and left the large part of the fish to her, her eyes snapping to the motion behind him that cause her own tail to quickly moved against her rump. The male moved away and she could not help but feel a small sensation of relief, she did not have to give up all of her prize. Though she was happy to give some of her meal to the aggressive man, she still felt unsure as her teeth closed around the piece she moved away from her petite frame. Slowly she brought it closer still watching the shadow that was a few feet away from her, he could easily come closer and grab this piece too if he wanted.

As soon as her toes were able to wiggle over the freshwater salmon’s smooth scales she realized it was alright, pealing scales and flakes off of the carcass. The salted life liquid was divine, tearing into the flash was even better. The cinnamon angel finished off everything but the miniscule bones and the head of the creature, her milk chocolate eyes finally moved to the large shadow over the clouded mirror.

She gave a whine-like bark directed at him before her slowly moved her frame off of the grass covered earth, her paws bringing her closer with a soft bounce in her step. The danger was gone until a loud crash of thunder escaped from the heavens; the clouds grew an unattractive shade of gray. Her body shot to the larger male, her ears pinned to her skull as she pushed her nose to his side not caring about the repercussions of the touch. A yelp with a series of whines came from her ebony lips, it was easy to say she was terrified and that the loud thunder was her fear.

Hati “Taras” Roukan
I did this one on my iPod so it's meh

The red female seemed to have moved on from her initial fear of Hati, which made the wolf feel slightly less brutish. She ate her portion of the salmon all the while ignoring his dominating presence. She never said a word, and though the silence made them both a bit hesitant it was also simpler to not have to bother trying to communicate. Hati smiled just barely as he drank. Indeed, he enjoyed this young woman's company.

The black wolf's ears flicked back to acknowledge the girl's yip, the meaning of which he didn't quite understand but deemed unimportant in comparison to the quenching of his thirst. He drank deeply and uninterrupted until the crash of thunder overhead, an ear-splitting crack accompanied by lightning flashing brightly over the lagoon, jerked him out of his calm mood and abruptly brought him to full alertness. The skies had darkened considerably from the last time he'd checked; it was heavy with black clouds that had seemingly rolled in from nowhere. Hati stared up at the impending storm, shocked by the sudden turn around in the weather. He'd best get back to the-

The dark wolf jumped, surprised, as he felt a dainty nose pressed against his flank. He could smell fear again but this time he was not the cause. For a second time the river wolf glanced up at the clouds and then back down at the small female at his side.

With a sigh he resigned himself to protecting the girl for the duration of the freak storm...in which case he could not simply return to his home. He turned and touched her rusty ear with his nose and then trotted in the opposite direction of the lagoon. A few steps away he stopped and swiveled his head around as if to say, you coming? Then, certain she would understand him, he moved into a lope towards the nearest trees he could see. As he ran the clouds opened up and dumped freezing rain upon the Lore and the two fleeing wolves.

She had not noticed the darkening heavens until it was too late to see that the fiery god in the sky was no longer visible, the only thing alerting its presence to the spice colored child was the sound of a strike in a bowling alley. Her toes found the soft earth easy to maneuver against, allowing her miniscule frame to accelerate to the shadow’s side in no time at all. Her cold nose pressing against his flank before wiggling her way up to his shoulder, she felt him moved. A jump of surprise to her movement, her sudden contact with a nameless stranger.

A flash followed by another clash of the heavens and she gave a high picture yelp followed by three whining sounds, she was both blinded and terrified. She watched as his singular sun colored eye looked down at her, her head wiggling against him to show that she had no intent to leave his side for the duration of this.. this.. freak storm.

He resigned himself, his body relaxing from his initial surprise and she could not help but whine once more. His nose was cold against her rust colored ear, he never spoke. He started to move and her body seemed frozen in place as another loud boom drenched her with fear, he looked behind him as he increased the distance between them and she finally regained control of her legs again. She gave a fear filled yip to signal she was following, her toes wiggling as they removed the ice crystals of fright. He moved away again and her paws connected with the earth, hard. Moving quickly to catch up with his movements, realizing the direction the stranger had set. Acceleration finally seemed to be filled with need and want, the heavens opening their flood gates to instantly soak her to the marrow in her bones.

He reached the timbers first but she was right behind him, a deliberate shake of her fur caused her to fluff up like a Pomeranian as she quickly moved to turn into a canine fuzzy ball. As if to hide from the waterfall, her tail trembled as it remained in its permanent curl. When would this end?"speech"

Hati “Taras” Roukan

In some ways it was amusing, the number of disasters he had faced since finally claiming a home in comparison to those he had experienced beforehand. The very moment he had found acceptance into a pack the place was wrecked and Darkwater Rapids was forced to relocate across the mountain. Since then it had only gotten worse, and now here he was stranded by the lagoon in a relatively intense storm and forced into the position of protector. At least she was a pretty lady.

She was also an extremely frightened and obviously helpless lady. She seemed unable to work her muscles for a moment as he trotted away towards the trees, but when he glanced back a third time she was right on his tail, sticking close and shaking in fear. As the clouds suddenly dumped their contents down on them she looked rather pathetic, dripping wet and unsure. Hati grinned encouragingly at her, certain he looked much the same, and disappeared into the trees with the girl not far behind.

Once they were safe beneath the thick evergreens Hati slowed and turned around to look over the small red female. She shook suddenly, sending droplets of water flying in all directions and leaving her fur puffing out and doubling the girl's apparent size. Hati found the sight laughable but didn't show it, instead copying her actions and shaking the water from his own pelt. Then he crept underneath a pine and lay down, scooting over to invite the girl to join him. It was still cold and they would need to dry each other to avoid getting sick. It wouldn't be so bad for him, as Lachesis could easily mix together some nasty herbs to make the sickness go away, but for the loner getting ill was no joke.
